They are no different to anyone else or any other place. The reality is they are probably closer to being one of the smaller clubs in the football league by support than one of the bigger clubs. Thanks for reminding me. I'm off to the local pub in the PO10 area where I go regularly to watch Saints away games when they are on. Most banter with the regulars is fine, and in fact there's even been a bit of mutual gloom and humour, but once this twat was telling me with a patronising laugh that they had better crowds blah blah, so I need to remind myself of the figures.. PS: Did Pompey 2012 ever pay those charities back?

Baseball's OK. Football is what is actually worth dreaming about... I just prefer excitement to hatred. For some time I was like you. Moved away from Southampton at a young age but had caught the Saints bug. I didn't particularly hate the Pompey scum until..... 1984!! What a game. What a result. And what about the Pompey fans. My hatred of Pompey stems from that day. My wife has a friend, sorry acquaintance who comes from Pompey. Doesn't go to the matches but certainly talks the talk. NYSaint just meet some of them. or go to a match at their shithole and you will understand the animosity .

My personal vote... determined rivalry yes, disgust and loathing... really?! not needed. I just want a pulsating game - and yes, a memorable saints victory. The hatred is on both sides. I work with people who are blue few fans and locals who have no interest in football at all. Even the non fans hate anything to do with Southampton. One guy will only go to an Ikea in London as he can't bear to bring himself to the SO zone.

ChristopheVAFC Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago The derby is a match that many people love, combining passion, fervour and rivality. People talk about this type of match for weeks beforehand, and the closer the match gets, the more the tension rises. In your country, England, football is very important, and I understand your impatience! I wish you a good match, my friends, and as we say in France, a derby isn't played, it's won! With you !! COYS! 2

It also leads me to think he will revert to 3 centre backs. Two big mistakes if it pans out that way in my opinion. If he does that he’s a fucking idiot. Lose like that and I hope he’s looking for a new job on Monday.

They’re only good if/when you win. The last three league meetings have been draws but all of them felt like defeats - late equalisers from Pompey in both games in 2011-12, and the really shit 0-0 this season. The police/authorities are doing their best to spoil the occasion for the fans with over policing and Sunday 1200 kickoff time. This one won’t be any fun unless we beat them, and I’m not convinced this squad has got it in them. I’m more nervous than excited for it. I think Tonda will be more concerned with not losing than winning, and that won’t suit us. Edited 1 hour ago by Jack 1

It's true that the last few matches between Pompey and the Saints have been tight, but I hope your recent home win will boost the players' confidence! As for what's happening off the pitch, it's always complicated with the local authorities. They're on edge and often very strict, so be careful if you're travelling to the game! We need to get a second consecutive win to build momentum. I wish you all the best!

The waft of piss and bullshit drifting from NottarfKrap. It’s a ground, barely. A ramshackle home built on clay (hence the North Stand issues), on six fingered hands, salt in the air rusting away at the transfer war chest. THIS IS PORTSMOUTH FOOTBALL CLUB, OR A VERSION OF IT. Very few bother to write about us… Too inconsequential…too shit…toothless. Administrations. Deserved relegation. Empty promises to schools and charities. BUT LIKE AN UNFLUSHABLE TURD, WE’RE STILL HERE. Listen to the bullshit. Will someone listen? One voice:…”F*** off Downing…you’re f***ing shit”… One city. A song of defiance whistling around the rapidly emptying stands, carried by father, brothers, mothers, sisters…sometimes the same people…who never stopped believing, except when Redmond smashed the fourth in. Factless Allen, blowing smoke up the arse of fans. Floodlights cutting out due to another unpaid bill. Debt pressing down on every blade of grass. They come from up the road…our better-looking neighbours. The ones who know their history, not simpletons regurgitating Portsmyths. SOUTHAMPTON FOOTBALL CLUB, PRIDE OF THE SOUTH But this place doesn’t interest anyone, except chancers and fake owners. This club has been in the lower divisions, mostly. We’ve lifted trophies thanks to recruiting elite players stationed in the area for military service and more recently cheating…But we’ve dropped back where we belong. Every single time. This badge means something - especially to the Ottoman Empire (I said we know our history). It means ‘progress’. It means ‘illumination’…both seem inappropriate… It means that when SFC comes to town, we can’t hide from it…we are shit and when we go 0-4 down we f*** off home. STILL HERE…STILL FIGHTING THE TAXMAN…STILL THE BLUE FEW. #Skates #Fishf***ers #FOP 3

In the first derby game we hoofed it long a lot on the first half, showing a lack of control and composure. He'll want is to be a lot better than that, so it might not mean dropping Stewart. Stewart needs to be handled carefully. This game is massive, but we want him scoring goals for the next four months. Edited 46 minutes ago by Chez
