Alas, I'm almost convinced there has to be a negative angle as to why he hasn't signed a new contract yet.

Surely, the obvious (and perfect) timing to have signed a new contract was immediately after the FA 'pardon'...? Sticking two fingers up to the EFL and 'marching on' regardless...

But, no... We have Spors deploying the textbook "there's no rush" management deflection technique.

Maybe I'm just a cynical old fool, and a new contract signing is in the offing but, until then, I'll still continue to be sceptical as to why it's not already done and dusted. I simply can't see a reason to arbitrarily delay matters....

I'm hoping it's done during the international break.

I wouldn't blame him for wanting to get back to Germany, especially after this year's horrors. His family are there, and a big club will be calling soon.

However I also think he has a laser focus on achieving promotion this year. He won't want anything to detract from that.

I have resolved to enjoy the ride while he's here.

I wouldn't be that surprised if he does his bit to get us promoted (make up for last year), and then decides to go for a fresh start. Would be gutting though - if he can take us up into the prem then I reckon he can really build something over a few years.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves. 3 points this weekend, and then promotion are the goals... Anything to do with Tonda longer term is tomorrow's problem.

Does anyone else have this nagging feeling that Tonda has been lined up for a bigish job in Germany when his contract runs out in the summer?

His family all still over there and he's clearly a very very good manager.

Someone earlier in the thread suggested otherwise re wife and child.

Maybe I'm a naive old fool, but I'm not surprised by the delay and remain unconcerned with the absence of a formal agreement.

Contracts can take ages to negotiate and sign off. They require multiple contract lawyers to assess, amendments to be discussed and agreed which adds time even when both parties are keen to get it over the line.

Before the FA decision, I'd be surprised if either party had the desire to sit down and agree the finer details while the possibility of Tonda being banned was still there. I suspect that there was a gentleman's agreement to agree a new contract once the FA decision were known, but it will take time to formally agree.

Of course, there are dangers with this approach (see Ross Stewart), but for now I remain confident that a deal will be signed.

There is no loyalty in these years. You see Stewart is an example.

He had a contract, he stayed during his contract, we clearly did not want him in the premier league...hence why we left it till the last min to sign him up...

Little loyalty shown by the club.....

You don’t half come out with some old bollocks, a shire horse of pony. A young inexperienced manager is going to get promoted to the richest, biggest, most high profile league in the world and say, “nah, not for me, I need a fresh start”. 😂

Probably worth pointing out that our ‘best manager since Koeman’ does actually need to deliver promotion before any Bundesliga giants try and tear him away from us. Finishing the season 5th-8th behind a couple of teams like Stoke and West Brom ain’t gonna cut it.
