Thanks for reminding me. I'm off to the local pub in the PO10 area where I go regularly to watch Saints away games when they are on. Most banter with the regulars is fine, and in fact there's even been a bit of mutual gloom and humour, but once this twat was telling me with a patronising laugh that they had better crowds blah blah, so I need to remind myself of the figures..

PS: Did Pompey 2012 ever pay those charities back?

For some time I was like you. Moved away from Southampton at a young age but had caught the Saints bug. I didn't particularly hate the Pompey scum until..... 1984!!

What a game. What a result. And what about the Pompey fans. My hatred of Pompey stems from that day. 

My wife has a friend, sorry acquaintance who comes from Pompey. Doesn't go to the matches but certainly talks the talk. NYSaint just meet some of them. or go to a  match at their shithole and you will understand the animosity .

The hatred is on both sides. I work with people who are blue few fans and locals who have no interest in football at all. Even the non fans hate anything to do with Southampton. One guy will only go to an Ikea in London as he can't bear to bring himself to the SO zone.

They’re only good if/when you win. The last three league meetings have been draws but all of them felt like defeats - late equalisers from Pompey in both games in 2011-12, and the really shit 0-0 this season. 

The police/authorities are doing their best to spoil the occasion for the fans with over policing and Sunday 1200 kickoff time. This one won’t be any fun unless we beat them, and I’m not convinced this squad has got it in them. I’m more nervous than excited for it. I think Tonda will be more concerned with not losing than winning, and that won’t suit us.

It's true that the last few matches between Pompey and the Saints have been tight, but I hope your recent home win will boost the players' confidence!

As for what's happening off the pitch, it's always complicated with the local authorities. They're on edge and often very strict, so be careful if you're travelling to the game!

We need to get a second consecutive win to build momentum.

In the first derby game we hoofed it long a lot on the first half, showing a lack of control and composure. He'll want is to be a lot better than that, so it might not mean dropping Stewart. Stewart needs to be handled carefully. This game is massive, but we want him scoring goals for the next four months.
