Mole Posted 3 February, 2009 Share Posted 3 February, 2009 As TSW has trouble coping on matchdays feel free to post on my unused forum when this site goes down. http://foreversaints.1talk.net/forever-saints-f1/
saint_stevo Posted 3 February, 2009 Share Posted 3 February, 2009 sponsored by the BNP? I wanna know why TSW struggles when we have all paid for a super duper server and Eurostar tunnel bandwidth and it still crashes
benjii Posted 3 February, 2009 Share Posted 3 February, 2009 Do I have to pay you £5 or are you seriously saying that an adequate forum can be made for free?

Mole Posted 3 February, 2009 Author Share Posted 3 February, 2009 Do I have to pay you £5 or are you seriously saying that an adequate forum can be made for free? Dunno really, it can cope with a modest number of hits. When TSF went down it coped ok though.

Ponty Posted 3 February, 2009 Share Posted 3 February, 2009 That was the scenario on the old TSF wasn't it and it didn't solve the problem. TBH I'm as f***ed off that the forum's not sorted despite charging members as anyone on here and it's not just because I paid a fiver too. I was under the impression that a paid hosting service would sort all these problems out yet I regularly seem to be apologising for the site going down, which is embarrassing TBH. I don't wish to hark on (honest!) but TSW has been fine for 6 months and has only gone down hill after a recent switch to another host....hence the question..."what was wrong with the previous host (of TSW, not TSF)"? Wiltshire Saint Posted 3 February, 2009 Share Posted 3 February, 2009 A very simple solution would be to up the membership fee to £10. I'm happy to back that plan right now.

Fan The Flames Posted 3 February, 2009 Share Posted 3 February, 2009 Bring back Keith. Ponty is useless. I don't buy this anyone but Ponty call, I say no to change until its proved the new man can do better. Better the devil you know, out of the frying pan and into fire and all that. $$$ Posted 3 February, 2009 Share Posted 3 February, 2009 The obvious answer is that a web forum is not designed for the usage it will get during a match. The server is basically getting DDOS'ed by many people endlessly hitting refresh to read five word posts, lots of which describe the same event. I did point this out to boj when he was attempting to justify the subscription and server move. Considering the vast majority of a match thread is unlikely to be read again afterwards, it would make far more sense to get people to use a chat room instead during the match. There are various ways to embed/link it within the forum software so opening up the match thread could open up the chat room instead.

Mr saint Posted 3 February, 2009 Share Posted 3 February, 2009 Other teams have better forums. For that reason, and that reason alone I support Man Utd now (or Chelsea/Liverpool should one of those go on to win the title). Bye bye Saints.
saint_stevo Posted 3 February, 2009 Share Posted 3 February, 2009 i have cancelled my subscription, i was woo'ed originally, but what is the point now? Like paying to have access to Sky TV or something, then repeatedly getting denied access through no fault of our own. Must be against some act or something.
