Would explain why Miss L wanted a bit more control. It doesn't take many of those sort of signings to ruin a club the size of Saints.
-
Pointless banging on about it though Cortese has decided to bugger off to better things and left us with the guy from Deloite to carry things forward.
-
Even if you are promoting the club as modern and forward thinking our history does add value to the SFC brand. Obviously our history is not as rich as some clubs but it adds value, just like a few trophy wins a hundred years or so ago adds to the image of clubs like Portsmouth or Preston North End. For example if Coventry hadn't had that spell in the top flight and won the FA Cup your perception of them as a club would be very different. History and tradition are a huge part of the identities of British football clubs.
-
But you are not going to maximise revenue by alienating supporters and local businesses, fighting with the media instead of utilising it and discarding the club's history instead of using it to enhance the brand. Many of Corteses' petty actions flied in the face of the professionalism you say is so important.

No different to a crack addict feeling alive when they shoot up. Just as sad.

I just find it depressing that someone can value their life so little. His mother looks like a complete idiot as well, making out she couldn't force him to go to school etc. she's probably to blame.
-
Yeah, because you have to stop one to do the other.
-
Cortese would have known football finances inside out before he came to Saints. Hiring someone just because they are a banking is a f*cking retarded idea IMO.
-
Yep, been done before, it was when we actually sold out the corporate areas.
-
Yeah, because you can't embrace your history and look to the future at the same time.

I think saying we're not for sale probably means we're not for sale.

Great news. Just need to hire a new bloke to sign the cheques and were sorted.

Global warming really is happening... (well, duh!)

But quieter periods usually mean lower temperatures. What is your explanation for the recent warming? -

The longest-running temperature record is the Central England temperature data series, that started in 1659. The longest-running quasi-global record started in 1850. The point is something has made the last decade warmest on our records whilst the sun is cooling. What do you think the reason is? -
If Cortese was planning something, the one thing you can guarantee is that the staff at SFC would know jack sh!t about it. To be honest I'm not bothered what happens. If anyone was to buy the club chances are they are going to have a decent amount of cash. If the Leibherrs want to keep it and hire another CEO - great. If Cortese comes back with a super-rich owner - fine.

Why do you think this last decade has been the warmest on record whilst the sun is going through an unusually inactive phase? -
Looks a foul to me. It's one of those ones where the defender knows even if he touches it he is on his arse so has to take out the attacker to be sure of stopping the opportunity.

Post Match Reaction: Sunderland 2-2 SAINTS
aintforever replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
That we 2 points thrown away, great performance first half but should have put the game to bed then. Good to see that Cortese leaving appears to have had absolutely zero effect on the players who looked up for it and played some great stuff. -
Benali and Le Tissier welcome anywhere in SMS
aintforever replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
Cortese had it in for Le Tiss from day one because of the Pinnacle thing, as custodian of the club he should have acted in a more professional manner and shown some respect to a club legend. Both Le Tiss and Benali have been treated shabbily, the fact that the club have now contacted Benali to say he is welcome says everything. -
Bristol City have potential. They average over 10K and considering the garbage they have been watching and the state of their ground that is not bad. Invest in the ground and get some decent footie played there and it could take off.

You cannot argue that Cortese did a fantastic job but I think Martin Samuel was spot on in saying we were mismanaged and Leibherr's money just restored natural order. Looking at the squad we had in League 1, my Nan could have got us promoted in 2 seasons. Going straight through the Championship was a great achievement though and the two seasons in the Prem have been well managed. Delia Smith has done the same without a billionaires backing though so to say Cortese is not replaceable in complete nonsense.
