Liverpool 0-0 Saints - Match & Reactions Thread

Another point, maybe gabbiadini would be more suited to the diamond as it would get someone closer to him to link up with, He seems to get very isolated in this system and bringing others into the game like pelle used to is not his strength. -

Guess a lot of people will be happy with a point, but we are absolutely shocking going forward. Romeau was probably one of the only players who tried to get his foot on the ball and try to get any possession or an attacking move started. Everyone else just tried to hoof it upfield or hoof it to the flanks.. feel sorry for gabbiadini playing in this side. -
id give frank de boer a chance, seemed the natural replacement for koeman if we wanted more of the same, respected name who was touted for much bigger things willing to give him a pass for the failing at inter
-
hope we can seal this. he looks to have a cracking left foot, can shoot from range something we really lack and also a good free kick taker.
-
Don't really agree with all the Redmond praise on what I've seen so far. Standard no end product pace merchant in the same ball park as Nathan dyer or arron Lennon.

Think there is a possibility puel views boufal as the answer to our striker problems, didn't he use Ben arfa as one of the two up top in this same formation? Bouffal being very simular in style looks ideal to be his New Ben arfa project and would mean tadic keeping his place as the playmaker ?

One in... One out - Why is that an issue?

Nail on head. Feel completely the same -
The posters were van hanegem who has been quite knowledgable in the past on Dutch players and Dutch Saint. At least they watch Dutch football so they probably know more then most of us Anyway there's no need to get excited about every signing the ones that deserve it like bouffal and van dijk fine but it seems like some people get excited with anyone.

Think a couple were saying they wasnt impressed with him last week and that ziyech was the one that coluld cut it in the prem. . Was hopin we would have gone for a marqee striker like lorenzo insigne, think even remy could have been good for us,pacy strikers would fit the diamond better
-
Haller looks poor, the dutch fans dont sound impressed either.
-
So level headed that he jumps at the chance to turn his back on the club that gave him an opportunity, even though we had a much better right back in Clyne. If he was that level headed wouldn't he want to at least establish himself first as first choice right back? It's the equivalent of target my going to Chelsea and then wondering why he's on the bench
-
Overrated player who quickly became to big for his own boots. Should of counted himself lucky to even have been getting a sniff of gametime when Clyne was here.
-
Must say stanciu looks a complete bargain. Looks to have a lot of end product to his game and it seems he is the highest rated Romanian since Hagi Shame in a way if we don't pick him up even if we will be a bit overloaded for number 10s
-
So what happens to tadic if we are sticking with the diamond ? Also stanciu sounds like he's incoming and that another number 10, think we need a striker more then anything, insigne or zaza please.
-
Would still like us to go for Lorenzo insigne. Seems the type of pacy striker that would be perfect for our system whilst being a much stronger finisher then Redmond and long. Good statement of intent to ease the fan pressure too

Ben arfa anyone?

Nice analysis. Totally agree and some great points about AVB in particular. Also worth noting that AVB also managed a undefeated season with Porto, only the second time that's been achieved, I'm actually leaning avb personally he's got European experience, fairly big name, good with youngsters, and also has a point to prove in the prem. Maybe he's less likely to get poached also after having failed at Chelsea and Spurs. All that said I'd be happy with emery or de boer also, it's pretty great timing for koeman to leave with so many fantastic options out there right now.
-
I think frank de boer would be the best choice if koeman decides to leave. Would be a nice continuation of what we have been building and like ronald a big name manager who players would love to play for
-
Would love to see long start as our regular centre forward, so impressed with him recently, never gives up on anything we look so much more mobile up front when he plays. Dare I say it he could be our Jamie hardy.
-
What's the excuses going to be next year if he playing in the prem? We signed a player who at the time was one of the most exciting youngsters in world football and let him rot Why didn't we try to get the best out of him. Players like ward prouse who only has a quarter of Ramirez football ability gets chance after chance whilst the blind supporters trash Ramirez for not being able to cut it whilst he's not getting game time. Absolutely mental .
-
I don't think he really did go backwards, his place in the side was taken by a inform Rodriguez and lallana under poch. Add in a few injuries and all of a sudden he was out in the wilderness and the board look like they gave up on him. When given a chance of the bench he still contributed the odd goal and assist, I think this situation could have been very different if he had found himself in front of Rodriguez in the pecking order.
-
I think gaston got some rough criticism from fans, it's difficult making an impression when your not in the first team as you see with the likes of Juanmi, even players of falcao'a caliber have struggled in this situation. To me he always looked a exciting player that could turn a game and I think if he started consistently he would make have a big effect. Good luck to him for the future hope he goes on to be the world class player he's capable of and I wouldn't be at all surprised if we regret this in the future

Sadio Mane: "I don't want to stay at Southampton
pimpin4rizeal replied to SaintLondon's topic in The Saints
Lukaku maybe as an example of recent times. Think he's on slightly higher wages 75k? Although I think we would get more value from abroad. We know countries like Italy Holland etc don't pay anywhere near our wages. -

What stopping us reinvesting the the whole transfer fee and wages of the player though. If we sell a schneiderlin for 25m+60k wages or whatever why not go and buy a 25m midfielder on 60 grand wages. This would be properly re investing in my opinion not packing the squad with a load of bargain basement signings. Replace quality with quality. It's not asking kat to **** away her money either as we are just spending what we sell. Also in advance I don't believe the hogwash about we couldn't attract a 25m player from we are paying him more wages then he is already on there's no reason he wouldn't want to come here -
Just a thought on our transfer business if we sell a player like schneiderlin for 25m+ 60k a week wages, Why can we not just go out and replace him for a simular priced player on same wages. I don't believe this rubbish about we can not attract a 25 million pound player if we are paying him more then he currently earns he will come.
