  1. We had two. One currently plays for Reading and the other plays for Fiorentina.
  2. How do you get Christmas from Noddy..? Oh well... ------------------------------------------------ Easter
  3. To be honest, I hoped for someone a little more high profile. But Adkins should be able to do as well as anybody, possible better. But, so far, we're not the team of last season, and I think it'll take some time before the problem is resolved.
  4. I think, at the moment, we're a less dangerous team to play, compared to last season, and the reason for that is... no Antonio and no Papa Waigo. Both had unpredictability and movement in spades. For all of Connolly's class, we're a little predictable, compared to when either of the other two were in the team.
  5. 1-0 not
  6. I reckon Charlie Austin would be quite a catch, come January.
  7. Dave's started whispering very early on. About Puncheon having to be elusive.
  8. Must admit, I find apparently sensational comedians like Lee Evans incredibly unfunny. These people are obviously talented, it's just that they don't appeal to me. Another shining example is Steve Coogan. I thought he was OK, as far as his alter-egos, Paul and Pauline Calf were concerned, but as anything else, I find his enormous success totally unfathomable. Yet another is Victoria Wood. She makes me want to kick the TV screen in, or kick the radio over. Appallingly smug performer and person [and I observe her as a person rather more kindly than she sees others] Each to their own, I suppose. Tbh, most comedians, that don't appeal to me, aren't even on my radar.
  9. Back to whether Nicola Cortese and Saints are being unfairly treated. I notice Radio Solent presenter Kris Temple received an e-mail from a Saints supporter asking him to read the Saints website, as to speculation whether unyone had been offered the manager's position or not. On the website, it makes no mention of anyone being offered any position. Now, I usually give Kris Temple some respect, as he is a good and observant presenter and commentator. But when he said that the Saints website doesn't say that Bournemouth or Scvnthorpe managers weren't offered the position, I think that twists the truth, in News of the World style. After all, it also doesn't say that Sir Alex Ferguson, David Moyes, etc... weren't offered the job, either.
  10. I couldn't be bothered to put the sound on. I laughed like a drain.
  11. Started off in the Archers, just to the right of the goal. Always remember shouting some encouraging words at Gerry Gurr when he took a goal kick. He stopped his run-up and looked around, almost accusingly. I didn't know where to put myself. After a couple of seasons, I felt brave enough to go to the Milton end, and to the left of the goal, this time. John McGrath coming out well after every other player, with his shorts pulled up high, and scuffing his toes as he trotted, is my abiding memory there. Occasionally, an adult relative would come to football with me, and we'd end up in a stand, but mainly, it was the ends for me.
  12. As far as I know he doesn't finish every sentence he utters with an Australian upswing, so that's one major point in his favour. Anyone who talks like that needs to have their gonads swiftly and quietly removed while they're otherwise occupied. All others could conceivably apply for the Saints managers postion, as far as I'm concerned.
  13. Tbh, I think the members here ought to take responsibility for their own wild speculations. Hence my joke... I'll know the club mean business if they sign Sir Alex Ferguson. Just to add though, that whether or not the media have highlighted any WOW factors or not, I'm not disappointed that Saints have decided against Nigel Adkins. He may well be a fine manager, but I'd rather have one at St Marys with a higher profile.
  14. Series 1 and 2 are excellent, although I had trouble liking Mark Wing-Davey's overly smug Zaphod Beeblebrox accent, occasionally. That aside, I have Series 3, 4 and 5 as well. Sadly, they aren't quite a good, sounding a wee too melancholic, imo, but they're certainly still of a high standard. BTW, how do you think they managed to get Douglas Adams to play a bit part in a recording of Series 3, in 2003, when he'd already died by 2001..? I don't know. Obviously, that Improbability Drive gets everywhere.

  17. There's an awlful lot of bollix talked about in adverts about this shaver and that. 1,2,3,4,5, how many bloody blades does it take..? And why must one have a shave supposedly that close anyway..? It's all twaddle. As someone else said, use an Aldi triple blade at a fraction of the price or learn how to wet shave properly and use a cut-throat. I use an electric shaver for everyday shaving anyway. On the odd occasion I give my chin a rest and don't shave at all.

  19. What I'm wondering, on the appointment of this new manager is, whether we'll have a Kevin Keegan moment or a Steve Wigley moment; i.e. does the jaw hit the ground, and the eyes pop out, for the right reasons or the wrong..?
  20. Decided to listen to Nick Illingsworth on the Football League programme, after reading all the criticism on here, and surprisingly found that he summed the situation up quite well, from my, and perhaps a general perspective. Have a listen: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b00tt5t0/5_live_Football_League_06_09_2010 EDIT: It's on after the usual news and trailers.

    Waigo

So true. We need his speed; his ability to be in the right place at the right time; his sheer unpredictability against the opposition; his running off the ball, and his occasional goals. Plus I still think we could do with Antonio. But I really would love to have Papa Waigo back. Ideally, both. They were our unpredictable edge.
  23. Anna Sewell - blimey, I remembered that..!
  24. Scott Redding is physically OK. He had some stitches in his behind or back, but being 17 he basically bounced everywhere. As always, I've recorded every race from today, and playing back the incident, shows Scott being catapulted out of his seat. De Angelis is OK too. Both are hugely upset that they've accidentally contributed to a fellow rider's death. To be fair, there was nothing they could have done. I also agree in thinking that large fields of riders don't contribute to fatal accidents. Perhaps extremely large ones, like Moto2, can make the level of incident higher, but the accident involving Shoya, Scott and Alex could have happened in any of the classes. Dorna want to restrict the field, next season, to 35 bikes. They'll be lucky, as apparently teams are clamouring to get into Moto2, because it costs so relatively little, compared to the 250s of last season, and because it has been a massive hit of racing competition. Of course there is a balance that needs to be struck. On the one hand, fans have been saying that the 800cc event in MotoGP has become a bit boring because there are only 16 or 17 machines at any one time, and the field needs to increase to at least 25-30 riders. Dorna have said 24 for 2012, and no less than Casey Stoner has added that he thinks that ought to be a minimum. So the riders want the competition, but some people might regard that as extra danger. Motorcycle racing is a truly dangerous motorsport and the slightest of slight mistakes can have very bad consequences.
  25. He was a really strong rider, even at his tender age. Shoya was apparently extremely popular around the paddock, and all the riders were visibly moved when they commented about his death. I remember seeing him in 250s 2-strokes, last season and this season he naturally moved onto Moto2, the 600cc 4-stroke successor to the 250s. Immediately, he was very fast and won the first race in Qatar. He really looked the business too and was invariably chasing near the front of the huge Moto2 pack. Great little racer. RIP Shoya. There has already been some criticism of the marshalls at the Misano circuit. The race was not stopped, as there was no debris on the racing line, although Scott Redding was lying injured in the run off area, so perhaps the criticism could be aimed at the race director. However, it didn't help Shoya's condition that the marshalls actually dropped him while he was on the stretcher, although I think his injuries were that bad that it made very little difference. In motorcycle or sidecar racing, once you part with the machine, the best place to be is off the track, and Shoya had fallen on the racing line. Questions will almost certainly be asked of the conduct of the marshalls and race direction, but if you're run over by two following riders, at 170mph, your injuries will almost certainly be life threatening. Being hit by a fellow competitor is pretty much the most dangerous aspect of racing, whatever the track motorsport.
