  1. Councils have very little margin for discretionary spending these days, and their legal obligations to meet SEND and adult social care requirements (inter alia) are putting many councils, of all political colours, into danger of bankruptcy. But we can all agree that Southampton hasn't made best use of its assets, whether that's due to the council or ABP or developers wanting everything handed to them on a plate. The problem with the rail link is that to get to Central you'd have to do a back shunt from near the maintenance works on what is a busy stretch of line. But going straight out heading North would be easy enough, and take a very large proportion of the traffic. Particularly useful for away fans but not so good for business in town. Might be the sort of development if St Mary's were ever chosen again for an international tournament. The ticket sales seem to have held up remarkably in the circumstances, so there does seem to be a healthy underlying demand for tickets which must be the basis for any stadium expansion. Plus a few more tourists in Rento Takaoaka shirts will help the bottom line! It will be interesting to compare the crowd figures with our neighbours down the road..
  2. It's like Bolton but worse..
  3. Terms have been agreed. Does that include them actually paying us? I understand that with Orsic there was some confusion about which way the 3.5 million should go..
  4. Headline in the newspaper: We can dream about a few decent loans, can't we?!
  5. It's funny, but that phrase normally has positive connotations like "I'm looking forward to my holiday".. Needs a re-write, I feel.
  6. Pissing yourself laughing?
  7. This I think, and the OP did mention 'irrational dislike'. I can't get upset with players who end up out of their depth and just aren't very good. Paul Moody from Waterlooville, for example, who the club took a losing punt on. But players who don't put the effort in are towards the top on my list. Has David Speedie been mentioned yet?
  8. That makes sense, but I'd prefer AA to BBD; his effort and pressing alone would be the difference.
  9. With the additional bonus of fewer of CB Fry's ponderous attempts at sarcastic humour.
  10. Well, I hope they avoid doing it on match days. That was a right pain..
  11. I'm a Saints fan so bear with me. Does double figures mean 2?
  12. Looks like a standard CB Fry straw man argument, but I certainly can't be a**** to check..
  13. It's nice to remember Tadic and his football but I think most would agree that even if he wanted to come we probably wouldn't get our money's worth, which is something we've had to endure far too much recently. Russell Martin is reportedly said to have been surprised by the pace and physicality of the Premier League, which suggests that the collective years experience of this board would have been worth consulting.. My hope is that the new recruit we have, and the prospective recruits, have the pace and a level of physicality that will bear them in good stead if we get promoted, with another year's experience under their belts. Some of us remember VVD and the pace of his recovery runs in covering back, and we can only hope that Quarshie develops in the same way and that we actually pressure the opposition enough thatthe need to demonstre his abilities comes from a good place.
  14. Does it depend which ferry you're nearer to? Most caulk heads came from the East of the island!
  15. When St Mary's was built a condition was that all tickets would have a public transport bus ticket included. This fell by the wayside of course when the club fell on hard times, but there is no reason such a condition could not be reinstated. Free rail tickets to Totton, Swanick, Eastleigh, Romsey (?) would also all help with traffic. Was it this thread or another where a poster was complaining about cycle lanes and speed limits? Mate, it's a city, and if you are in a jam you are part of what makes that jam. I've dropped people off for the cruise ships and it's a pain, and occasionally I drive to the match, but I'm under no illusions that traffic is worse just because of the odd cycle lane or 20 mph limit. Southampton is a waterside city but you'd often be hard pressed to know. I'd love for there to be a jetty where you could be dropped off by a water taxi straight from the IOW ferry or Hythe, or a mate with a RIB!
  16. That's possible, but the improved chance of going up might loosen the purse strings. If there's only one team that looks like making it after the beginning of the season there isn't much incentive to invest, or as a player push yourselves and risk injury for nothing. Edit: SNAP
  17. Before or after? 🙂 I've played 5 a side against Rallyboy of this parish but I reckon he'd make a better rugby player, so I know how she might be feeling. 🙂 👋
  18. Maybe it's a 'fat bastard size' shirt as that's one of the most common demographic for sales?
  19. Does @Pilchards still hide in that tree?
  20. So does Nathan Jones: he managed in the Premier League, don't you know?
  21. Not really. In certain situations at certain imes he'd be useful, no doubt, but he just doesn't have the fitness or mobility for the general play Still likes. Most of the time he'd not be quick enough to be there for the balls into the box, and Stewart would be better for that role. As to what we might get for our £5m, more than we have in the past.. Did we really pay £8m for Orsic as mentioned above? I constantly see posts on here which remind me of our depressing recent past..
  22. Nobody has commented about Scotland's 3-1 home defeat to Iceland, although I've only read the match report. Their first choice keeper is Angus Gunn, and after he went off injured their sub was even worse apparently. If Bazunu did end up there he'd only have competition from other non-Scottish players, it would seem, as Scotland don't train keepers any more..
  23. Aren't you being a little optimistic? Middle third?
  24. Do they pay a car allowance? If not, blow 'em and point out how cost conscious you are.. 🙂 Then take a bottle of Krug to the board meeting for afterwards and mutter and mumble something like 'priorities, priorities'..
