ladysaint Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 not much seems to be happening so just reflecting on the season, the worst I can remember in a long time, but to brighten things up nominate your best away trip this season. I would like to nominate Doncaster, new ground for me (not that I like new grounds) nice away pub, friendly fans who were very welcoming, a lovely sunny day and three points. hypochondriac Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Derby for me. We played fantastically that day and was nice to get one over on them. Chants of "On the pitch!" were classic.
Papa Shango Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 The comeback at Preston is my favourite game from this season. Absolute mental scenes at the end! Charlton and Reading were good days out. Derby was a great performance as well. Thought we might actually do something special after that game lol . Ipswich and Watford were fun too. Great atmosphere at those.
rocknrollman no2 Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Reading for me for two reasons. Firstly we won when i expected us to lose and secondly a load of us went to the game in a limo, drinking beer all the way up there. Happy days. saint_bert Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Watford for me. Was a great day for us boys, great atmosphere and JPS with THAT freekick
Andy_Porter Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Best day out was probably Charlton. Best game was easily Derby, really thought we would push on and be in and around the playoffs after that game. Didn't take long to realise it was just a one off though. saints_is_the_south Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Only been to 2, Forest will make it 3. Both (Watford & Charlton) involved copious amounts of lager, Watford probably edges it because the atmosphere was better & the fact we scored 2 goals helped! Definatly doing a lot more next season. Roo Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 It seems strange to have quite a few decent memories from away games in such an ultimately unsuccessful season - and I missed both Preston and Ipswich! Derby, Donny, Reading, Barnsley (and even Norwich and Sheff Utd for the character shown on cold tuesday nights) will all stick in the mind for quite some time. Can't really choose between Derby and Reading, both fantastic performances. After Derby I fell into the trap of believing the kids could actually get promotion then after Reading I thought we'd at least pull clear of the bottom. It's just so frustrating that we could never back up the away results and performances with the same at home.
Sussex Saint Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Derby was the best for me. (Worst was that freezing cold night at Selhurst Park).

voteforpedro Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Best was Reading, closely followed by Derby. Two very entertaining games, good atmosphere and crazy celebrations. Worst for me was Swansea by far.
Mr saint Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Best was Reading, closely followed by Derby. Two very entertaining games, good atmosphere and crazy celebrations. Worst for me was Swansea by far. Can't argue with that. Only been to a couple of away games this season and but Swansea was the one I was most looking forward to. Was very disappointed....awful performance, terrible atmosphere, very over-zealous police, cold weather, not allowed to town for a drink and I felt ill. Chorlton Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Donny was a great day out. really welcoming pub & locals and a pretty easy win. Who would have thought what was to come and how far ahead of us they would be after that day? But Derby away was a fantastic performance in great weather with every body just the right shade of drunk .
Saints foreva Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Reading away, I went up there for a day out. I didn't expect anything, infact I would have treated a draw as a win. We played great stuff that day and were very unlucky to only win 2-1. 3,800 odd Saints fans made a great atmosphere imo.
Michelle Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Doncaster, easily. Good company, plenty of booze, some interesting pubs, pizzas (anyone for pepperoni?), a scenic walk to the ground, and most importantly, three points.

Dicko Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 I really enjoyed Burnley Arrived early, got ratted in the city centre, and Burnley fans were surprisingly good fun Really pleased it was raining, as there was less chance of the horrible stand going up in smoke like Bradford's, and after a shocking 1st half display, really enjoyed our comeback We lost 3-2, but I still had a cracking day
krissyboy31 Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 I've just realised that this is the first season that I haven't been to an away game. I've been to two. Donny and Wolves. Pretty easy to work out what the best and the worst was from those.
AlfredKo Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Anyone fancy Watford being one of the best away game this season? Saejs's brace was enough for Saints to grap a late draw there which is brillant. Also this was the first direct free-kick we scored since the departure of Gareth Bale. The worst must be sheffield Wednesday away and Bristol City away.
Footballfan Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Bad season for me only done 3 this season Docaster,Ipswich and Watford so all good results, looking forward to Forest to keep the good run going. Even if we go down just think of the new grounds we can go to, only done 53 so a long way to go yet.
Arizona Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 I have been to one away day. Reading. I have a ticket to the Forest game. If someone offered me a 5-0 defeat in that game, I'd take it TBH, because at least it would mean we're still in business in 2 weeks. How sad is that... LGTL Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Reading. A really good mate is a Reading fan so we stayed at his and went out after. Needless to say we had a good few days...
oxfordshire_saint Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Had to be Reading for me, I believe they were unbeaten at home at that point, we took a shedload of fans, outsung and outplayed them. Brilliant day out. That said, distance-wise, it was closer than a home match for me!
Neil Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Swansea purely for the weekender, Mumbles etc. Game was ****e. Reading for the day out and result, although we did take a few numbnuts up there. Honourable mention to Donny, but sadly wasn't on the beer that day.

