Think that is my favourite game. Stood on the West Stand terrace and the quality of the performance that day was just incredible. Liverpool had not lost in ages and we blew them away for the whole 90 minutes. Of course with it being Saints I was a bit nervous when they scored with the penalty but they were nowhere near us for most of that match. Matt Le Tiss had a real turn of pace at that time as you can see in a couple of runs during those highlights. Strangely I always remember that game mostly for Jason Dodd getting in the cross for the first in what I think was his home debut. There were some great players on display that day. Can't imagine having a team or performance like that any time soon.

The same old rubbish game after game after game. Whatever the formation, whatever the team, it is the same old rubbish. Looks like another season of getting the odd win in 10 if we catch the opposition on a bad day and hoping there are three teams going to screw it up more than us. Another wasted summer of buying players for the future when it has been clear for three years that we need players for now. Management of the club from top to bottom is pathetic and we need to get rid of Gao to have any chance of recovery in any area. This team deserves to go down and it is just a matter of time until that happens. No positives and no light at the end of the tunnel for this team. It is just such a waste of time. The team has gone backwards from the end of last season, and that is some achievement in itself.

Do we bother doing any defending in training? Same pathetic mistakes game after game after game.....
-
The manager seems quite clueless when selecting and organizing a defence. Yes, we have limited quality in every area but surely he can see that was not going to work. Will he have the smarts to sort it out in the second half? If not then I can only think he believes it more important to make a point with certain players than winning games. Truly awful performance.

Terrible defensively - who would ever have guessed? How many transfer windows has that been now where this fundamental issue has not been addressed? And given a full pre-season with Ralf x, y, z will become a good player. Not one player today looked any better/different from last season. The tactics were also completely wrong and not changed during the game to any effect. Can our coaches not coach those players basic defensive principles? Can't really see any positives from today and it also appears as if nobody at the club ever learns any lessons. Three central defenders when using the same three hopeless players doesn't suddenly become any better. Leaders don't suddenly appear when you have no leaders on the pitch. You can't score goals when you have no natural goalscorers and no linking play in midfield. Football is really not such a difficult game but we try very hard to make it look so.

This deal is awesome. We now have a dodgy, invisible Chinese sponsor to add to a dodgy, invisible Chinese owner. Good thing we don't have all our eggs in one basket when it all goes tits up. I am in China at present and this makes great conversation. Nobody here has ever heard of the aforementioned dodgy owner and he is as big a nobody in his home country as he is in Southampton. A quick search on the Chinese internet yielded quite a few smirks from those doing the searching. The squirrel is our big summer replacement for Charlie Austin.

Met him twice and, as others have said here, he was a really nice person face to face. He personally replied to my letter complaining about his football style and invited me to watch training. First time was at the Dell for a closed training session and was invited back the following day to the training ground. After training he invited me to his office for a chat that was about half an hour long. I was unconvinced what he said about his long ball style of football and, in particular, about dropping Le Tiss, but he did have a plan and was very interesting to talk to. After driving home I switched on the radio and found out he had been sacked! Almost felt sorry for him!

So inevitable, unfortunately. Played well but goalie looks so slow getting down.

Disappointing window for me, although we will not really be able to judge its effect until the end of the season. To weaken the squad at this point is a real gamble. The players that left have not really been figuring in recent months so not such a big deal as such, but the squad is just so lacking in quality in almost every area. RH himself alluded to wanting to play four at the back to provide more attacking options but agreed that the team cannot function that way with the current personnel (i.e. all the defenders being a bit rubbish) so had to sacrifice attacking for more solidity at the back. Yet nobody was brought in to address lack of quality at the back or provide more attacking options. Lots of people seem to be assuming that everything will be put right in the summer but there is not a lot of evidence from recent years to suggest that will be the case. The assumption seems to be that we will be rid of all those players we don't want and will be able to buy new ones that we do. It seems more likely on recent evidence that those players we don't want will be back and and we will have to sell some players we don't want to sell before bringing in anyone new. The net improvement probably won't be that great and we will still be stuck with loaning out those same unwanted players at the end of the summer whilst being restricted on what we can bring in.

So easy for City. Probably game over after 9 mins.

