Having those extra fingers can be very useful when there's complicated calculus to be done! I loved the VAT and FL levy excuses from P*mpey though - did they really think they'd get away with that?

No offence intended to you, Gemmel - you clearly believe your source on the O'Neil thing. But doesn't it occur to you that the originating source of your info and of Pat's could be one and the same? A story from a single original source can be heard by many people from many sources, which is exactly how rumours spread (and gain a cachet of authenticity, as info appears unconnected when it actually isn't).

Amid all the 'We should have signed him in January!' stuff, people seem to be forgetting that you can't just nab a player against the wishes of his club. If Posh denied us permission to speak to him, we stood no chance of signing him. Unless, of course, we'd been willing to indulge in some subterfuge, hoping he'd put in a transfer request. And that sort of behaviour can land you in serious trouble with the authorities. As for now, I can't imagine for a second that Posh would loan a key player to a major rival for promotion. Norwich maybe, but not us.

Driving on the right (i.e. left) side of the road
Fowllyd replied to bridge too far's topic in Motoring Forum
They do in Nepal. Incidentally, the Swedish switch to driving on the right led to a massive (temporary) reduction in crashes, as drivers took greater care because of their uncertainty. -
No doubt there are Huddersfield supporters none too happy that they only just sneaked a late winner last night, and fans of both Huddersfield and Peterborough looking anxiously at our games in hand too. We've just beaten the second-placed team in the division 3-1 at their place after going a goal down - yep, distinct lack of guts and gusto there. All we can do is win as many as possible (yes, I know that's a shocking statement of the bleedin' obvious, but it's also true). I don't know about other teams being 'due a loss in form', but it's very likely that both Huddersfield and Posh will lose and/or draw matches before the end of the season. We need to ensure that we capitalise on any slips they make, and that we get the most we can from our games in hand. As others have said, automatic promotion is in our hands and, personally, I feel confident that we'll do it.

You really need to ask them directly - that way you'll get the answer from the horse's mouth.

I think he meant "Technically it's not, it's in ours", as in it's in our hands and not those of Posh or Huddersfield, so technically he's correct.

Central midfield playmaker for £1M? Do you honestly think we'd get somebody better than any of Hammond, Chaplow or Schneiderlin for a million? It's possible we were interested in MacKail-Smith (we don't know this of course, but Fry has mentioned bids for him in January) and that Posh's asking price was too high. As I say, we don't know what happened. Realistically, we were never going to get players equal to or better than the ones we already have in January. As to Pulis, he's been on loan to various L2 clubs, had a few games, got dropped and come back again. Personally, I think L2's above his level - and yes, i've seen him play.
-
Many a time you have sprung to the defence of the truly dreadful Pulis, who has never got past the bench in a proper first-team match for Saints in almost three years (and has only even made it there once or twice). A player who has totalled fewer first-team appearances per year for a succession of clubs, mostly lower than our level, than the two who you now disparage. And yet you're all too willing to condemn current players who have as yet had little chance to make any impact. You've complained at others for judging Pulis without having seen him play - surely you can't now be doing the same for Forte and N'Guessan?

If we win on Saturday: Good for Saints, Bad for Bournemouth
Fowllyd replied to jawillwill's topic in The Saints
You're quite right. At this stage of the season, points count for nothing at all. -
I thought you already did.

Yes! Oxo!!!!!

Do you wear your glasses to bed? In light of the above I dearly hope so, purely for Mrs Hamster's sake.

Any large bear would dispense with any big cat with ease. No contest at all. How a bear would fare against Hamster is, of course, a very different matter.

I'd think the 'farmer from the middle of nowhere' jibe is more likely to be directed at Ken Bates.

Question for the Positive-Thinkers after the Walsall result
Fowllyd replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
A bit like this perhaps? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmLDlpapPKE&feature=related -
All the more so when the irony's laid on with a large trowel - Turkish doesn't do subtle!

Bloody hell - I'm glad I watched that in a window, and not full screen!

Yeah, I noticed that too. Amusing in a way, but pretty crap really.

Here's one - the last bit is particularly good... http://www.flixxy.com/lucky-day.htm It won't embed - I did try, just like Baj said...

I'm afraid I'll remain doubtful until I hear that Lampitt has had at least one email and a viocemail message. Those things will clinch it as far as I'm concerned.

Dave Watson for Stoke City at the Dell, not long after he left us. Early eighties, but can't remember exactly which season it was. Watson's goal was a stunning thirty-yard volley (left foot I think) after the ball had been cleared to him. Nobody knew he could do anything like that - I doubt he did either! The match ended 4-3; we'd gone 3-0 up, they pulled it back, then Mark 'Albert' Whitlock scored the winner from a corner at the death.

You're quite right - I was thinking of it being before I was at university, not during that time. Must have been before I went back for my second year then, as I know I was in Bishopstoke at the time. So yes, humble apologies to SM of D. My only real memory of the first leg was Holmes' wonder goal, and I was lucky enough not to attend the second. A friend phoned me and told me the score that evening; I told him to eff off as I thought he was winding me up!

You really, really couldn't make it up... http://www.skysports.com/skysportsnews/story/0,28679,19494_6771574,00.html
