What attacking system would you play then Dez?

Puel keeps saying we have a "young team" not used to playing every three days, but its not really true in the league, is it? https://southamptonfc.com/news/2016-11-06/claude-puel-post-hull-city-2-1-southampton-reaction Today Redmond was our youngest player (22) and he has well over 100 career apps. Seven of our starting XI were over 25 and the others were (Redmond aside) VVD, Clasie and Romeu - all experienced for their age. Many of these players played European or Intl football before joining us. Just seems a strange thing to continually underline. Today wasn't a lesson for a young team at all.

Being saved for the Crawley game because its our best chance of reaching a cup final.
-
Yoshida at RB today.
-
Great player, but of course you'd to pay to watch him. Thats kind of how going to watch professional football works.
-
Assuming you are family, be proud - he has been great. Also seems like an intelligent lad who comes across superbly. That clearly helps his football.
-
He is literally just cover for Bertrand. There is a huge drop in quality between Bertrand and Targett. McQueen has been a big upgrade on Targett of late and has lessened the impact of Bertrand being out. He just seems more assured and better physically suited to this level of football than MT. No slight on Matt. PL is a harsh world and Targett struggles in many games at that level.
-
Funny then that JWP, McQueen and Yoshida (brought in for those rested) were all within our best 5 players on the night. Puel got it right as he has most of the season.
-
Miles better than Targett, especially in physical attributes, concentration and game management. Big find.
-
Brilliant night. Deserved win! McQueen, JWP and Hojbjerg excellent but Van Dijk the outstanding player by a distance. He is ridiculous. Should go through now and should go to Prague looking to overhaul them at the top of the group.

Any sightings of beered up Inter fans throwing bottles off the Itchen Bridge?
-
Why? Its a business owned by an individual. They won't communicate anything they don't need to, especially as these situations and fluid and can change quickly.

China is well known for its vast supply of down to earth 'football men' who are steeped in the history of the game and know what its like in the lower leagues.
-
Tidy profit from a canny investment by Markus Liebherr. It makes a lot of sense to sell now.
-
Its not just the 'big' games he doesn't impose himself in. He is, as you say, good at tracking players and most likely does what the manager says, but he just doesn't look like he has what it takes. If he hasn't adapted by now then I doubt he ever will. If he can't play 90mins regularly after well over a year then will he ever?
-
Awful defending for both goals.
-
From the excitement when we signed him he is one of the most disappointing signings since we moved back to the PL. Very average going forward, physically unsuited to the league. Would rather have Jack Cork in the squad. He just doesn't do a lot and also struggles to complete 90mins or take part in more than one game per week. Seems to be a good pro and works hard, just looks like this level and the speed of the game is really hard for him.
-
Good starting lineup. Puel obviously favours the tactical discipline of Clasie over the more expansive Hojbjerg (certainly against the tougher sides). Striking depth a concern with those injuries.
-
Will beg to differ. He puts the odd decent cross in when he has time and space (like the one for Long's header last season) but I have never seen him try to beat a man and he is never key to our attacking play like RB is. He is solid on the ball bit, lacks a yard of pace at this level, both in defence and attack. Rarely has a game where he is above 6/10, certainly not at LB in a back four, and he has probably made 20 or so starts by now. He is targetted by the opposition as a weakeness every time he starts in the PL.
-
Targett and McQueen are miles off the level of Bertrand. Personally I am not convinced Targett is even PL quality. Offers nothing going forward and struggles against any opponent with a bit of pace who attacks him directly. No reason to sell Bertrand, but if that were to happen we would need a replacement of similar quality.

More points in 2016 than City, Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea
Dusic replied to whelk's topic in The Saints
It involves having maybe more belief and faith in what is possible. Obviously has no impact to anything on the pitch. At the start of the season the consenus of those who sit near me seemed to be that it would be an acceptable season to finish 4 or 5 places lower than we did last season, but given our 2016 form that would be settling for far less than what our team is capable of I think. Whilst its perhaps understandable for pundits and the media to be sceptical of Saints ability to maintain what is now consistently good performance, it seems lots of our own fans continue to be suprised rather than setting their standards a little higher. -

Also shows that perhaps we as fans should aim higher than being happy with 10th and decent cup run? -
Any concern in the fact that Bertrand, Targett, Long & McCarthy have all had hamstring injuries this season? I think that low volumes of injuries of this type are usually heralded as being preventable due to excellent injury prevention work and the sports science, S&C departments etc versus impact injuries which are less controllable. Some of those listed haven't even played a large no of minutes this season, so can't be due to fatigue. I imagine they will be all over it, but definitely seems an increase versus other years.
