Norwich don't have a chairman who is, rightly or wrongly, regarded as a hate figure. Norwich haven't embarked on a playing policy that a significant proportion of the usual Saints crowd have absolutely no faith in. Personally, I don't think he could be wider of the mark if he tried.

If it's an ALL electric household, then it's not outrageous, but is is high, I'll grant you. Those storage heaters have always been a terrible false economy, in my opinion.

Yes..! I remember when I first heard that line, I thought... that's good, I like that. Because it's true. Tap that line into Google nowadays, and you'll be surprised how far it has travelled.

Of course there's always hope JFP, the season hasn't ended yet. It's what Saints fans have existed upon for the last few seasons. But hope is getting to be a pretty thin commodity around St Marys these days. Despite my words of depression, I always want Saints to win through, whoever is at the helm.

I think the £300 per month is a fair evaluation. Maybe £350 at the most. As for the best time to buy, surely the best time to buy is when it is best for you. Fewer people are buying, which makes it all the better for you. Yes, you could wait 12 months, you could wait until 2014 or so, and get a better price. But would the circumstances be better for you..? All this talk of waiting might get you a saving of a few grand, and buying now might mean negative equity for a while. But so what..? You'll make money in the end, and you'll have your own roof over your head now. EDIT: Just read through the thread. Sorry you didn't get what you wanted.

Indeed. How can I boycott a newspaper I wouldn't dream of reading even if I found a copy lying around..?

It may be pointless, but let us not forget where the poison started. Right there; and it was never more evident in George Bowyer's need to sell his shares. To me, what was done to him was twisted and disgusting.

Having read through the thread, there are many points that ring true. The truth is, the club has backed itself into a financial tight corner. Never has the cliche - being between a rock and a hard place been so apt, for a football club. Rupert, with his tradition of losing his managers [i won't say sacking, as it isn't always true] either early [stuart Gray and Paul Sturrock], or too late [steve Wigley], finds himself in a position where he has chosen, not only the man to take the squad forward, but he's also chosen the plan. So he's responsible for more than being a chairman. Whereas another club will sack the manager for taking the squad in the wrong playing direction, so to speak; the same can't be said of Jan Poortvliet. He has taken the squad in his direction at the full behest of Rupert Lowe. So how can you sack JP..? You can't - you have to sack RL. And then who else takes up the reins - Mark Wotte..? It's the same thing. If RL sacks JP [which he won't] he'll have to overturn everything. The whole youth team experiment ends. The whole total dependance upon homegrown players getting into the first team, by way of succession, ends. It's funny, but often we say that JP has no Plan B. Well RL has no Plan B either. How anyone, who is so cautious and prudent with the finances, can be such a juggernaut and committed to one cause, knowing that failure means a total crash, has to be some kind of split personality. RL isn't going for another option because, like many people said earlier in the season, there are no other options. Unless a minor miracle happens, it's either sink slow or sink fast. And I don't believe in miracles.

Saints Greatest XI - Best Left Side Striker Poll
St Landrew replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
Yes you did. Martin Chivers only received one genuine nomination, whereas Rod Wallace received two. As mentioned in the top post [please le god someone prove to me they are reading these] all those who received more than one nomination got into the final 6 players. Next week is all about the B [back-up] team. No doubt, Big Chiv will get another chance then. -
Has anyone noticed the other articles on the right of the main one. One leaps out: Saints sign Swedish Defender..! We had no idea how good he would turn out to be.

The last thing we need now is for Jan to pull off a freak result
St Landrew replied to Mr X's topic in The Saints
No abuse from me. I realise where the sentiment is here. I think we'd all like Saints to start getting their act together, nicely and consistently, over the next half dozen games [like they have been doing at Notts Forest, for example], and slowly creep up the league. Nobody expects miracles, and that is why we know where the club is heading, because it's going to take one to stop this train. Freak results, that Saints have always been good at, are just a distraction. They merely give the younger fans a bit of hope, and make us older ones groan because it just extends the pain. Younger fans might note how similar it all is to when the last relegation happened. Only this time sadly, the circumstances are more desperate and there is less hope. -
What I found incredible, after Ron's last operation, was the speed of his recovery. I've known people in this country have hip operations, and several years down the line they are still in a bit of discomfort. This hints to me of several things: 1] Ron's still a relatively fit old bugger, and 2] The quality of his surgery is top notch. 3] That Albuquerque air must be dry as dry - few arthritic pains there I bet.

