Sturrock

From Wikipedia....

Strachan resigned in March 2004 (to take a break from football) and was replaced by Paul Sturrock, who had been in the process of guiding Plymouth Argyle to their second promotion in three seasons. However, rumours of player dissatisfaction and personal problems dogged Sturrock, and he was replaced just five months later by reserve team coach Steve Wigley. Wigley's tenure proved disastrous, with Southampton slipping

We know about the personal problems, but what is the low down on the 'rumours of player disatisfaction'? Does anyone know who the ringleaders were, who said what to whom?

Wikipedia can be edited by anyone in the world. Its abit like treating every comment on this site as fact.

Really? I didn't understand the concept.... ;)

It's not as if this is false though, is it? There were rumours at the time to the same effect.

There was the Blackburn game where we were losing and in the players opinion it was down to Gluggys tactics so at half time allegedly they decided to ignore him and we went on to win.I was at the game but it was televised and apparently it showed one of the players having a go at him.

The trouble was that the players were used to a big name manager like Strachan and had expected the return of Glenn Hoddle.

The sudden decision to appoint a manager from the lower leagues and with no Premier experience started the scepticism before Sturrock walked through the door.

Had we originally appointed Hoddle, as had been planned since WGS announced that he was leaving, we would probably have remained in the Premier to this day.

The decision to appoint Sturrock was a bizzare one, and was a result of a protest led by a vocal minority of misguided saints fans.

I used to watch the academy on Saturday mornings in those days

I remember we were playing Liverpool at SMS on Sunday (his first match I think), and all the 1st team were there.

Luggy came out of the canteen with 2 double cheeseburgers and a KK chunky, he then stuffed his face with them whilst watching training

It all looked very unprofessional

We won that match 2-0.

Beattie, dodd and le saux decided that he wasn't good enough to manage them and virtually picked the team and formation.......thank god they did because that fat sack of **** wasn't good enough IMO.

He seems a little over hyped on here by some and I really don't know why.

Were those three not part of the squad that found themselves relegated though?

Fact is that Lowe picked his man, didn't support him, continued to follow the cheap route and the rest is history.

It was the televised 12.45pm kick off match on a Saturday. Andy D'Urso infamously booked the same player twice but failed to send him off. But yeah we were winning 1-0 at half time.

We all thought it was Beattie at first, mainly because he always struuted around looking petulant, I think. Then Sturrocjk gave a quote making it clear he got on OK with Beattie and so everybody decided it must be Dodd.

It was another one of those things where we never really knew, but some rumours were repeated so often that, as you can see above, people now accept them as fact. Nobody here actually knows what happened, it's just rumour.
