No surprise at all - a late friend was very good friends with him when he was at Coventry. He said football was just a job to him, he had no interest in it’, they would go out and there would be no football talk “Paul had clocked”.

Played with a guy that went on to play at Hampshire league level that was that way inclined too. He had zero interest in the game, except playing it, and he happened to be decent! He didn’t even support anyone, I could never get my head around it.

Fair play to Telfer, assuming you don’t end up with a job in the media or coaching I imagine life could get quite boring once you’ve retired and you’re still in your thirties.

Jack Charlton said something similar about him and his brother Bobby. Jack said that football didn’t have a grip on him yet Bobby was the sort who, if he was driving past a local game of football and a corner was being taken had to stop and see what the outcome was.

I’m in the Bobby camp.

Same as a few above, someone I have worked with who is an ex-pro (ex-skate briefly too) but never supported anyone or had any interest in the wider game, just a job to him. He has some great stories about his playing days though.

Jimmy Bullard
David Batty
Andy Carroll
David Bentley
Ricardo Fuller

One of my cousin's now wife, dated Ricardo Fuller for a few years and apparently he didn't watch football or talk about it.

Andy Carroll has said he has no interest in football and doesn't watch games at all and he once said he didn't even know what position Newcastle United were in the table before a game.

Think it was Keegan who said about Batty hating football.

David Bentley packed it in well before his time and opened a nightclub in Spain or something.

Not 100% sure on Bullard but I think he doesn't like it either.

I've heard it said about Luke Shaw as well from a mate who knows Clyne.

As in, he liked football as a fan but didn't actually like being a football player.

Apparently under Poch saints would do double training sessions and Shaw would go home, allegedly still with his parents (?), would order a pizza for lunch and go back in and never socialised with any of the players. Would never go on nights out or anything, he just stayed at home playing computer games.

No idea how much of that is true but that's what I've heard about him.

Footballers aren't fans.

It's their job, it would be the equivalent of us working a 9-5, then living and breathing it 24x7 outside of work too.

Not saying it's wrong, but I saw Luke Shaw out a few times with Rickie Lambert down at Club 4

Boring with umpteen millions stashed away for a rainy day? I'd love to be that bored!

We’ve got supporters not interested in football after 87 mins, they fuck off and leave regardless of the score.

You mean the disrupting ones who turn up in their seats 5-10 minutes after kick off (late from the bar), leave there seats 5-10 minutes before halftime, then are late back after half time and leave 5-10 minutes from the end ? I've always wondered if they get discounted tickets ?

Jimmy Bullard is a very good actor if he doesn't like football!
