  1. Pellegrino’s comments certainly would have encouraged the Liverpool supporters who want VVD. He’s not cup tied in Europe, which probably makes him an attractive prospect. Also the “Liverpool are repairing relations with Southampton” stories did the rounds yesterday. It does all seem like track is being laid in the media for a January sale. I can’t see why the club would make so much noise about not selling him in the summer, only to let him go to them in January.
  2. I’ll play devil’s advocate and say that his defensive, have our attackers mark defenders while we’re attacking style might be OK for an away game against Liverpool, if we’re content with going for a goalless draw. It is, of course completely inappropriate when playing Burnley at home.
  3. Watford are considering reporting Everton for tapping up Silva, and Allardyce withdrew his interest in coaching the dugout pioneers when it became clear he was not their first choice: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/next-everton-manager-sam-allardyce-11527326
  4. Clasie was willing to take a pay cut to go back to Feyenoord on loan this summer but they weren’t interested: https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/4920556/jordy-clasie-southampton-feyenoord-transfer-news/
  5. I'm not sure how I'd react if Saints attempted to pull off something similar to what Everton are doing right now with Watford. It seems classless to me. I wonder how long before the Everton supporters turn up on the Watford forums talking about dugouts and all the other pointless crap that they apparently created, thereby making them a huge club.
  6. Palace, Huddersfield, Brighton. I think that the long slog of the PL season, lack of spending power in January and inadequate depth to replace injured starters will be too much for the promoted teams.
  7. Alex Crook reckons that we’re after Jovetic: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/goal-shy-southampton-eye-stevan-11484110
  8. They invented dugouts and many other important things, and now Everton have Diego Simeone at the top of their managerial wish list, according to Sky... http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11671/11117327/diego-simeone-is-everton-owner-farhad-moshiris-top-target-among-four-potential-new-managers Hurry up Les sneak in and gazump them before it’s too late...
  9. He was back and starting for the game against W.Ham. He was part of the reason they ahem hammered them.
  10. I’ve posted this already somewhere else on here but Pellegrino’s defence-first unadventurous style might produce a 0-0 result against one or two of the big clubs that we’re about to face. Who knows? We’ve struggled to score against teams that parked the bus like Swansea or Burnley. It’s probably a pipe dream but against a team with attacking intentions perhaps we’ll hit them on the break. It makes me a little sad that it has come to this.
  11. As unhappy as I am with Pellegrino, this just about sums it up for me.
  12. I suppose there’s a chance that Pellegrino’s defence-first, unadventurous style might produce a few 0-0 draws during the difficult upcoming fixtures.
  13. No. Burnt his bridges and was found out at Everton. Tadic would be off if Koeman returned. Some might see that as a positive.
  14. It sounds to me from what you are saying that the club could have handled the change in managers better. Remember when Cortese fired Adkins, but had his replacement already in hand? The club held all the cards last summer, they could have found a suitable replacement, signed him up and then fired Puel. Instead, they fired him, failed to secure their preferred options and we ended up with Pellegrino. We’ll see what kind of character Silva has if midseason offers come in from bigger clubs like Everton.
  15. For me Moyes to West Ham highlights the lack of decent options for clubs seeking a new manager. Failed at Man U. Failed in Spain. Got relegated with Sunderland. The W.Ham supporters probably can’t believe their luck.
  16. The Mail is claiming that Moyes will be going to West Ham after they sack Bilic today.
  17. He should have brought JWP on earlier for one of our more defensive players - Davis probably. I thought that Davis and Romeu had a decent game together and will be content to see them start again against Liverpool if Lemina's still injured but once Saints were a goal down the need was to keep the team's best attacking players on the pitch. I did note however that VVD seemed to be positioning himself as some kind of auxiliary attacker at the end.
  18. Subbing off Boufal in injury time while a goal down said it all for me.
  19. I agree with this. I've been a fan of Dyche but today his team just played behind the ball, parked the proverbial bus and left Woods stranded up front. They scored with pretty much their only effort on goal.
  20. The problem is he's worse than Puel. If Pellegrino was Les Reed's best option when he was considering changing the managerial position, then he should not have fired Puel.
  21. There is no doubt in my mind that Pellegrino is not good enough to manage Southampton FC. The only question is, are there any decent available options to replace him and will Les Reed revise his picayune, let’s tick all the boxes hiring strategy, with simply hiring the best man for the job.
  22. I wonder if Vokes would have mugged Hoedt for the goal, like he did with Yoshi.
  23. I’m not sure what’s so funny about losing at home to Burnely.
  24. That was depressing.
  25. Booos rain out as we lose at home to ****ing Burnley.