Mole Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Doncaster, easily. Good company, plenty of booze, some interesting pubs, pizzas (anyone for pepperoni?), a scenic walk to the ground, and most importantly, three points. I'm glad someone enjoyed it. Having parked at the Doncaster football car park it then transpired there was just one "hungry horse" type pub. Leaves the pub and where the **** is the ground? "just follow the lake". FFS about 1 mile later after trudging round some mucky old gravel pit you arrive at the stadium where there's no pubs. What a crap away day. Kaiser Soze Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Preston, easily. Stayed in the pub for the first 40 minutes so missed us being 2-0 down, got in for free, then saw one of Saints best ever comebacks to win 3-2, with a last minute winner from DMG. Legged it on the pitch and got dragged out with seconds left. Drove to Blackpool and got hammered all night. Amazing weekend.
saints triumph Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Has to be reading. Went with my son and daughter and nearly 4000 other fans. Didn't expect anything other than a defeat, as they were unbeaten at home, So 3 points and a performance that more than deserved it. Oh and the sun shined. Cabrone Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Only been to 2 aways this season but both were excellent (Reading + Watford). Reading wins because of the result but superb support at both. Any club that can bring that level of support in such a dire season doesn't deserve to go under.
stkev7 Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Best... Definitely Preston for me, to comeback like that when we were dead and buried was amazing. The complete mayhem when McGoldrick struck the winner was phenomenal. What added to it was that it was my last game before I buggered off overseas for over 4 months (I missed a lot of rubbish in between) and also we spent the weekend on the ale in Blackpool before and after the game... happy days! My next game back after that was Ipswich so I done well there. Worst... Swansea - Total OB and idiot overkill not making it enjoyable day to have a good drink in town. Birmingham - never enjoy going to St Andrews. Sheff Wednesday - Complete ineptitude of the 'team'.

Bailey Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Reading away for me. Purely because I went to the game with no expectations at all. To come away with all three points, and to totally play Reading off the park was fantastic.
rick1976.4.38 Posted 23 April, 2009 Share Posted 23 April, 2009 reading was best this season, especially the look on the pompey scum when we went infront, derby was a close second, just for beating them nearly made up for play off defeat.qpr was good atmosphere from saints but i nearly got thrown out.worst had to be wolves and sheff wed for the team not showing up.watford for jps goal from the free kick, saints fans were mental, looking forward to forest,we have to make this the best of the lot.its down to us,COYR
saintchrissy Posted 23 April, 2009 Share Posted 23 April, 2009 Preston by far, good time in the pub beforehand, quick whiz round the football musuem, dragged husband up for match (not saints fan but working on it) spent the whole first half moaning about football went absolutley mental when DMG scored the winner. Brilliant!

Mister Neil Posted 23 April, 2009 Share Posted 23 April, 2009 Reading - best game I've seen this season I think Preston - I remember sitting next to Mrs Neil and at half time the optimists around us were singing "We're gonna win 3 - 2" and I said to her 'yeah, right! of course they are' in the most sarcastic way possible. How big that grin was on my face at full time can't be measured - it almost hurt. Derby - For a short while after I thought the season would turn out differently to what I had initially expected (after the shenanigans of all the Dutch nonsense). Mind you, Derby weren't at the races that day!
samoakley Posted 23 April, 2009 Share Posted 23 April, 2009 Reading away was quailty since we won and played good and i went with a reading fan Coventry away was a good laugh untill we played and i met my girlfriend on the coach up there and the coach journey was a laugh there and back. Worse was QPR away **** day got chucked out of a pub when they found out i was a away supporter and the game was ****.

saintdownunder Posted 23 April, 2009 Share Posted 23 April, 2009 Preston I came over from Australia for 3 games Coventry (H) Preston (A) Bristol (H) I spent the weekend in Blackpool with the wife a (Gooner) and another couple (2 hammer`s fans) the other bloke and i caught the train to Preston for one of the greatest days of my life. I try and come over every 2 years so to be there singing, jumping up and down and giving it to the Preston support as we showed some bottle in the second half was blinding, then to walk out of the ground to see all the sad Preston fans gutted was to good to be true. I just floated all the way back to the train

modern matron Posted 23 April, 2009 Share Posted 23 April, 2009 Reading for me too.
