Signing a six year contract at Saints means you've agreed to stay for a minimum of two years rather a minimum of one. Not sure which part of that Virgil van Thyck didn't understand. Personally I'd have no problem with release fees in future star player contracts (Neymar had one FFS) - as long as the fee was ambitiously high and it wasn't kept secret from the fans.

Koeman came down to value for money. Is he a good manager? Yes. Is he one of the best in the world that merits a salary to match? I'd say no. And he also wasn't interested in bringing younger players through. He wanted short term results to boost his own stock. Not necessarily a good thing for us. If we may not have got the right men since, it means the Koeman fall out looks the wrong decision in context, but as a standalone decision I'm not sure it was wrong. Koeman? Pah. IMO Pochettino was the best manager we've had in the past decade - by a country mile. Now if we could have kept him...

I know what you mean about Boufal, and he's very frustrating to watch. But he's never had a proper run in the side. Maybe in training he doesn't look like he deserves one, but you don't know until you try. Seeing as we invested nearly 20 million in him, I'd be inclined to put an arm around his shoulder, tell him he's starting the next four games (instead of Tadic would be my preference), and that this is his big chance. If he fails, or if he's never given that chance, then it's another pretty damning indictment of our Black Box marquee signings. Over the years... Osvaldo, Ramirez, Boufal... only Gabbi looks like he's going to be worth the money we paid. We got more success from players we spent a bit less on - Pelle, Mane etc... which just goes to show that money isn't everything. SO maybe one of the hidden gems you've been told about will come up trumps.
