Am I the only one that thinks we need a striker come Jan ?
Chez replied to Saints boy in Leeds's topic in The Saints
unless we sell I'd of thought we won't bring many or anyone in. The £30m might be an exaggerated figure, but we still spent a wedge and the BVI loan tells us there isn't a never ending supply of funds available. We need to get some of these big earners off the wage bill like Sharp, Lee and Chaplow. -

Opinions opinions. Mine is that he has been outstanding for us for four or five years. He had a great season last year and was without question the best keeper in the division. He played a major part in our promotion. -
not sure, I always thought it meant outside the really big cities like London and Birmingham, but I think it might mean outside of the capitol city. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1979_European_Cup_Final in the summary it describes then as a relatively small provincial club

Is he ? Your wife is the most beautiful syndrome going on there. He's slow, possibly the slowest non-big man striker I have ever seen, has a poor first touch, no where near good enough for the premiership and offers pretty much nothing in the build up. You carry him in games hoping for a chance to fall his way. Do we really have 10 other players good enough to enable us to have a goal hanger in the side? Maybe if we'd kept him he'd have 5 goals like Fondre, but maybe we'd be bottom of the league too. I was glad we let him go out on loan. For the record I don't rate Lee, Fonte or Barnard either. Rodriguez is still developing, but looks a better all round player to me. Who the hell knows what Mayuka can do.

he was bound to score less goals, but he's still got more than Aguero, Holt, Jelavic and Berbatov and the same as Rooney and Tevez. He has been slightly less dominating up front as the defenders are simply better. His touch hasn't been spot on and having less space means he's given the ball away at times which hasn't happened in the lower leagues. However, for me he still looks effective and by far and away the best man to lead our attack. I actually agreed with Adkins decision not to start him against the very tall West Ham. I just wonder if he will go the same route against the equally tall Stoke.

they have a wonderful history with a trophy haul that far exceeds our wildest dreams, but they are never have been a huge club. I think the term used to describe them is provincial and the fact a club of their size won those trophies was the amazing thing. Are we ourselves not a provincial club? With a brother in law as a fan I don't want to admit they are bigger, though I concede more successful.

Has Adkins got anything right since the end of last season
Chez replied to lydlinch saints's topic in The Saints
hardly OTT, it needs a post like "our play off hopes are hanging by a thread" before it could be described as that. The smell of fish on this thread is unbearable. -
we'll win. Ramirez will get it right and the whole world will see we've signed a star...hopefully.

Clyne has made his fair share of mistakes, some of which have led to goals too. It happens.
-
I can't remember seeing them live this season, are they playing Walters out wide then?
-
up for it or up to it? The latter is an opinion I disagree with, but certainly an opinion, the former is the biggest load of **** I've read on here for some time.

no reason at all. I just liked him, and seeing as he is unemployed right now I thought that until he finds another job we could keep him busy and perhaps our players could benefit from his knowledge. He won't come here. No reason not to call him. You know, around 1990 John Mortimor trained the associate schoolboys at SFC. He'd been let go as Beneleses manager a post he held not long after being Benfica and Real Bettis manager. If you don't ask. are Forest really bigger than us these days?
-
How about getting Sean O'Discoll into the fold. Probably no chance or no position available, but always rated him and liked his style of football and it seems to match Adkins' own philosphy.

If you were given £15m to spend on one player in January?
Chez replied to lordswoodsaints's topic in The Saints
We badly need a wide man so how about Downing and Nani? Maybe Malouda? I shudder to think what sort if wages these guys would want so that £15m will have to go a long way. -
In the post match interview Adkins pointed to rotation, but do we have enough quality on the sidelines to bring in? Our midfield ran themselves into the ground in the second half, so that'd where you'd want to make changes, but take Puncheon, Morgan and Cork out and we'll look thin. Lambert MUST play too. Ramirez is another who put a shift in. Forget these cobbled together sides/formations. Stoke should be seen as a top side and to get something out of the game we are going to need to play out of our skins and be set up right. 4-4-2 is a must otherwise Kightly and Etherington will destroy us. I don't want to see Ramirez, Rodriguez or Mayuka being asked to protection Shaw and Clyne. -----------------------------Davis---------------------- Clyne--------Fonte------------Yoshida---------Shaw Puncheon---Cork---------Schneiderlin-----Guly --------------Ramirez----------------- ------------------------Lambert---------------- Sub: Borac, Richardson, Hooiveld, S Davis, Rodriguez, Mayuka, de Ridder

Will Buckley - Brighton to Saints (link in the Mirror)
Chez replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
oh. This is when the Gazza mistakes against Swansea and Norwich come back to haunt us as those extra 4 points would give us that little bit of breathing space. -
not exactly sure another keeper would have dealt with it any better. De Gea spilled one yesterday in exactly the same manner. Davis is an improvement on Gazza.

the opposition hasn't been as good. If United, City, Spurs, Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea were up next then it wouldn't be surprising if we started conceding goals again. -

good point. Wide left is realistically the only position we have an available slot right now. All positions can be improved upon, but that is he glaring hole -
when did that start?
-
Lambert is the first name on the team sheet in this game IMO. His defensive ability is essential at set peices.
-
teh difference between the two is that Fox failed to do anything when it was 1 on 1 either
-
not the worst shout in the world. Never gonna happen as he won't `lower' himself to our level (nor could we afford him), but when on song he's outstanding. Not sure we want another `luxury' player. He also looks low on fitness and confidence and a direct up and down wide man might be a better option.

Lots of errors, but Ramirez didn't track back leaving Shaw exposed. The formation led to this. Adkins' fault in my opinion.
