Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees. some pace to cover our giant CB's is ideal.
-
No idea if Jon is any good, but an attacking right back sounds just the ticket so long as he can defend. I hope he is pacey, anyone confirm that? Pardew has done it again. Just when I thought he had ignored our weak spot he goes and get a player to fill it. I think that puts to bed once and for all any idea that AP buys players in positions he already has enough quality in (as said by Charlton fans when he joined us) - unless of course you think Perry, Lancashire and Thomas were the answer for the second half of the season. 6 month contract - no brainer. I wonder when we are going to ship a few out?
-
I'm sure it will blend in with the rest of the `stadium'
-
Meh, I explained where I got my incorrect figure from, and you are right I should have questioned it, perhaps, but then again I've never seen a 6'2" centre back lose so many headers as Thomas, so why would I? Whatever, I'm just happy we have some tall lads in and hopefully they are better in the air than Thomas and Perry.
-
spot on. Murty is very average, but the difference is now he has had plenty of time to identify the men he wants rather than taking what was effectively left. Loaning player before signing them, or short 6 month deals are a very good way forward.
-
no shortage of saints fans screaming for us to sign him at all costs I recall.
-
if you say so, http://www.soccerbase.com/players_details.sd?playerid=9365 either way he is not all that good in the air in my book. More than happy with him as right back cover but he's a very poor centre back and I have said that pretty much since day one barring a great display at Sheffield United in his first few games.
-
if people think back to the first game of the season at SMS you will recall Millwall chasing the game in the last 15 minutes, bringing on Jason Price and chucking him up front as part of a three as they went long. It was Perry and I think Thomas that day failing yet again to cope with long ball football. As yet another long ball was failed to be won cleanly it went for a corner from which they scored (again because we didn't win a clearing header cleanly and Abdu headed it back and in). A 5'11" and 5'9" centre back pairing cost us that day. Since then we have signed Trottman 6'2", Jardi 6'3", Martin 6'3", Fonte 6'2" and Seaborne 6'3". Pardew, a centre back by trade is not daft.
-
one `insider' privy to the information has posted, the rest don't know whether to believe her or not.
-
With no Jardi, Seaborne is the natural replacement if we are looking for a ball winner. Suspect it will be Perry and Fonte though. No sense in changing the entire CB back partnership, although it didn't do Villa any harm when they brought two new CBs straight in. Besides even I have to admit that Perry has done pretty wellin recent weeks.

good thinking, get another game in before the Embargo is lifted and they buy themselves out of trouble.

I saw Misfud play for Malta against Portugal in the world cup qualifier about a year ago and he looked a very tidy player to me. Very decent first touch and a good footballing brain. Not too dissimilar to Connelly, but it was hard to tell if he had the finishing prowess as they hardly got out their own half that day. Stood out a mile amoungst Malta's side (not saying anything) but more than held his own against Portugal. I have to say I'd like to see us going for a striker that is going up the football world not down. We already have the experience with Connelly, Lambery and Waigo. Mind you who is there other than Jackson?
-
brum are worth a watch these days.
-
maybe I only believe the posters that are saying the things I want to hear, but those that are saying he is decent certainly come across as more balanced than those that don't. Just to reitterate that I'm not underwelmed at all by this transfer. 6'3", 22 year old ball winning centre backs that captain their side to two promotions sound right up my street. I look forward to seeing him at the Den if he plays.
-
really? Which one is crap in the air and is terrible in posession, and which one is the unit that never loses headers? Seaborne sounds like the new Trottman to me. Fonte is the new Claus, possibly.
-
http://www.exeweb.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36509 some very mixed reviews in there - which fully supports hypchondriac's hesitancy. Although the balanced opinion from what I can see is that he is a genuine tough ballwinner, that makes the odd mistake, hoofs it too much and is at his best when he just wins the ball and gives it short to someone a shed load better on the ball - sounds very much like Trottman to me. Although one or two suggest that he can pass and wouldn't get int he side if he didn't. Let's hope so. Might be a good time to think about what a thread on here would look like if one of our centre backs was leaving and the kind of posts you'd get on there, cos if it was Perry off you'd get lots of good and plenty of **** from me and one or two others, Thomas would get lots of **** and a fair bit of not too bad, Lancashire would get nearly all **** with the spattering of give him time from me and others.
-
and your opinion was that he is not better than we already have. Do you actually know that?
-
he might play Waigo up front more now he has settled in, and also give Pattison a bit more game time. There doesn't appear to be too many strikers to go for. Jackson is perhaps too expensive and the League 2 doesn't seem to offer the striker withpace that we need. Is the loan market open to us after the window closes?
-
maybe as he is out of contract in the summer we are waiting till then so as to get him for free?
-
maybe we have mroe than one target for each of the positions thathe has highlighted. Makes total sense to not put all of your eggs into one basket - perhaps that was Burley's method - so Ward or Seaborne, Danns or Stock etc. Or as you have put it we are signing shed loads of players. Wonder when some will go out the door? I'd prefer us not to go back to the days of hoarding lots of **** players in squads of 40.
-
see, even you're not sure.
-
yet to prove he can play in midfield either though.
-
yeah cos clubs tend to agree to extra payments on the 117th league game (or 127th game for the club)
-
you shouldn't, fans just feel happier and more confident when signings are players they haev heard of, even if they are total ****e. Last season for instance, if we were signing either Hammond or Pulis, which do you think people woudl have preferred at the time? Exactly the same thing happened when we signed Marsden. He was stand out, at Brum - I know because I used to go to Brum games with a best mate, but because no one had heard of him when we signed him from Wolves there were so many comments similar to what I am seeing now with Seaborne. With Marsden he had to make the step up so there was always a slight doubt in my mind how effective he could be, especially when we moved him out to the left, but with Seaborne I don't have those doubts.
