  1. Ah. That makes more sense, both as a comment in itself, and as typical Sherwood bitterness too. Personally I really want to win this, not just because of Pochettino, but also because Spurs irritate immensely by their over-rating of themselves. Yes, they're an established PL club, not one of the real big boys any more. Definitely behind Chelsea and Arsenal in London, behind bloody Liverpool too, and nowhere near the 2 Manchester clubs in status. Overall comparable to clubs like Everton, Newcastle or Villa IMO ... Though admittedly better than Newcastle at the moment!
  2. Helps him fill column space doesn't it? I mean one piece tipping is for relegation then another saying sorry = 2 easy bits of 'journalism' Wait it to see how we start the season before spouting usual drivel = no piece in paper = got to find some other drivel to write instead
  3. It's a strange sort of democracy though, when the views of a mere 1.6 million people (the total yes vote) in part of the country appear to have caused major constitutional change to the other 50-60 million, who have had no say in the matter. It makes you wonder what would happen if there was a referendum for independence for England, leaving the 'rump' UK as Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales. What sort of promises would be made to stop a yes vote there?
  4. I'm not sure that frites sauce ( fritesaus? - however it is spelled) is exactly the same as mayonnaise, if that is any comfort Bearsy. I think it is a tiny bit sweeter, in the form that you get from street vendors at least. But if you want weird, I knew a bloke who used to put mayonnaise on his fish and gravy on his chips, on the same plate, where the two would gradually meet and merge. Revolting! Anyway. Good to read the article about our Big Ron. Maybe we should club together and get some authentic fritesaus sent over for him?
  5. Seem to recall Beckham saying how much he disliked coming to the Dell, also because the crowd were right on top of you. At one stage I had a season ticket for a seat on the very front row. It was so close you could smell the embrocation as the players ran out. But nostalgia aside, the Dell was well past it by the time we moved, and far too small for a top division side.
  6. There was someone collecting before the game as we walked down from the footbridge, and others by some of the turnstiles
  7. Don't want to start an argument, but can anyone clarify for certain which of the interpretations of 'option to buy' is correct? Does it (a) just mean that the 2 clubs have agreed a fee in advance and the potential buying club can decide whether to go ahead IF the player agrees to terms etc, or (b) not only have the clubs agreed but also the player has agreed in advance and MUST sign if the buying club wants him?
  8. No offence mate, but this is a daft question till we've seen them play a few times.
  9. That was my initial reaction too, but then I realised that in fact many of the players are away, and for example I think Koeman said that Mane wouldn't even come to the club (for the first time ever!) until early next week, so only 4 days or so before the next game. Still, that's the price we pay for signing internationals .
  10. catchy, but it does conjure up a rather unpleasant mental image! "we've got Al de weireld in our team" is a little less pornographic!
  11. But what about the wages? It' s not just about the fee. A good deal for Arsenal nonetheless, and good to see spurs being snubbed.
  12. Probably old news, if indeed correct.
  13. Lots of legal documents are sent as PDFs though. I'm always surprised that the players seem to have to come to the club in person to sign. At worst, you'd thnk they could use couriers when ,for example, a player is with his national team as many are today.
  14. carefully? Wikipepdia etc give the .dutch pronunciation, but although he has spend a lot of his career in Holland, he is actually Belgian, where he may or may not use the the similar Flemish , or may have a French background. So in short, I have no idea! But I'm pretty sure Dave Merrington will research it thoroughly ;-)
  15. The question is , did he actually miss his flight or did he "miss his flight" ?
  16. Plus the cost of a programme, travel and any refreshments. The Premier League is pricing itself out of the market. Unfortunately they don't really care , as they make all the real money from TV, and the fans are effectively just 'atmosphere' for theRV audience.
  17. Maybe. Personally I reckon there's still a good chance of us signing a winger. I just hope it is someone I've actually heard of! And if we do get an attacking player of reasonable quality, then overall the squad won't look too bad. The main problem won't be the quality of the individual players - more the fact that they haven't played together and aren't yet a team.
  18. doesnt make a lot of sense. I don't know him, but if he is not good enough to have a regular starting place at Stoke, he is unlikely to have one with us. He's more likely to be a squad player and substitute. So if his motive to move is to get a regular start .......
  19. right up the Buttner?
  20. Not sure what gives you that idea. A lot of fans (including me) rate him very highly. I'd be very sorry to see him go. Like CB Saint, I wonder if his agent is asking for a huge rise, and Saints are calling his bluff.
  21. So how late would Millwall have had to have been before the ref awarded us the game as a walkover?
  22. on BEIN 4HD via wiziwig
  23. not just me then! Lots of sports 'trails, now
  24. Anybody else watching incomprehensible Arabic discussion in front of a ground that is clearly not the Den?!
