  1. C****t, that brings back memories. It's sad news: I can't remember indivdual games from that time, although I do remember a slightly overweight RDs in The Cowherds when I was a student at SU. I still play, and my defensive headers aren't bad, but if only I had the leap and the timing of big Ron. It's a shame he couldn't make it over these last few years: I think the roar from us old fogies would have delighted him no end.
  2. Thanks guys, keep us informed.
  3. So that should imrove the odds if you're betting on relegation?:-)
  4. What _are_ you talking about?
  5. Is that annual and including the stadium expansion? /ducks/ ;-) Any purchase of players is going to ammortised over more than a year, so depending on the capital cost versus wages we may well spend more than £30m on actual purchase costs. Bear in mind we're still catching up from being in L1 a very short time ago. We can certainly improve on this year's position with the existing players, even if that well-known footballing expert on this thread has written off Ramirez already... I wonder how the Astori transfer is coming along, I wonder if that will keep him happy?
  6. Surely it should be "my mate, who is a taxi driver"? Christ, it's going to be a long summer...
  7. Apart from the known factor of EPL clubs, I'm not sure there are that many clubs with lots more money. The Germans have bigger crowds (and presumably commercial receipts) but I don't know how their TV money compares. Italian and Spanish clubs are generally in the merda financially - I believe Cagliari for example were playing away from their home ground, for example - and their economies aren't helping! France has low crowds although they have their own citeh in PSG. To be honest I don't know how we compare, but it's certainly not a straightforward situation and makes things interesting.

As I'm ex-SSE I've a very nice share-holding, thank you, but that doesn't necessarily mean I agree with how the industry is currently structured, owned and regulated. In fact, apart from on a technical standards basis, I don't think the industry is regulated much at all from a financial standpoint. From a strategic point of view the vested self-interest of the companies rule: security of supply is not now the priority it was when the National Grid was set up. Nobody is going to build anuclear power station unless they are subsidised, and a lot of that subsidy will go to the shareholders and owners: often abroad. I can't remember which REC it was that ventured into the US market (in the Pacific NW IIRC) but withdrew with a bloody nose because the financial regulation over there was so much stricter than here in the UK.
  9. I just hope he can afford the match subs and doesn't have to take the kit home to wash too many times...
  10. Yeah, but he strikes me as a bit sensible, and not in to English waste money flash and trying to impress. Whatever happens in his football career you know he won't be one of those running out of money. I'd be interested to know the car he drives: I'd guess decent but not bling.
  11. Interesting, particularly that France has almost caught up with Italy. The economy here is in the deep merda, but it does indicate that there should be a few bargains on the player front and that Saints ought to be able to compete, even ignoring the television money.
  12. That's a team, that is. To lose a child is hard and my thoughts go out to the family.
  13. Haven't read the article yet, but it _is_ a Tory rag. It's not called the Daily Fail, Daily Wail, or Daily Heil for nothing! I think the second is the most apposite though.
  14. I wasn't going to post on this thread but that made me laugh as it was exactly what I was thinking..
  15. More Air India fun: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-22528431 Although my Dad qualified as an RAF pilot there were too many more experienced around at the end of the war so he ended up on the ground. On duty at Manchester when the Man United Elizabethan crashed at Munich, when a TWA (IIRC) did a wheels up at Fiumicino, and at Terminal 1 when the Staines crash occurred...
  16. The cold eyes of a shark... I'll watch the video later.
  17. Great idea; I've got a Fez somewhere... That should really get one of our well-known posters going...
  18. Incidentally, any clips of the goals?
  19. That's not Alpine: not fat enough.. Not long in: we had a late kick off and then I wandered home through town having a couple of glasses . Incidentally, we drew 1-1 too, which was pretty good considering we only had 10 players, have a massive pitch, it was bl***y hot, I was playing full back for the first time at 58 years old and they only scored with 5 minutes to go when our legs were all shattered. But I'm really positive about my two teams' results. I can't believe the other Saint who lives in the Alps actually took the effort to start a thread to really show what a segaiolo he is.
  20. Lowe asked the goalkeeping coach/scout to go and investigate Forecast. The reply was immediate: "he's cr*p" (or words to that effect). "How do you know?" asks Lowe. "It's my job" replies the scout.. and we _still_ gave him a 5 year contract. What WAS going on??
  21. Indeed! A degree of honesty though : "However, people need to understand how constrained we are.".... but no mention of the PFA charge.
  22. Ooh, a red...
  23. Not long in from teaching and missed the goal, but C****t, both teams are crap.
  24. Just as long as it wasn't PIA... now they're seriously frightening... Derry and co. may wish to comment..
