  1. if Jaidi is back in training is there a need to bring in another CB. OK so Jaidi is long in the tooth, but he was young enough to get a contract in the summer so NA trusted he could do a job this season so he is still going to trust him. We have four centre backs plus Cork if we are really desperate. I think we'll wait till the summer to bring in a CB. NA hasn't denied Commons link so we are clearly in for a wideman and a striker.

cheers. All of that is now on my to do list.
  3. hardly ever get the chance to listen, but when I do I find his commentary as dull as dishwater. "Lack of width" "The boy.." "What Saints don't want to do now is concede another" is pretty much all he ever says. IMO he doesn't paint a very good picture of events in the game, which is what he is there for and as the "expert" I expect him to describe elements from a pro's point of view so you really know what happened. He invariably doesn't offer that kind of insight. Co-commentators first and foremost should require good orator skills and sadly he fails at the first hurdle IMO. I know he is seen by some as a legend, but as with most of BBC Solent the coverages comes across as very dated and perhaps aimed at senior listeners. That might be OK for general programmes, but when it comes to football coverage the demographic changes hugely I'd of thought. Perhaps also BBC Solent should change the co-commentator every few games?
  4. 75% of internationals that you were available for selection for makes a difference. Did he have an injury of any sort of over the last 2 years?

  6. perfect return to Saints cause for Dalek to grab hold of here. Should we fail to go up he can go on about fans preventing him from joining the club and causing our promotion failure for the next ten years
  7. Cardiff at home on the Tuesday afterwards though so canlt see us wanting that.
  8. the only reason Celtic and Ranger struggle in Europe is because their budgets are tiny. Give either £30-50m to spend each year like Prem sides get and they'd attract the best players and would be a force in Europe. Likewise if they were allowed in the Prem they'd thrive as money talks.
  9. the failure of Miller, Boyd and McDonald before him must make Prem sides wary.
  10. not strictly takeover related, but can I suggest you buy/read this months edition of When Saturday Comes. Nice article about the derby game in there by James De Mellow.
  11. don't like any of them, but the shows works brilliantly (the India one wasn't their best) and is one of the better things of telly. The Vietnam edition was outstanding.
  12. maybe all these `proven quality players' your talking about are not after a few grand more, but actually want £10k more a week and much more besides? After going into admin five minutes ago I don't ever want to see us spend more than we have gambling on promotion. Every time we are knocked back it actually installs confidence that the current regime are not going to **** us. Let me put it this way. What if we signed Sharp, paid him £28k a week and then he performed like he did at Sheffield - woeful - we didn't arrest our slide and missed out on promotion. We're then stuck with Sharp (who no one fancies) for another 3 years and Cortese has no choice but to increase ticket price by 40% again just to cover his wages. How many would be on here saying it was worth the gamble?
  13. Irons in the fire points to Hooper or Sharpe or maybe Forte going or any other scunny player. Ian Botham perhaps?
  14. People shouldn't just look at the table and prejudge Forest. They have been all over sides, not scoring goals and getting done on the break. They are still a decent side and gave us a run for our money at SMS. If Miller hadn't been injured in the second half I don't think we would have won that game. That said I think he's still injured so we have a good chance if we play like we did at Brighton up to the sending off. I hope we do ourselves justice as I'm driving up with the Forest supporting brother in law so it could be a long drive back for one of us.
  15. there was some sort of protest with several hundred only entering the stadium 15 minutes after kick off according to ITV.
  16. unless we bring in another winger then he'll remain on the books I'd of thought.
  17. Cardiff at our place a couple of days later might shape the cup side
  18. Tino Asprilla is our man
  19. you hope we are willing to pay more than the going rate to get our man you mean?
  20. is £20k a week being frugal or deluded?
  21. standing on the very back row, so perhaps your view was better than mine. But let me just say that I haven't been so calm at a Saints game since the JPT final. They had nothing as a side, and he didn't worry me at all. He may well have been their best player (not hard), but he was still very unimpressive and I came away disappointed as I knew we had been linked. Sluggish is the term I'd of used. They only looked to have any threat when Platt came on. He offered a genuine physical threat. Miller on the other hand was a nightmare and if he hadn't gone off Forest may well have won that game. He had strength, pace and held the ball up well bringing others into the game well. Better players around will have helped I guess. Opinions, opinions. I've seen LJ once live. If I was going to buy a striker for millions I'd watch him at least four or five times. Perhaps you've seen him more times than me. I hope he is brilliant if he's signing on Monday.
  22. Spurs bought Hutton who turned out to be pretty ****. They weren't top four then. Everton signed McFadden in 2003 and got in the champions league 2 seasons later. Liverpool bought Daniel Wilson from Rangers in 2010. Again they weren't top four either. Sunderland spent £9m on Craig Gordon from Hearts. and Villa bought Petrov. I'd like to say Henrik Larsson, but he went via Barca and Helsingborg as the top four would certainly have taken him if they could.
  23. it's certainly winnable. Get a result at draw Forest and maybe beat Leicester and we'll be full of confidence for this game. I notice Bristol City beat Millwall home and away too. D&R are third bottom in league 2. I think they sold their best player - Green - a while back.
  24. McCann seriously undermined my opinion of the Scottish league, although Jos has helped increase it, but playing in front of 60,000 fans, winning things and European football surely mean we'd have to pay a fortune in wages to get him to move. Getting their 5th choice CB is one thing, but their star striker? Maybe the posters on here pointing to a flawed transfer policy are actually right.
  25. He sold him for £2.4M, which makes a big difference as Celtic aren't going to sell him for less than they bought him seeing as he has done well there. For that reason it seems like a non starter to me.
