benjii Posted 25 January, 2009 Share Posted 25 January, 2009 The media do still care about us. Pretty pointless dig though - implies JP not given a fair crack when most people think he was well past his sell by date.

david in sweden Posted 25 January, 2009 Share Posted 25 January, 2009 Dave Jones wasn't sacked by Saints I quite respected DJ, but to be FAIR - he would have due for the chop anytime as we were bordering on the drop zone when he was " relieved of his duties" and given gardening leave. I think we continued to pay him for some months afterwards before he finally left - and Hoddle had proven himself. At any rate, the pressure of being a Prem. manager fighting relegation and also having that court case hanging over him all that time must have been more than anyone could be expected to handle. We would surely have gone down that season had he stayed in charge.
FloridaMarlin Posted 25 January, 2009 Share Posted 25 January, 2009 Lowe sued The Times for the article in which Martin Samuel described his treatment of Jones as 'shabby.' He won his case, and that one word - "shabby" cost The Times £250,000. The Times argued that the comment made in a column was an honestly-held opinion, made without malice. Lowe's briefs were able to argue that Lowe's treatment was Jones was not "shabby." Here's the link to the piece the Times had to run as part of the verdict. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article583108.ece Incidentally, which charity did he give the £250,000 damages to? Yes, it was hard for him but of all the things Lowe has done wrong (and they are many) the myth that Jones was mis-treated really irks. I think Lowe did very well with the handling of that one. I have to agree, Lowe did do well on the Jones situation, as sorry as I felt for Dave. I can say that as someone who wants him gone very badly now.
