  1. Last year the first game in L1 was on the 8th August, so if this year's is the equivalent weekend it would be the 7th: ie the following Saturday in which case it would be the TBT I'd assume. But did they start earlier last year due to the World Cup - dunno?
  2. That would have been BArdolino, like the wine, talking of which it would be good for some winery visits. You've got Bardolino with their red, but the rose Chiaretto can be very refreshing, there's Bianco di Custozza and at the bottom of the lake Lugana which I reckon is about the only wine made by the high yielding Trebbiano to be worth drinking. Not far either from Soave and Valpolicella but spend a little more on those two as some of the stuff from the plains is awful. Er.. where were we, something to do with the red and whites, I think. Definitely a consensus for Northern Italy. Incidentally, it's not the heat that gets you, it's the humidity. Last season we played a game near Turin at the beginning of June due to winter postponements: I played a half and have never been so drained.
  3. What sort of crowds do BC get? I reckon RL must be getting a taste for 20 - 30k crowds now!
  4. Great story, Phil. We won't ask what happened in the end to your son! Oh yes, another fend-off the gigolo problem would be "Sorry, I'm a football player"..(which is true) or I suppose for a US cultural reference .. "Sorry, I'm a softball player". :-)
  5. Ta for that DB even if you can't be more explicit. If I were in that position (I presume there isn't such a big gigolo problem..) I'd just say, "Sorry, I'm an English teacher", and they'd leave for somebody else with money... Bit worried about they - "normally" - clear off!
  6. No. The PL punished them for going into administration. The FL will punish them for not having their CVA sorted out in time.:-) (And maybe also for numerous other reasons: unaudited accounts, shadow directors, and anything else that relates to the FL's need to guarantee why the club should be allowed their golden share.)
  7. They were actually taking the ****, although admittedly it's sometimes difficult to tell on this board!
  8. ..... or at least have some interesting insights.... http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/may/16/dubai-sex-tourism-prostitution Jeez, and they call the British hypocritical!
  9. Does anybody remember when the detailed CVA is going to be presented, and how long before it is voted on, how long the HMRC have before any potential appeal and by when do the FL need the CVA agreed if they are not going to deduct points? Gawd, it's confusing, but I think it's just about to get a lot more interesting.... Edit: I see the CVA is being presented on Friday.. still not sure of the rest of the dates.
  10. Thanks for that, and from all of us in various places in the world who don't get to see MOTD! It was also good to see the running off the ball, the number of players in the box and the following up so that when the ball ran loose it was a Saints player who got there first. When I last had a season ticket about 5 years ago all of those were notable for their absence.
  11. Brilliant. Sums up the fan's experience. LOL
  12. The problem is, we've all seen serious posts like this on the board!
  13. Ahh... just got it all off me chest on Chris Bevan's blog: if it gets past moderation... no reason why it shouldn't.
  14. Sheez, most of us have lost track of who has been a director at pimpley. Not sure they know either: Storrieteller obviously, but who else I really can't remember. Azougy, Al-mirage, some russian, a scared finance director (very briefly)? Any ideas, or shall we just ask HMRC to pay £5 and join the board so that they can contribute?:-))
  15. I reckon they are probably watching this thread over at HMRC. Probably not the seniors, but more junior (but probably still with-it staff) are scanning it, forwarding on some of the more amusing comments... "this one's near the mark", "gawd, he hasn't got a clue" and so-forth. I bet it's amusing them greatly!
  16. ****, lots of these warnings (like virus/scam warnings on the internet) can be pretty dubious, so a pox on the people who cry wolf if it results in others ignoring warnings which are actually valid.
  17. Well, as usual SRS is frothing at the mouth again. One of my nightmares would be being in in the same bedroom: knee jerk reactions and all the subtlety of a dog in heat! Anyway, Labour actually tightened up the situation as there was obvious abuse. But overall colleges like international students because they make money on them. Frankly the biggest problem is getting them up to an adequate level of English! They also come here and spend money here on accommodation, food, transport: I don't remember the latest figures but they make a massive contribution to our awful balance of payments figures.
  18. If it's here again, don't worry, I'd know! I've played on both of the pitches that were probably used, and certainly useful for preparation for L1. The St Vincent one is probably worse, although they might have relaid it since the last major match there - a touring international rugby side! Great area for a holiday, although I'll almost certainly be visiting the UK during pre-season.
  19. My women's side is still training but down to once a week and apart from the warm-up fun stuff, just to ease us gently into the holidays. We normal have a pre-season fitness schedule of 5 times a week for a couple of weeks pre-season. I already feel sluggish only doing one session (and no skiing) so that's going to be tough in August. Anybody need competent crew for their yacht, when my term finishes I have 3 months off?!!
  20. That haven't agreed the final CVA or whatever work of fiction Android comes up with, they have a less than enthusiastic owner who just wants his money back and finally, no official will suggest anything. It's a members club (including Leeds, Luton, Bournemouth, Saints, Hull, Burnley etc.) and they will, ultimately, dictate what the policy will be which the officials will THEN implement. As mentioned above, wait until June....
  21. Incidentally, have they sold all their tickets yet?
  22. Hammers have just sacked Zola, is that grist to the mill of this thread?
  23. Anybody know any Chelsea fans? Could you teach them the chant for Wembley: "Fratton Park is a future block of flats, future block of flats, future block of flats"

    Knees

You'll recover faster!:-) Joking aside, I thank my lucky stars I've had no major knee problems. Your physio should help with specific exercises. I once had an abductor (I think) go twang just after I'd come on as sub a few years ago (always warm up well folks!), against Southampton Red Star, but no problems since. I make sure I take the fitness side seriously, warm up well and do specific knee exercises at home - more for the skiing, but it helps footie too. Speedy recovery mush!
