  1. Years since I've been to Manchester so can't help on pubs but I do recall the decent prices and Joseph Holt's pubs delivering in larger barrels due to their turnover. In Southampton drinking in a 'spoons will save you £3 a pint, which is not to be sneezed at, but in Manchester I wouldn't bother unless a quick one on the way somewhere else.
  2. I have found you can get to see some football, but only after some 'really, well my word!?' moments.. I think Saturday comments are going to be less surprise, more cries of misery..
  3. Is it on telly? No? Good! And don't anybody get any ideas about posting dodgy stream links as I might click on it by mistake.
  4. I didn't realise that, he seems older, so perhaps there is room for improvement. He already has some of the basic attributes we've been missing.
  5. Oh heck! They have a very nice pint at £1.99 and somebody gave me some 50p off CAMRA vouchers...
  6. That'll teach me to ask a rhetorical question! 😉
  7. She doesn't like LGBTetc, mothers, civil servants, foreigners, anybody who is at all diverse, autistic etc. Who _is_ she appealing to?
  8. Just saw the reference to the Spurs game: bloomin 'eck, it's true! At least I should be able to make my afternoon game which is actually against a Southampton area team, but that is giving no thought to the fans. I've chatted in the pub to people who go to the games by bus, and they were complaining about Sunday during the day, so at that time they've no chance.
  9. https://www.theguardian.com/football/picture/2024/oct/15/david-squires-lawyerball-cartoon Oh, I do like David Squires, and this is a good one..
  10. This is the weekend where I spend my £15 on pre-match refreshments on beers in 'Spoons and as a result fall asleep in my seat, happily oblivious to the result..
  11. I haven't seen this link posted elsewhere on the board, so it might as well go here: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2024/oct/14/is-it-naive-for-a-promoted-side-to-play-possession-football-in-the-premier-league Some interesting comments. Personally I'd like to get the 7% up a little bit (only Spurs on less), just for variety's sake and to keep other teams something else to think about..
  12. LOL, my stream died at half time so I went off and spent my time more productively. A wise move, I now see!
  13. England showing all of Saints' faults, just with better players..
  14. Well, you can't beat getting a bit of air into your lungs by having a good laugh!
  15. Brentford have been scoring a bit, but I didn't realise how until I read this tongue in cheek football diary piece in The Guardian about how they'd also been losing: What a brilliant idea! The difference with our approach is that unlike Wolves our opposition are fully prepared for when we cough up the ball in our own half.
  16. Must admit similar thoughts here about Onuachu. Good to see Archer so clinical too. But all three goals conceded needlessly, it can't continue like this. Downes is looking overwhelmed. Although possession is better that not being in possession we seem to specialise in achieving that negative change, so why not do so further up the pitch? I've only just dipped in to the end of this thread so what's been said about VAR? They took their time, then showed a player who looked offside, drew a line which still showed him offside and then pronounced 'goal'.
  17. Does this mean you won't be supplying your normal dodgy stream link? Thank Christ!
  18. As I said to my friend I mentioned above, in view of Saints' situation I'm laughing ruefully with you, not at you! 🤣
  19. Message from my Portsmouth supporting team-mate: "I've bet £1 on 8-2 just so that I can make myself watch the rest of this :-)"..
  20. 5-1!
  21. Um... 3-1 according to my newspaper..
  22. Like we do when we try to short pass our way out.. so might as well try something different..
  23. PSG struggled to beat their press yesterday so gawd knows how we'll cope. Both teams did resort to long balls though, and you can see why it's not often the preferred option as it gave the ball back to the opposition on too many occasions. But I'd certainly like to see us trying it a bit more to beat the press. How to implement it and with whom in which positions is beyond my pay grade though.
  24. I didn't realise this site attracted so many masochists!
  25. Lovely! Fried in beef fat!
