Current Players Should Donate a Months Wages

Who else feels the current group of players - certainly the higher earners - should donate at least a months wages to Save Our Saints?

BWP, Euell, Davis, Saga, Skacel, Rasiak, Dyer, Surman and Co should do something to return the support the fans have given them over the whole sorry season - and particularly the last couple of weeks!

Even a weeks wages would go a long way to keeping the club afloat long enough to find a buyer - and save the club!

Maybe some of them should agree to mutually terminate their lucrative contracts on Tuesday 5th May - with no pay-off - leaving them free to find another club and give SFC a chance of survival!

And what about ex-players! How far would a week or a months wages from Walcott, Baird, Beattie, Bridge or Bale go giving the club a lifeline!?!

SFC helped to make them what they are - shouldn't they now do what they can to try and save SFC for its supporters!

It would take just one of them to start the ball rolling!

Totally agree, and highlighted by Saints fans affected by the recession donating extra money they can ill afford to fund players who earn vastly more but put in little effort for the club.

The supply and demand arguements of Jimmy Hill etc may well be tested this summer when revenue streams dry up due to the economic climate.

A couple of season's ago there was a charity campaign to get prem footballers to donate a weeks wage to nurses.

didnt get a great response from Chelsea, despite some of them being on 120k a week !!!!

Like the above post said, modern day footballers.

Although, TBF, the Coles did donate £500K to Comic Relief (or maybe Children in Need).

I heard from Jeff Stelling (we talk every week) that Davis and Euell had deferred there salaries until the end of the season. They wanted the younger players to get money that they were relying on. Better than nothing - but something tells me it won't catch on with other senior pros.

Skacel could have moved several times to play in the Bundesliga or at Ipswich but the salary he was on here was too good, to warrant the drop in wages. Doubt he'll now sacrifice that wage unfortunately.

I asked a few of the players after the game on Saturday if any of them were going to be deferring their wages to help the club out until a buyer was found. None really answered apart from Surman who said they hadn't been asked to by the administrator. You'd have thought as a Saints fan he might have offered rather than have to be asked to see the club through until a buyer is found.

is this just a rumour or fact? The response above from Surman suggests that no players had forgone their wages.

I've said it before and I will say it again there is no chance of me donating any money to pay the likes of Rudi Skacel.

To be fair though, if I was working for a company that went into administration, I wouldn't expect to have to donate a month of my wages. They are under contract like everyone else. I know they earn a hell of a lot, but it is all relative as they probably still have big mortgages etc to pay. Not saying they would miss the money, just giving an alternative opinion.

and if your company went into adminstration would the customers be expected to make charitable donatations to pay your wages?

The players are in a privaledged position and no matter how big the house is at £10k a week, they CAN afford to miss a few weeks pay to ensure the cash cows continues to live.

Up in the posh seats this question was asked. Apparently 7 first team players are deferring their wages. Can't remember all their names but it included Davis, Euell and Skacel - the last being a such a pleasant shock it wiped the other names from my memory.

If true, and I have no reason not to believe you, then that is good news ( not quite as good as not taking the wages but still a significant help) I would have preferred them to go public on this - as I know a number of people who havent donated on the basis that their hard earned cash will go straight to the players to spunk the money away.

Would also be good if BWP and wayne thomas were on the list, two players who we are lead to believe are on high wages, and havent delivered.
