benjii Posted June 22 Posted June 22 I've just got a train from Hamburg to Berlin. It was 30 minutes late and cost EUR 100. So their trains suck too. Eat that, Fritz.
AlexLaw76 Posted June 22 Posted June 22 God. Thought European trains would take about 12 mins to reach the destination, and fluff you up on the way, all for about €1
whelk Posted June 22 Posted June 22 I caught a train from Soton to Manchester and back and arrived to the minute both ways. Cost a fortune mind but toilets worked as well.Â

Mixedkebab Posted June 22 Posted June 22 The old German efficiency bollocks isn’t true anymore at least on public transport, and the western cities are mostly dirty gaffs often dodgy as fuck at night around central zones. While this isn’t unusual worldwide, it’s very different to Germany about 15 years ago. I’d exclude Bavaria and Berlin from this, they still feel pretty German. 2
Turkish Posted June 23 Posted June 23 (edited) My boss cannot believe it costs me 280 quid to go from Harrogate to London, he lives in Milan and it's twice as far to Rome and costs him 60 euros. Edited Wednesday at 19:25 by Turkish 1

Recently my mate and his mate flew to Istanbul, stayed over, and went to a gig, all for less than I paid for a return (1st class admittedly) to Leeds. £250 ISH iirc. 1

Whitey Grandad Posted June 23 Posted June 23 Not quite as extreme but last week I went into Athens from Piraeus on the train for €1.20 each way. 2

Picard Posted June 24 Posted June 24 Those who are members don't get ads I suppose but I'm getting an ad for a German company that makes model trains on this page. 1 2

whelk Posted June 24 Posted June 24 I used to fly out each week to Brussels from Soton. We’d fly first class which amounted to being up the front of the plane with curtain pulled to separate and served first - for treble the price! No benefit of lounge at Soton either. Although was a global chemical company who at the time didn’t seem to give a shit and would fly people out and back same day just to see a presentation.Â

Gloucester Saint Posted Wednesday at 12:15 Posted Wednesday at 12:15 (edited) You’d be very unlucky to find worse than CrossCountry in Germany. Their non-dom ownership, leadership are parasites, they barely run trains at all, let alone on time nor in conditions which are safe or sanitary. All for the highest fares in Europe. Add the infamous RMT into the mix, and it’s a clusterfuck. Sack them off, renationalise and put the ballot minimum for strike action across the membership up to 60% of eligible members. Stealing a living, astonishing Heidi Alexander sees improvements in them. All they did was get worse even before the overtime ban (and no business should rely on as much of that as they do). Edited Wednesday at 13:13 by Gloucester Saint 1
