This. If you know going in which players will not last, then you pick a squad in preparation of the substitutions. It's incompetence not to. Just like it's incompetence to not recruit for a squad, and to freeze out players who could do a job right up the spine (Aribo). With 3 at the back already, sacrificing attack for defence needlessly, knowing the flaws we have, was madness. Still pretending it's because Scienza can't play three games is missing the point. To then get Charles injured, when the same thing applied to him, just makes his comments worse. Fraser moving to Scienza's position with Downs or Oyekunle coming on. Oh look, we're not abandoning our whole attack, resulting in more pressure on Charles' position. If Charles also struggles to play 3 games, then that's why Bragg is on the bench. If, like Oyekunle, Still is hesitant, then there's Edwards or at that point Stephens (but really Edwards). But not Stephens on first! -

After AA missed his one on one chance, I was thinking that was far too close to winning. Far better to sacrifice even more of an attack than usual to bring on Cap'n Shoehorn. With yet another error prone defensive player on the park, we immediately gave up all forward momentum, resulting in a soft equaliser. Charles had to go off through injury. Fortunately, that didn't completely derail the entertainment of Will Still's Tombola of Subs. We immediately lost any sense of shape and looked like 11 strangers when the 2nd soft goal went in. We were never anywhere near getting back into it. So Wellington's straight red made zero difference. An utter shambles of a performance from a club priding itself on leading with incompetence from Solak all the way down. -

Oh sure, I've been a fan of the Rate of Indecisive Passes against Goals we could have scored, since Martin's first training session. -

Yes, I am optimistic we will win. I can easily think of us drawing or losing. Another normal match day. 🙂 -
Same time at the station later?

I remember it being trotted out by Brighton, as a reason to not sack their manager. Their xG was high. Despite not scoring lots of goals and hovering above the relegation zone, they saw the solution in ringing in more clinical strikers and improving that element. Since then, every club and manager trots it out in the face of disaster and to ward off sackings. Media obsession with a single stat doesn't help. The above fails to take into account that this wasn't the only thing Brighton looked at; they knew what they were doing; had a clear plan on where they wanted to be; could build a squad to support it; didn't employ Rasmus; led rather than followed all of it including on resale around a core for sustainability. SR are sad bandwagon jumpers by comparison. -

Although, if it's hard, then that's a bit of a giveaway should the first sentence be ignored.

Thierry Small and Ings both came on around 60minscin the PNE v Sheff Utd games. Small made an immediate impact, operating as a left wing back. He got a decent pass in, followed by losing possession and then a tame shot. As Utd pushed to get an equaliser, he dropped back a bit. His air clearance nearly gifted Utd their goal. But he looked to pick out an attacking pass, that Martin would have moved him out the club for. It didn't reach it's target. But PNE won the next ball resulting in Smith missing a sitter. A shift in momentum Martin would never understand, and a good spot from Small. Ings had less sight of the ball. Preston worked really hard all game. In the closing stages, he fell over to not get a penalty and put a last second free kick over the bar. But you could see him lurking in the middle, just waiting for a ball. He had a decent couple of touches to get things moving further back, but not much in front of goal, mainly due to service. Small a wing back much better forward than back, who looks to have bulked up a bit. Ings an impact sub, but still with that eye for goal.

The Beeb's Euro football spent some time talking about where Juve have apparently fallen to over recent years behind the scenes. They could well be open to being fooled by/ buy into someone with Spors background as being the solution.

We now have wide players who can aim for his nose.

It's a matter of time before we all end up being recruited to the forums of bigger clubs.

Totally understand the cynical view of the victims. I've no idea of who has been involved or the scope of discussions they've had to this point. Nor on the source of any advice they've had. From what I gather, some of the victims raised concerns. For Phillips to use the word "untrue" regarding people who have been dismissed repeatedly by those in authority over decades, could reasonably be taken very badly. Such is the nature and length of the abuse and lack of action across any number of abuse allegations, it's no wonder that there's pressure on the scope. However, that pressure shouldn't be coming from authority, regardless of their concerns over resources, timing etc. It's been over many decades, so there's not a political party or authority that gets to score points. Where someone has concerns about ethnicity being pushed aside, using "untrue" isn't a great way of reaching a common consensus. Likewise for those concerned about the presence of police and social services on running it. This isn't the first enquiry where there's been tone deafness on who best to be chair. It's reasonable that some victims don't trust anyone connected with the services that repeatedly let them down, be in charge.

Yet SR would have us believe they're shrewder than a whisker of Shrewsbury supporting shrews.

If by "masterclass" you mean delusional arrogant charade, I think you're onto something there. 🙂

He's got a hat just waiting to be thrown in to the ring. 🙂

So he's already been working on having things in common with our club. That's the sign of a top coach. 🙂

Apparently the Bristol City boss got 10 or 11 goals out of him at Koln. Hopefully the focus of Still's post match manager catch up. Completely agree about their Armstrong. His limitations are obvious and his own club are expecting more goals. Yet, the benefit of just having someone to win a challenge, hold it up for a second, create space for others. Any number of players would have offered us at least that. But SR are smarter, as they've been in every window since they took over. Maddening.

With his first touch, he took the ball down but gave it away in doing so. He gave it away a couple of times. But at least 1 was an attempted decent pass. Can't recall him winning a challenge. He didn't seem likely to either. So not offered anything from deep lying positions or from being a target in the box. He did pop up centrally in front of the keeper once, although we didn't get it to him. We're just a mess. We've no idea how to get anything out of him. And he doesn't offer much to the things we've tried. But we don't try anything consistently for anyone up front to build momentum and opportunities.
