Stoke's view-on-us on our view-on-them...and it's goodnight from me and goodnight from him. http://oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/thread/277354/southamptons-view-on I'm beginning to think this could be the worst game ever witnessed on an English football pitch. 5-5 it is then.

Although some of us just wouldn't have used it anyway, I really can't believe the club haven't laid on free coach travel for this for those that would. After the p*sstake over the date delay, stupid early start for those travelling and live on the box, they should have put on buses...and could've even helped out their own fans for a change with this 'Away Supporters Fund'. Stoke will be bussing down 2,000 fans this weekend for free (they also only pay £20 for a visitors match ticket at SMS) and they do that for every away game. If Swansea is rearranged in the next few weeks that will be 5 away games in a row coming up.

Coldest you've ever been at a Saints game
alehouseboys replied to JackanorySFC's topic in The Saints
I'm thinking he meant Feb 1991 because I was there and yes, it was like sitting in a f'kin fridge. I remember the weather changed dramatically once we hit the snowy midlands and by the time we reached Sheffield it was freezing fog and amazed it was still on. Rinsed 4-1 or something. I'd also agree about the evening game at St Mary's with Sheff Utd a few years back, my old knees have never really recovered. -
We played them home and away in the Texaco Cup in 1974. We bet them 3-1 up at Ibrox but they still bought 5,000 roaring drunks down for the second leg and they were intent on fighting anything in front of them. There were thousands of heavily drunk, very noisy lumps, most of us just looked on in admiration! It was fantastic support and despite losing 2-0 again on the night they decided to turn their attentions after to Scotland beating the English 2-0 a few months earlier at Hampden in the Home Internationals. We later lost the final to Newcastle.

United had some right b'stards following them around in the 70s but it was their sheer weight of numbers that used to overwhelm towns they were playing in back then. They swamped Wembley in 76 and when they then drew us in the FA Cup the following season it was always going to be ugly after humiliating them several months earlier. There were thousands in Southampton that weekend with loads locked out of the Dell. As well as the mancs, there were massive mobs of Cockney and Bristol Reds to deal with and they were just intent on maurauding where ever they went. The next time we played them in 1978-79 once we were promoted, a bit of revenge was in the air for some, particularly The Warrens but the OB were also well prepared this time and kept everything mostly wrapped up.

Well, I’m ‘kin amazed this sold out over 2 weeks before the game, I know we’ve only taken the 1,600 allocation but that’s keen for what’s on offer.

FA Cup Qtr Final Saints v Wigan or Man City AWAy
alehouseboys replied to John Boy Saint's topic in The Saints
No doubt Ralph and Les are hammering on the door at FAHQ right now demanding to know why they're taking the p*ss of Saints fans. Luckily for us, Wigan is just around the corner so travel arrangements are nothing to worry about. -
I'd agree with you but the-word-on-the-street is there's another on the way. So what d'ya think, orange, turquoise, pink....?
-
So what colour is our new 4th kit going to be for the Newcastle trip?

FA Cup Qtr Final Saints v Wigan or Man City AWAy

In recent seasons we've had lunchtime kick-offs away t Manchester City and f'kin Sunderland for TV, I think travelling fans rank fairly low on their decisions. -

You can throw Man U V Brighton into the mix too, potentially 9,000 Brighton fans also travelling up from the south coast if they take their full entitlement. A few fixtures to juggle. -
If they can put out of their heads that they're playing probably their easiest game in the cup so far they'll be firm favourites but complacency could be Wigan's biggest danger Right now I'm struggling to shake Sheff Utd away in the League Cup quarters from my mind but we have to be happy with this. I would think they'll be big demand for these tickets and good price, they were cheap last night for a glamour local derby but still didn't come close to a sellout, so should be cheap again.

FA Cup Qtr Final Saints v Wigan or Man City AWAy
alehouseboys replied to John Boy Saint's topic in The Saints
Don't agree. Man Utd were flying that season finishing 4 points off the title and were playing some fantastic football. We were a mid-table second division side, no one gave us a hope and Bobby Charlton famously stated United would score at least 6. We only lost at City a few weeks ago in added time that shouldn't have happened, they'll going for the title and CL, we've got a chance. How many regretted not going to Anfield for the semi last season? If Swansea is rearranged in the same period, that will be 5 games away in a row, maybe the club should throw in free travel to City for those that want it. -

May 1st 1976 was a tougher ask. -
Is he back from his holibobs yet? TBF, he deserved a few weeks off after that hectic transfer window.
-
"Come in a taxi, you could've come in a taxi......." TBF, overpaid 'professional' footballers really are out of f'kin touch with the people that spend their hard-earned contributing to their privileged pampered lifestyles. Bottom of the league and they're treated to a luxury break in Barcelona. Where did it all go wrong?
-
But what about the 5 pledges? From the guy who's made lots of wedges It's a bit of a mess And soon we'll be worth less Than a packet of Benson & Hedges next.......
-
"There’s a guy who points at it every season and has been wrong for the last nine years, even he will be correct this time" Yep, excellent work once again from the Rallyboy and a lovely touch with that nod to you-know-who on here.
-
This was all sold out this morning for us, West Brom have only shifted around 12k home tickets so far so probably could pick up homies if desired.
-
Probably the same as last time, the price will stay the same but they'll say you're getting more (dross) games for you money, so there's your reduction. Norwich, who went don with us, got it right, massive reduction on their ST prices and they retained 100% of their ST sales. We immediately dropped 5k - It will be a considerably bigger drop this time.

Swearing at SMS .... tolerable or offensive ?
alehouseboys replied to manina-pub's topic in The Saints
That could help the more faint-of-heart of our support choose the most suitable area. Northam: The C***s Stand - home/away c***s only. Itchen/Kingsland: The Doddery Old F**kers Stand. Chapel: The Boring Old B*st*rds Stand. No confusion there. Reminds me of back in the early 80s when Cloughie had a banner displayed on the pitch in front of their Trent End "Gentlemen, No Swearing Please. Brian". A week or so later, SFC got in on the act and put one in front of the Milton saying something like, "No Banners Needed at The Dell. Lawrie" (other than sticking a big banner up to say it!), I think it was roundly received with with a chorus of F's, C's and W's. -
Can any Yorkshire Saints help out Steve Moran?

That works out a fiver for just about every Saints fan there that day. Worth every penny. Any excuse..... -

I'd refer a bear-pit of an atmosphere myself, but most of the St Mary's crowd are far too polite, if you look at many of the comments on that Echo article it pretty much confirms it! One things for sure, you'll only be hearing Liverpool fans on TV on Sunday as Sky know what's coming from the Northam and will have 'home' mics switched off! -
A3 was on sale this morning and around half of that section left, this will be sold out in next few days.
