Might interest some to know that Lallana wasn't even going to be on the bench for the Watford game.

Not a bad move in my opinion as although it's clear the boy has talent, he looks as though he could do with a rest.

As for my XI, I would go with the following . . .

------------------ Davis ------------------

James ----- Saeijs ----- Perry ----- Surman

McLaggon ---- Wotton ---- Euell ---- Skacel

-------- Saganowski --- McGoldrick --------

Subs: Bialkowski, Lancashire/Liptak, Schneiderlin, Gillett/Lallana and BWP

Our weakest link is the right side of the field. McLaggon for me is not going to do enough to protect James, neither is Surman who as Adrian says, is to lightweight, plus he is a left footer.

This side of the field is and has been our major problem all season.

Enough of the ridiculously lightweight midfield please. Surman is an appalling central midfielder, at least he has been every time I've seen him there. I've seen him look far, far better at left midfield, left back and right midfield.

James Size Perry Molyneux

Surman Wotton Scheiderlin Skacel

subs - bart, lancashire, bwp, gillett, lallana

I like this side. Decent wide players and some strength and experience up front. Given recent form, I would take Lallana off the bench and replace him with McClaggon. Mind you, I doubt even that side would get a result at Ashton Gate.

Stick 3 at the back and 5 in the middle of the park. It would allow us to have Surman in a free roll to try and get the best out of him, and allow us to plat Rudi wide left.

Surman played his best football from the right for us imo. Aslong as we've got someone on the left like Skacel providing the width it should be fine.

Schneiderlin at right back?? novel, not sure that it would work but you certainly have flair.

We absolutely have to change something at the back coz we're conceding far too many goals. I think Surman has always done a decent job there, and with Skacel ahead of him, they can interchange and we will be fairly solid. I think we have to make a change on the right side and try and find a solid pairing at right back and right midfield. When you think back to the 'glory days' we had such solid wide players - Bridge and Marsden on the left, Dodd and Telfer or Telfer and Fernandes on the right. We need to get back to that.

I'm not sure that Wotte rates Morgan very highly,he'll play Gillett instead.

I dont go in for slating players but I dont know what gillett brings to the team he is so small and his passing has been awful lately I have seen him have 1 or 2 good games he had a blinder against Brum in the cup but other than that I have been less than impressed

His tackling and covering V Swansea looked very good, but his passing was a bit off towards the end.

Neither do I, but there seems to be some magnetism that leads Wotte to pick him. It's clear to all that we need more steel in midfield and Morgan doesn't seem to be fully fit.

There is something strange about Morgan's transfer, perhaps we owe Strasbourg more money if he plays more games soon but perhaps Arsenal lent us the money for him or something and don't want him damaged. Just can't understand the "recovering from involvement with his country" bit. It was a

2 day shakedown with a kick about against PSG reserves on the 2nd day. He played 45 minutes but it wasn't very disputed. He didn't look bad apparently and seemed to have no particular problems. He wasn't retained in the U21 squad for Tuesday's friendly in Tunisia though.

Lallana has been poor recently, so maybe leave him out.

McGoldrick if he's in one of his more hardworking moods could be useful down the right and make us a little more solid, than if BWP or McGlaggon played there.

Euell in the hole, as he's good at making runs into the box.

But then we have a centre back at right back, an unknown quantity at centre back, a left winger at left back, and a player who won't stick on the left or get any crosses in at left midfield. not to mention a bad striker at right wing.

Life is all about opinions, if you do not like my line up fair enough, but don't preach to me and others when you have Surman playing on the right side of midfield.

Size looks as if he is comfortable on the ball. I agree the centre half is an unknown quantity, Skacel has played left back plenty of times, and if Surman wont play to the plan take the **** off.BWP was not a bad striker when he scored against Reading away was he.

Surman has played his best football for us from the right of midfield.

He may well have done in your opinion. My point was Adrian was ripping my side about playing players in the wrong positions, the last time i looked Surman's right foot is for standing on. The idea for wide players is to give width, to get to the bye-line, not always cut inside cramping up the midfield, forcing balls into the box from 30 yards out. FWIW i like Surman as a player, on the natural side for him ie; the Left side.

Agree with starting XI but Lancashire needs some loan experience in League 2 or BSP. God knows what Liptak is like but he can't be worse than Lancashire surely? Good to see McG hasn't featured again! Wonder if we could persaude someone like MK Dons or Leeds to take BWP on loan for the rest of season so we never have to endure him again?

Does anyone really think a fat, 40 year old MLT playing off Saga wouldn't improve most of these line-ups?

Agreed, MLT would improve this lot even having not trained for 8 years! I don't like Euell but he can head a ball on and hold it up and we're desperate. McG doesn't run, doesn't use the upper body strength he has, is weak in the air and isn't the greatest finisher. In fact, Colin Clarke as a middle-aged man would be probably be more effective than McG, even Mick Channon would be! Clarke has to be the worst stand-in goalkeeper I've ever seen though.

Obviously it isn't ideal with Surman on the right but when you have four wingers who are all left footed (Surman, Skacel, Holmes and Smith) and only a youngster like McLaggon on the right it's logical that one of the left footed players shifts to the right. Surman is the only one of our midfielders who has shown he can play on the right so makes sense to play him there.

Andy i understand what you are saying, but Drew's first instinct is to pull the ball onto his left foot which naturally means he cuts inside. At least on the left he can gamble to get by the full back knowing he has a half decent chance of getting the ball in the box.I agree our right side wide options are limited, which to me is bizarre, considering what you say we have many options on the left, Normally it's the other way around.

Anyway nice talking tactics with you mate:cool:

Euell * I remember the Sheff Utd game last season, he was superb down the wing, I do appreciate he is left footed but I feel his experiance would offer James more protection.
