Because anyone with a brain can see the troubles of that period were completely the fault of the racist, oppressive government, not the poor sods trying to fight for freedom. If we were denying the Iraqi people the vote because of the colour of their skin and he was trying to change that - and succeeded in creating a peaceful, democratic Iraq then yes - he should be applauded. Any blood spilt would be on the hands of the British government.
