Where did Cork say Watford wanted him more? Never heard that one before? Can't believe he would come out and say that. -
He will have developed transfer window flu/guts ache by the time the squad for Barnsley travel north!!!!

If, if, if. If we had scored 5 more goals we would go up to something like 18th in the goals scored table, and if we had conceded 5 less we would move up to 17th in the goal against table. What all those stats say is that it's not just the fact we need to score, they show that from almost every angle we are in the relegation zone. Our main problem this season is that we're just not very good.

Three - Norwich, Charlton & Watford. We are 21st with regards goals against. We are 23rd with regards goals for. We are 23rd with regards current league position. We are 23rd with regards current form (8 games). We are 24th with regards current form (6 games). We are 20th with regards our record against the top half. We are 23rd with regards our record against the bottom half. We are 22nd with regards keeping a clean sheet. We are 22nd with regards our ability to score first. It's all relative I suppose.

You like cutting and pasting don't you? I suppose at least this time around you've credited the original author;)

Agree with alot of that and if there was one overiding factor for him being back this time, then I would say it is EGO. He's still bitter that he was forced out, he believes he is the only one capable of turning this around and he will do exactly as he wants. And this is why I am more worried this time around, because for me when ego's are involved, then very often people's decison making becomes blurred & not focussed, and they will plough on rather than admit they made a mistake.

Or of course our relegation rivals could all be laughing at us and Derby for some ridiculous managerial appointments. Step back for a second and have a think about what Doncaster, Forest, Barnsley and Blackpool fans were thinking when we unveiled Poortvliet:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

And it's a wild guess that has no substance whatsoever. Pearson was clear before he was sacked that he was aware of the financial constraints he had to work under, the fact that more youngsters would have to be played and that many higher earners would have to be shipped out. When he met Lowe there was no disagreement or disillusionment over having to pursue a more frugal strategy. In fact when it got back to him that people (and a few know exactly who I mean by this) were suggesting he would not have been prepared to work under the new regime and it's tight budget, he was rather upset!!!!! I don't think you'll find that individual repeating that allegation in public. That's exactly what he thought, in that he believed these Dutch guys would be more successful working within the strategy he wanted to follow. I have to say there is nothing wrong with having that opinion, but it was a footballing decision and one he will have to stand or fall by. The financial situation certainly set the environment for a new manager to work in, but it did not dictate that we had to go for Poortvliet. There is no reason to suggest that Pearson, Clough, Cotterill, Holmes or another manager could not have worked within the same constraints. You're quite right in stating that it is impossible to judge whether Pearson would have delivered more given the same resources and restrictions (but I doubt you'd find many who think he would have done any worse), but I have to say it's ludicrous to suggest that Pearson was not prepared to work within those constraints. The lack of cash certainly dictates what we cannot afford, but it certainly did not dictate that we had to ditch Pearson and go for an unknown Head Coach and this "Revolutionary Coaching Set Up". Are you really suggesting that Poortvliet was the only manager we could have appointed, and this was due to our financial position?

I agree with you there Chez, in that at any Club the manager has to be the top man and no player should be talking out of line. The board should always back the manager over a player (as Lawrie was backed a number of times during his tenure). BUT what it does show is that there is some disunity and unrest in the dressing room which is very worrying and often ends up eating up any club. -
I'm with you on this one C B Fry in that I think it could be good news for us as I'm also not convinced about this appointment. Our equivalent would be going for Nick Holmes, and as much as I admire what he has achieved at Salisbury, I wouldn't want him as first choice to replace Jan.

I was going to post an "Is Saga free to play Saturday Thread???", but it looks as though the Echo have cleared up the matter, and as I thought the OS has been economical with the truth (once again). I have no problem with the dilemna the Echo sets out that the Club are facing (personally if we're not looking to bring anyone else in, then I would try and keep Saga for the rest of the season, but I can also see the other side of the argument), BUT why did they have to lie and dress it up with "the paperwork hasn't come through?". Treat the fans with contempt and it will soon blow up in your face. How about trying to be honest with them for a change? http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/4022102.Saints_in_quandary_over_Saganowski/

Are we the only team who can't sack our manager, regardless of the results?

I don't know about that. There were calls for Wigley and Gray to go as well (although he did capitulate in the end)!!!!! -
Would you BOYCOTT? Ways to get rid of Lowe and the board
um pahars replied to Wes Tender's topic in The Saints
Come off it. You don't need to know the full details of the comparable packages to get a good gut feel on this one. If we were only ever dealing in facts, then nothing would ever be discussed on here. But as you say he would have done it anyway and money was not the motivator, a new footballing strategy was. A strategy that Lowe will have to stand or fall by. -

With all due respect, I would probably put Jan in the same category as Gray & Wigley etc etc etc who should never have got the job in the first place. There is nothing to suggest we are improving, in fact I would argue exactly the opposite having not won in 10 games or so. -
I can see us getting 4 points (1 at Barnsley & 3 v Donny). Charlton and Donny have a fairly tough few games, whereas Forest have a relatively easy run. I fear Forest could pull away, so we need someone to fall back into the pack. Problem is we have Norwich away, so they can pull away, so we may be looking elsewhere. This month could see us cemented at the bottom with Charlton and Donny, so therefore we probably have to be getting more than my 4 points to stay in there. Charlton Forest (h) Sheff Wed (a) Palace (h) Possible 2 - 4 points Doncaster Bristol City (h) Saints (a) Sheff Utd (a) I can see 1 to 3 points Forest Charlton (a) Plymouth (h) Sheff Weds (h) Potential of 4 - 7 points

Whilst I concur that as age and continually being shortchanged have made me less demanding of a Saints victory every time I visit St Mary's, I do have to take exception with your line above. Whilst I can understand how you appreciated the football from United which was flowing, classy, passionate and embracing, I fail to see how you could appreciate almost anything we served up! Have your standards lowered with age as well?

that he thought it would be better is not a problem for me. If that's what he thought, then as the man in charge that's up to him and he will be judged by its success or failure. But I don't get the cheaper bit. I bet the disparity between Wotte/Poortvliet and Pearson isn't that much. Even if it is a six figure sum (and I dont think it's even that big), then in the grand scheme of things that's not a lot to ensure you've got the best man. And there is nothing in anything that Pearson has ever said to suggest that he was not willing to play the youngsters, nor that he was not willing to lose some of the higher paid earners (see the comments from him above). He was acutely aware of the financial constraints he would have to operate under and I quite frankly if Lowe held the purse strings, then he would have no other option but to work to his budgets.
