OldNick Posted 1 February, 2009 Share Posted 1 February, 2009 not the most cultured or skillful of players but he added a bite and desire that has been missing for so long.Given an extended run in the side and he will become a fans hero. Swansea were not allowed to play fancy dan stuff and he was also a minder for some of our lads.MY MotM
SFC Forever Posted 1 February, 2009 Share Posted 1 February, 2009 Given a run he could actually improve a bit and be even better at both stopping opposition attacks and minding the kids.

Chez Posted 1 February, 2009 Share Posted 1 February, 2009 if he plays like that every week he will be suspended for half the season. it pains me to say to say it but do we have any other options?
Whitey Grandad Posted 1 February, 2009 Share Posted 1 February, 2009 probably could have seen red though....... Not even booked! That shows the benefit of experience. What exactly happened with that incident on the touchline in the second half? From what I saw he went flying into the other fellow who drop-charged him with an elbow to the chest. The assistant flagged immediately for a foul to us and from then on it was all handbags.
OldNick Posted 1 February, 2009 Author Share Posted 1 February, 2009 He has to be careful, but at least the oppostion know they are not going to have the freedom of the pitch.AS needs some of that to go to the next level.
Andy_Porter Posted 1 February, 2009 Share Posted 1 February, 2009 I thought Wotton and Gillett done the dirty work really well yesterday, certainly something we've lacked when we've played Schneiderlin and Surman together in the middle.

Jackie@home Posted 1 February, 2009 Share Posted 1 February, 2009 Martinez was whinging that he should have been sent off, and that we were generally too physical - must have been doing something right, then. Still, both of their goals came from runs from midfield, which our extra bite from Wotton and Gillet was supposed to help stamp out. Still, I think he could prove useful in our current predicament, even though he's not much of a footballer.
This Charming Man Posted 1 February, 2009 Share Posted 1 February, 2009 We can't play Gillet and Wotton together, I don't think either of them passed to a Saints player all afternoon. Most of the tackles Gillet made were trying to win the ball back after he'd given it away, Wotton was just as bad as Gillet at times. By all means play one alongside someone who is capable of passing to a team mate but both together - no thanks.

From what I saw he went flying into the other fellow who drop-charged him with an elbow to the chest. The assistant flagged immediately for a foul to us and from then on it was all handbags. from the Itchen it looked like a bad foul to me, easily worth a yellow in its right never mind combined with all the other fouls he comitted. Martinez was right to be upset as it was an uncalled for challenge. He was behind the player and lunged at him wraping both legs around the guy. How on earth we got a free kick from it I will never know. I thought Wotton had a very good game and his constant kicking inspired the other Saints players to do the same. Tactically Wotte got it right as Wotton was in the right place time after time in the first half. However I would say that Wotton is so slow and that is why he is fouling all the time. He simply can't get close enough or keep uo so has to hack them.

um pahars Posted 1 February, 2009 Share Posted 1 February, 2009 bloody good news about time a opposition manager moaned about us rather than saying we play good football BUT still lost Absolutely. I'd much rather have Martinez leaving being pssed off, as opposed to the legendary Owelumo, amongst many others, telling us we were great (and BTW thanks for the three points). Looking back, it's cringeable how some of those defeats were portrayed on the OS and it's sister outlet The Daily Echo.

spyinthesky Posted 1 February, 2009 Share Posted 1 February, 2009 David Good shouts on all bar Hughie Fisher. To my mind he was a far more creative player. What about Terry Hurlock instead? George Kirby (a centre forward)was the dirtiest player I have ever seen in a Saints shirt. Wouldnt have lasted 5 mins in todays football. A real gent off the field tho
Charlie Wayman Posted 1 February, 2009 Share Posted 1 February, 2009 I loved the bit where he bit back at the Swansea bench in the second half after his sliding crunching tackle was being criticised by their coaches who gave him the evil eye. fareham saint phil Posted 1 February, 2009 Share Posted 1 February, 2009 I want to see passion and fight from our players, and yesterday we saw that from Wotton, ok hes not the fastest or most skillful but give me passion anyday, and i couldn't give a **** what the swansea manager had to say as he needs to look at his own players ie their no 7 who was trying to get our lot booked etc. We need more fight to get us out the ****
Bailey Posted 1 February, 2009 Share Posted 1 February, 2009 I loved the bit where he bit back at the Swansea bench in the second half after his sliding crunching tackle was being criticised by their coaches who gave him the evil eye. Ha yeh me too! Wotton had some very choice words for Martinez et al. "**** off!" and "Sit down you *****!" were just a couple of insults I heard! Good to see there is some fight and passion in the side, and if Wotton can help get that out the rest of the team then that can only be a good thing. I think both Wotton and Euell may play a key role in our bid to stay in the division to be honest.
paulwantsapint Posted 1 February, 2009 Share Posted 1 February, 2009 If Wotton is p1ssing off opposition good just hope that he has more of a brain than David Prutton who prior to pointing out that he didn't like linesman against Arsenal was mega p1ssing off opposition by hitting everybody not on his team sounds like PW is doing the same
eurosaint Posted 1 February, 2009 Share Posted 1 February, 2009 IMHO Wotton was a breath of fresh air yesterday, no question ! We have been crying out for somebody to lead by example all season. To those who demean his technical ability and passing skills I would suggest that we have a number of others in the squad who can provide this but precious few who can arouse the passion, encourage team spirit and keep us going in times of adversity! We have lacked this balance of youth and experience throughout the (so called) 'total football' period and I, for one, am delighted to see it happen !! Ps. I want Euell back in the team as well ! supaimpy_returns Posted 1 February, 2009 Share Posted 1 February, 2009 [quote Ps. I want Euell back in the team as well ! yes I thought when Euell came on he actually was great at covering for Drew and putting his foot in much like Wotton, but the true inspiration was Saga, who by his workrate actually dragged the others by embrassing them, Wotton was stood in the centre circle after we conceded actually geeing up the team , first time i've seen someone geeing the team up, who noticed that Wotte was passing mesaages out to the team and they seemed to take notice. Not sure on Lallana, thought we just lacked pace, especially as DM is less mobile than a telegraph pole! it was hard to tell at the end that we only had 10 men
sala4uk Posted 1 February, 2009 Share Posted 1 February, 2009 Did anyone notice the spat between Martinez and Wotton? After Wotton's challenge, I think Martinez said something to Wotton, who then said something along the lines of "f**k off you *****, go on sit down, sit down you f*cking ****, **** off" This was all in front of the ref and the 4th official, is he not liable to get booked for something like that? Tomobz Posted 1 February, 2009 Share Posted 1 February, 2009 I personally think Wotton was class yesterday and was exactly what we needed and have been lacking all season! It was a great attitude for this league and also the gritty determination all fans want to see. Hats off to you Wotton, you were brilliant yesterday! rooney Posted 2 February, 2009 Share Posted 2 February, 2009 The best example of passion, comittment and leadership I have seen from a player at St Mary's for many a while. Right form the huddle he was encouraging and cajoling our players and many times he was hurling his body in and winning the ball, even when he was on the ground. This is what championship football is all about if we wish to get out of this mess.
sotonist Posted 2 February, 2009 Share Posted 2 February, 2009 he seemed to be the one most effected by the fact that no one appear to know where Lallana was playing or what Lallana was meant to be doing. when have we ever known what lalla was supposed to be doing. all i ever see him succeed in doing is run the ball back to our own half and make a pass back. so much hype, so little substance.
