"noble"? Possibly, although my Portsmouth thesaurus also has "realistic", "relieved", "desperate", "resigned (adj)"...
-
Well, don't hold your breath; not with Pompey's payment record.
-
Oh mack! Come along to the youth match, by train, and we'll all buy you a pint! Pills is bad.
-
My windows are double-glazed but getting on a bit, although not a priority to upgrade. If I were to replace though I will certainly consider triple glazing as the price seems to have come down considerably, based on the leaflets I get through the door from a couple of local companies (not the big salespeople-"buy today for best price"-mob). Just a thought, oh, and uPvc doesn't need to be white..
-
Trust you to know! :-) PS: Will you be swelling the crowd at FP?
-
Nah, doubt it. The players couldn't influence a match that much. Besides with Pompey it would be the owners and managers involved..
-
He was polite and professional too, even though he was probably thinking "You must be joking, going to that crock of s**t."
-
How about Vanessa Raynbird? She currently coaches Portsmouth Ladies, who are doing a bit better than the men...

I'll be going back to visit friends in the Valle d'Aosta so will end up skiing at Pila, Courmayeur, La Thuile, Cervinia and maybe a few other places. I need to start letting people know when it might be possible to doss on their sofa or rent a flat from friends. I'm also owed about 7 day's ski pass for some translation work I did, so it'll all help keep the cost down.

I'm an English teacher, so thanks for the other example of a word used with a prefix but not without! Any more? :-)
-
We were indeed. We eventually got out and by smiling sweetly at the coppers I managed to get away from the herding down towards the station, which is just as well as I live to the East and my car was parked appropriately. Needless to say I'm not the colours wearing type but still felt a bit nervous as I walked down the back alley.

You need plenty of lubrication, Bearsy, that normally helps. If you find the right pub London prices aren't too bad..
-
That's interesting Bearsy. My 1964 edition of the Concise Oxford includes 'satiable; (rare)', but my more recent Compact Oxford doesn't include it at all!
-
Just seen this in The Guardian and came here to see if it had already been posted. Not much misses us, does it. :-)

You mean a "PTS" nutjob....
-
Shouldn't that be "template alert", as a homage to rallyboy?
-
It's probably a punishment. "Look son, you've got some ability, but if you don't pull your finger out that's the sort of place you'll end up at".. He's not going for the coaching, training facilities or standard of football so I reckon my theory is a reasonable one.
-
Bearsy enjoyed the firm hand too much?
-
True, but closer reading to the end required.... "it was confirmed that the tactical change from machine gun paragraphs had been an overwhelming success." Think I'll print Rallyboy's post out - watching England tonight and should be a blue few around in the social club.
-
Probably the bar takings in he Victory Lounge (see above), but of course this being them they'll take the turnover figure and not the profit after expenses (and er... tax).
-
How about adding... "We'll take on board all the negative feedback too" ??
-
:-) Nice one..
-
Let's be generous (we can afford to be), and remember that there were quite a few watching in comfort in the Victory Lounge, although due to general incompetence this was not generally known. Back to the videos: the football is the sort I'm quite familiar with from watching and playing down the local rec, with some errors even I would be embarassed to make. I've seen a bit of a Portsmouth Ladies' game this season, and they seemed far more competent.

I was there as I live out that way and I always thought Knight's long service was worthy of acknowledgement. Anyway, the score wasn't important and I don't remember really - thought it was 7 actually - but more typically Pompey was the fact that we were kept in the away end at the end of the match whilst Pompey fans proceeded to lob lumps of concrete over the wall. The police liaison officer in our midst said "oh, haven't seen some of these faces for a few years.." We were all in a holiday mood and good natured, and poor Alan Knight was so embarassed - bless 'im - and came over to apologise when we were kept in 'for our own safety' whilst the locals were dispersed..

Dear holepuncture, thanks for the quotes from CorpHo.. I didn't mean to impugn your own integrity when I queried the message you were passing on... just it's sometimes difficult to believe how stupid _they_ are! ;-)