Seeing as everyone else is assuming, I'll assume that Fulthorpe assumed today would be the crunch day after presumably overhearing that yesterday's pre-crunch meeting would be held. Sadly, there was nothing crunchy about it at all. Instead, it was decidedly chewy with a sickly-sweet centre. Where did I hear that assumption is the mother of all f**k-ups..?

Saints Greatest XI - Best Left Side Striker Poll
St Landrew replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
Which is why, for the hotly contested positions of midfield and striker, we have done, and are doing already, exactly what you ask for. Y'know, reading is a very fine and overlooked skill that the vast majority of people have. I just wish some people on this forum would exercise it a little more occasionally. -
Saints Greatest XI - Best Left Side Striker Poll
St Landrew replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
Actually, he was too good for the B team. Hence, he's here for the A-Team, and a predictable runaway leader of that poll too. He'll end up beside his old teammate Mick Channon, I'm thinking. Shame he personally would have preferred his older teammate Martin Chivers. But he thought well of Micky too. Oops..! -
What you say is true Ponty. There's also Mike Hailwood who changed from 2 to 4 wheels. Even Damon Hill did it. But I've a feeling that if ever Valentino ever changes properly from 2 to 4 wheels, we'll possibly see a new level in control and speed in a new era. Tbh though. I think he loves bikes too much.

I've been a Saints fan ever since we hit the big time in 1966/67. You could call me a plastic fan if you wanted, tbh, I don't care a jot. I've watched Saints through most of the stuff most of today's fans can only dream of. I've always been loyal, to what ever I've been involved in, but there come a time when you get old enough and savvy enough to say... enough is enough. If Saints dip into League 1, that's pretty much it with me. I've got far better things to do. Sailing, motorcycling, just doing other stuff. Yeah, I'll talk about Saints stuff on here, but it'll be a pale shadow of what went before - long before. Honestly, this club has got to do a lot better to retain my interest. I've done with the inconsistency, the failure to improve on the last hopeful result. That's typical Saints anyway, and I'm not going to put up with it any longer. It's time Saints showed me they're worth the bother, because they certainly aren't at present. I'm supposed to be a customer. Well I don't like the product. Sell me one I'll consider buying.

Apparently he's only a few 10ths of a second away from Massa and Co. To have such command and feel for racing machinery, MotoGP, WRC, and F1. I call that genius. The fact that he's Italian doesn't hurt either. I used to be ashamed of my Italian heritage. Nowadays, I'm far more sanguine about it.

University from the academic point was great, but frankly, from a getting on perspective, I found the whole experience complete rubbish. I went into a 4 year Environmental Science degree knowing it would be easily sufficient for the job I wanted, and when I came out employers wanted a masters. Sod that. I worked myself to a standstill the first time around, and I don't have a massive work ethic either. I ended up with a reasonable job, and then eventually went back to IT.

Ooh dear, you really want to watch it with those flaky memories, when an internet image is just another tab and a click away.
-
At least you bought something though, and used it, which is all that matters. By the time you were ready to sail the weather had turned crap. August onward was a wash out. Don't worry, weather predictions for this summer are excellent. You can capsize that Topper until you're fed up with the bloody thing. I always like to sail something big enough to take a wee picnic and alcohol on board with me and my friend. Something like a Albacore or a Kestrel [15-16ft]. For you wetsuited Laser sporty types, a Stratos would be appropriate. I quite fancy a bit more trapeze stuff before I get too old. Got 2 wetsuits that still fit at a squeeze.

Not surprisingly Ron Davies was nominated 17 times. But we did end up with a final 6 players which include Ron. The others nominated more than once include: James Beattie, Phil Boyer, Steve Moran, Alan Shearer and Rod Wallace. The last time I cut a vote short and declared Terry Paine the winner, some people shouted fix, or manipulation of the vote and other derogatory phrases. So this time you can have a boring week of watching Ron run away with this vote. Don't blame me, blame the whingers and determindly confused..! This vote is for the A-Team left sided striker's position.. OK..? Got it have we..? Get voting. Poll will end Friday night/Sat Morning.

Saints Greatest XI - Nominations For Best left Side Striker
St Landrew replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
Bloody hell, just off to bed and forgot to wind this up. The voting will begin shortly, and last until Friday night. -
I would have thought it was quite obvious Duncan. SaintsWeb don't want Rupert and Co thinking that the website has manipulated its members, and that it came from one genuine fan which gained verbal support. It is something the Amin and Mods have had a little chat about before sticking the thread. It's only so Rupert can't point the finger - which I'm sure he will do in any case.