It really is quite astounding that a serious business can make a decision to get rid of a key member without having any clue what to do next. Removing Les was the right thing to do but you would think they would have a plan on his replacement whereas it seems like there is no idea even of the type of replacement they need. I expect RK's satellite will be in orbit for some time trying to figure out what to do next - probably not returning to earth until it is too late. Thought we were supposed to be a model club that everyone else was jealous of

Ability or Attitude of the players - what’s worse?
IronCitySaint replied to SKD's topic in The Saints
Having seen the continuing decline under several successive managers I'm not really sure that the squad has as much talent as some like to think. In fact this squad seems to be totally lacking in talent judging by the fact that they can't seem to pass, shoot, defend or find space to receive a pass. This is the most dismal, depressing bunch of players I can remember. Some may have a bit of talent but rarely put it on display, but whether that is due to tactics, lack of fitness of general uselessness of others around them it is difficult to say. Also, I'm not sure that they necessarily have a bad attitude. There is some evidence that they are trying, but are just not good enough. When relegated from the Premier League the last time the club had accumulated a bunch of average players all with very similar personalities; all good lads but mostly quiet and unassuming and definitely lacking in leadership qualities. That **** HR recognised this as a problem and did bring in some personalities, but they were unfortunately hopeless footballers at the same time. For me, the exact same thing has happened again. In the past, people inside the club have discussed how the 'legendary' black box picks players on whether they 'fit' the characteristics of the club as well as on playing ability. Much as last time, that has now led to an abundance of 'good lads' who probably all get on well but are not likely to have much leadership in the dressing room or on the pitch. It needs some different and stronger personalities in the dressing room who are prepared to lead and perhaps call out bad performances and bad attitudes. After each defeat I expect our lads go into the dressing room, put on their headphones and move onto the next thing. Everyone in the club from top to bottom seem too comfortable with failure and mediocrity. Something or someone needs to get in there and shake it up. Unfortunately, we all know that is not going to happen to we just continue to limp on. -
Can anyone honestly say there is a worse team in the league than us? City can score at will and this is probably the easiest game they have played in a long time. The club is a shambles from top to bottom and something needs to change now, but it won't. Depressing season.
-
Total shambles. Can't even put one pass in a row. Could be a cricket score
-
This team is so lacking in personality and talent it is depressing. No sustained pressure for practically the entire game against a hopeless team, at home. Can't see any goals coming for a long time and no goals always leads to relegation eventually. Can't see any way to improve with these awful players and worse leadership at every level of the club.
-
Terrible second half. What were they thinking after being in control in the first half? The home record is a joke and you can't be throwing away two goal leads at home to Brighton who were awful themselves. Not happy.
-
Didn't deserve to lose but it is fitting for this **** season to lose to yet another last minute goal. Thought Saints played well today, but glad the season is over.
-
Yes - finally a great day in a **** season!
-
Pretty poor so far with hardly any quality on display from Saints. Can't pass, move into space or even control the ball. The defence looks dodgy, yet Austin probably had the two best chances of the game. I can see Romeu getting sent off - does he ever win a tackle rather than giving a free kick. Not feeling confident at all. One goal from them and it will be all over as there is no confidence on display. We need a huge slice of luck in the second half.
-
How many times are we going to be screwed by refs this season? And Bertrand, worst player on the pitch today. Utterly hopeless. Feel sorry for the other players.
-
Utterly abysmal. No positives to take from this yet again. Worst team in the league without a doubt.
-
I thought that was comically bad. A bunch of well paid professionals who can't even seem to kick a ball with any conviction, let alone find a pass or have a shot anywhere near the target. Most of the first half we sat so deep with just one player up the field so there was never any outlet if we actually won the ball. When there was an attack it seemed like nobody on either side believed we would actually create anything from it. There is no way back for this team - even a lucky win today will not start a great revival. This team has nothing left to give.

In relation to the academies in the US, I wonder what is the purpose and whether it is worth the money? Saints sponsor an academy here in the Iron City but the teams play at such a low level that there is little chance of finding any talent to benefit the parent club. Maybe that is not the purpose and the aim is to give the club exposure and sell a few more shirts. But if that is the case they are going about things in the wrong way. The Saints academy here has named all its teams "Hotspurs" so all the players and parents buy Tottenham shirts and support them. Most of them have never heard of Saints. Utterly ridiculous and if that is an indication how things are being run then it is not surprising commercial revenue is still so low.

We will not win another game under this imbicile. And with no desire from the board and owner we could be down for a very long time. Of course, we are just a small club so should expect this. Worst performance of a terrible season. No fight from anyone and nobody at the club cares. Manager and board need to go and fans need to start getting more vocal. They have been given much too easy a ride.
-
We are simply a terrible, terrible team that deserves to go down. Need to get rid of the donkey manager and bord before next season for a clean start, otherwise it will be more of the same in the Championship. Pathetic
