  1. A billionaire bankrolled us through two divisions, that's a fact. I am able to appreciate and enjoy that, not sneeringly dismiss it as a myth. Call me names if it makes you feel better, sweetheart.
  2. Frank's figures not mine. My point was to dismiss that substantial amount as not being bankrolled is churlish and ungrateful.
  3. You called winning a tin pot nothing trophy as unrivalled success you effing loon.
  4. Spot on. Great post. This forum is populated by people behaving like spoilt children, merrily dismissing fifty odd million quid to a L1/NPC club as not being bankrolled, and at the same time whining about how terribly boring and depressing it would be to finish in eighth place again next season, even though we've only done that twice in 25 odd years. I'm with you. Support the team, come what may. And others can grizzle for it, but I am far happier seeing us achieving in a sustainable way, not some sugar daddy's plaything.
  5. Your blasé attitude to "only" £46m quid as not being bankrolled through two divisions just shows how divorced from reality to actually are. You think that's just normal spending for L1 and Championship clubs, do you? And you've got the cheek to mock that as a "myth". And Cortese quitting because if lack of funding or disagreement over strategy is a bottle job. If you are going to go on Sky Sports and the Daily Mail peddling your vision to all and sundry, if you are going to honk out your "ask not if, but how" cliché all over the shop....Then probably best to not then walk out on that "vision" and that "how" merely a couple of months later. Because that demonstrates conclusively one of two things, if not both: a) superficial commitment to the vision, leaving at the first sign of adversity b) no grasp of the "how" at all, because aligning your boss with the vision is step one on the "how" list. And quitting is also not "how" anyway. He quit Franko. He quit. That is a simple fact. Massive vision speeches is easy if your commitment to them is so flimsy you stroll out saying what might have been within months. So remind me, what are these myths again?
  6. I enjoyed it. One of the best days of my Saints supporting life, we might not get to Wembley again for a while. It does not, however, form part of an "unrivalled period of success" for Southampton Football Club. It's a pretty worthless small club tin pot trophy.
  7. Too right. Pretty small minded to call 2nd place in L1 and winning the bottom divisions trophy as unrivalled success in our history. For Leyton Orient maybe, but my horizons are far bigger than that.
  8. Winning the FL trophy is unrivalled success vs being in the FA Cup final. Right. Let's remember that next time you are going apesh it about out lack of ambition. Which, I guess, will be tomorrow.
  9. Entirely self-funded as well. And we moved to a new stadium. And Le Tiss scoring the last goal at the Dell. And if we are mentioning World Cups, Svennson vs the Argies was pretty darn satisfying too. But nothing to ever "rival" steamrollering to second place in League One powered by a billionaire.
  10. Not really. I understand what "unrivalled" means. And, well, you don't seem to.
  11. Who is being uppity sweetheart? Not me. But this guy....
  12. Laughable. Not really talking crap to be able to easily name two periods in our history (not the 18-1900s ones, that was a lickle joke on my part) that were just as successful as our "unprecedented" five years (that you moaned like a slag though out all of). But the late 70s to 80s and the 1990 to 2004 were equally if not more successful than your unprecedented period of success of finishing an amazing 7th in League One and a world beating 14th in the Premier League. Ohhh, so unprecedented.
  13. Superfan Alpine ("we're a bunch of bottlers, Wigan/West Ham/Huddersfield are showing us how it's done, we're going down/blown promotion") and Strawlock have decided otherwise. It's their phenomenal perspective what they have got, you know.
  14. Unrivalled success in our clubs history? Good god.
  15. So for someone demanding facts in Cortese's honour, you've ended up speculating that the vision wasn't his but someone else's after all. What a con - man he was, then. You don't half tie yourself in knots, Delldays.
  16. Who is "you lot"? Cortese quitting because KL refused to commit financially to the CL push is the most common theory given by the pro - Cortese members of the forum. So "you lot" is who lot exactly?
  17. In the statement the club gave where they accepted his resignation. ie he resigned. On my planet the colloquial term for that is "quit".
  18. What is a fact Delldays, is that he quit. Only a few months after telling all and sundry we were heading to the Champions League (another fact). Big promise, then jacked it in. He quit. Fact.
  19. Ask not if you can peddle pie-in-the-sky "ambition" to poor gullible saps, but how.
  20. Who knows what he could have achieved if he maintained his stomach to deliver Champions League football within a sustainable budget, instead of scarpering at the first sign of adversity.
  21. Me saying we can and hopefully will finish mid table over a number of seasons (as you asked, by mid table I mean around the middle of the table) a d go for cup success in Europe (and domestically) is as niaive as people saying we can qualify for the Champions League? You do write some exceptional strawman nonsense but this one is right out of the top drawer. Seriously, well done.
  22. This is about right to me. I fail to see how not pursuing the CL pipe dream is then whipped up into us hurtling to oblivion. We could quite easily sustain a nice mid table Premier league club, bringing young players through, and why not get to the Europa League final like Boro and Fulham did, but actually win the thing like they didn't. I know that seems beneath the nutcases like Richmond and Alpine but it would effing well do me.
  23. His voice has just been on Five Live. Swoon.
