Exactly, by helping the U.S. destroy Iraq our country has created the problem that exists today. Quote below: In order to understand why the Islamic State has grown and flourished so quickly, one has to take a look at the organization’s American-backed roots. The 2003 American invasion and occupation of Iraq created the pre-conditions for radical Sunni groups, like ISIS, to take root. America, rather unwisely, destroyed Saddam Hussein’s secular state machinery and replaced it with a predominantly Shiite administration. The U.S. occupation caused vast unemployment in Sunni areas, by rejecting socialism and closing down factories in the naive hope that the magical hand of the free market would create jobs. Under the new U.S.-backed Shiite regime, working class Sunni’s lost hundreds of thousands of jobs. Unlike the white Afrikaners in South Africa, who were allowed to keep their wealth after regime change, upper class Sunni’s were systematically dispossessed of their assets and lost their political influence. Rather than promoting religious integration and unity, American policy in Iraq exacerbated sectarian divisions and created a fertile breading ground for Sunni discontent, from which Al Qaeda in Iraq took root.

The international community need to take this thing more seriously, air strikes on their own is going to achieve very little. The problem is there is little political will in the US and UK after Iraq and no one else is ever arsed about anything.
-
He's got a point, by invading Iraq the British government effectively created ISIS.

Most big clubs have a history of winning stuff but having won stuff years ago doesn't make a club big, just more successful. A bit irrelevant in this thread though because Liverpool are bigger, more successful, richer and better than Saints. -

No, this thread is about America's gun problem. Police having guns is not the main problem (although it appears how and when they use them is an issue). The UK police have guns because in some circumstances an armed response is appropriate. The problem in the US is f*ckwits, criminals and the mentally disturbed being able to easily get their hands on a stockpile of guns designed for military use and as much ammo as they please - that's the heart of the problem.

The Greek government have a duty to do what's best for the people of Greece, not what's best for a bunch of bankers or pension funds from anywhere else. If you lend money to people who cannot afford to pay it back that is your own fault. Greece should just leave the Euro and just print their own cash and go back to having zero debt. The UK is doing Ok because we just printed **** loads of money, let Greece do the same, screw the banks.
-
They should just blow off the debt and use the Drachma again, would be painful in the short term but better long term. All this debt is just numbers on a computer screen anyway. Sooner or later every will just have to blow it off. There is no way the UK, US or anyone will pay off such ridiculous amounts. How long have we had austerity? We haven't even come close to start thinking about breaking even yet alone paying any of it off.

That's what we are doing with thousands of people who come here from various sh!t holes across Europe, not sure why there is such an uproar about a relatively few people in Calais.
-
No u turn, I think anyone who has travelled that far to better their lives must have something about them and certainly be more likely to be motivated enough to want to get a job. Read the Huffington link above.
-
Maybe they can't get work in France and see England as a better opportunity. Either way they are no different to the thousands of Polish who rock up each week, except they have browner skin of course.
-
But if someone has the ability to work and save enough money to pay smugglers to get them out of some African sh!t hole, has the motivation and ability to travel through war zones, across seas, through Europe and sneak covertly across the English channel - surely they are more likely to want to work and better themselves than someone who just has to jump on a bus from Poland to get their benefit windfall?
-
Why do you assume the people in Calais will contribute f*ck all and the people from Europe will all be hard workers?
-
I don't have a problem with helping genuine asylum seekers. We should get out the EU, get control of our borders so we can help more people like this instead of having mass immigration from Europe.
-
Saving peoples lives at sea is different to wanting to let everyone who wants to into the UK. All the hype about these people at Calais is a bit of a joke considering the amount of people who waltz into this country from all over Europe each year. Why are People getting so upset - is it because they are brown?

Which club is better: Liverpool, Tottenham, Southampton, or Swansea
aintforever replied to Redslo's topic in The Saints
This read is ****ing embarrassing, we did not even finish above Spurs or Liverpool in the league, **** knows what criteria you dimwits are using to decide who is the better club. Even Swansea have won a major trophy in recent memory which is more than us. -
We can't have limits as long as we're in the EU. I'm not bothered by people jumping in the back of trucks or risking their lives crossing the Med in fishing boats because firstly their numbers are a **** in the ocean compared to the amount of people that waltz in from the EU, and secondly, anyone going through those lengths to get here are probably much less likely to want to just sit on their asses and collect benefits compared to someone who just caught a bus from Poland.

You dumb f@ckers need to change this 'good guys v bad guys' mentality. Life is not that simple, you're not living in a spagetti western. It is obviously a complicated problem given America's history and culture but there is no excuse for not even trying to sort the problem out. It would take generations to get the situation any where near as good as in the UK but it can be done. A gradual tightening of the laws over decades and maybe when some teenager loses his mind 50 years from now it ends up with someone being stabbed and an arrest not a multiple murder and suicide. Just make a start by making assault rifles illegal, just doing that would probably save a few lives.
-
If these people are " greedy" as you they sound exactly like your sort of people. It's typical of people today that they are more concerned with the thought of these people landing in their country than why they are so desperate to leave the lives they have that they risk almost certain death.
-
So someone is desperate enough to escape their poverty they are willing to cling to the undercarriage of a jumbo jet for 10 hours, they plunge to their death after enduring hours of freezing temperatures an little oxygen and you have no sympathy at all. Wow! You're a pleasant chap.
-
That's what I find so amazing about the whole situation over there. The democratically elected government seem powerless to even try to do anything about the whole mess. I don't want to drag up the whole dumb yank stereotype again but **** me it's not rocket science, if less people have access to guns less people will die. They either don't give a sh!t, are too thick to grasp the concept or there is something seriously wrong with the democratic system which means the will of the people is ignored.
-
I expect the main reason for them being so desperate to leave is what's happening in their home country. Trying to cross the Med in an over-crowded, ****ged out old fishing boat is near suicide even with a few navy boats hanging around.

Fixtures out tomorrow - who will we get first game?
aintforever replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
They are probably wrong, I expect Bournemouth will be away because they are having work done to their ground as well. That should mean we are home.
