That would be the 6-0 reverse loss I take it... -
Now that's just crazy talk!

Arse. Thought we'd win. We're still going up though. And not via the play-offs. -

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here - we should wait to find out what Turkish thinks before trying to start any songs or chants. -
Gets my vote, especially the away kit.

All good points. If you divide the total number of fouls by the number of bookings, that gives an idea of the proportion of fouls that are serious. So MK Dons, for example, have a low total of fouls (355), but around one sixth of these (60) resulted in bookings; they've also had nine players sent off, which is the highest except for Plymouth. In contrast, just over a tenth of our fouls have resulted in bookings - 51 from 478. The third penalty we've conceded was Brighton at home, and that looked like a very poor decision to me.

Why did Bradley Wright Phillips get a standing ovation FFS?
Fowllyd replied to Turkish's topic in The Saints
Hmm, perhaps the thread title should be changed to "Why did Bradley Wright-Phillips get a light round of applause FFS?" instead. Wouldn't look so dramatic, it's true, but at least it would reflect what actually happened... -

Most of the ground applauding, or most of the ground standing? I don't reckon the majority applauded, and I didn't notice much if any standing (other than those who were already standing). A polite round of gentle applause is all I was aware of. I've no idea where you got the impression of a standing ovation. -
More fouls but fewer serious ones perhaps? We're nowhere near the top on bookings and have just the one sending-off (Gobern's comic turn!). Plymouth have reached double figures for sendings off - crikey!

He received some applause when he went off, but it wasn't a standing ovation by any means. -
Pompey have a proud history of trouserless managers!

I think that when it comes to Charlie's posts, you have to either (a) ignore them completely; or (b) pat him on the virtual head and smile sweetly. In either case, just be thankful that he only gets three of them a day!

Yeah, I was going by the PA at the match - from the northern end of the Kingsland you could only see that we'd scored, not a hope in hell of seeing who'd scored it! So, Rickie had an excellent match in spite of not scoring then...

Scarcely looked like one hundred, let alone nearly four.

First game I've been to for ages - really enjoyed it. Very comfortable win, could have been more than two. I thought Dickson had an excellent match; he's probably booked the left back slot after that. Richardson played pretty well but looked to have cramp or maybe was simply knackered in the last ten minutes. Stephens looked neat and tidy, but didn't stand out particularly - Chaplow's a more combative player. Lallana walked off the pitch, Stephens was stretchered off. My mate reckoned Adam's injury was a groin (apparently confirmed by Adkins too) so we'll just have to wait and hope. If it can be managed till the end of the season fair enough, but we shouldn't take any risks with him. that said, I get the impression that Adkins wouldn't do that anyway - a benefit of his background perhaps. Gobern played OK when he came on, and it was good to see Connolly get a run-out too. I thought Rickie looked good; scored the second and was the pivot for our attacking play throughout. Seems to me he does one hell of a lot even when he's not scoring. Easiest 2-0 I can remember seeing - roll on the next match, and the one after that...

And let's not forget Alain Perrin, Tony Adams and Paul Hart in that great roll of honour!

Massive respect to MS Dhoni. It's a tough run chase, your team's third wicket has just fallen and the game's finely poised. You've been out of form with the bat all through the tournament. So, as captain, what do you do? Well, if you're Dhoni you bite the bullet, promote yourself to four in the order, then go on to make an unbeaten 91 off 79 deliveries, finishing off the innings and match with a magnificent six. Bloody hell.

I Think you are Right Deppo Mate but We Will See!!!!

Er, win one, lose the other?

Excellent match indeed. The previous season's game against Liverpool, which we won 3-2, was an even better match in my view. All the goals came in the first half; we took the lead, they equalised and went ahead, we equalised and got the winner - a superb strike from Nick Holmes. The second half was a brilliant 45 minutes of football in spite of there being no goals. The FA Cup replay against Wednesday in 1984 was great, though in a different way. They played horrible out-and-out hoofball (offside trap just inside their own half, free kick, send all three centre-backs up, keeper launches it in their general direction - that was their sole tactic) - and yet they took the lead and almost got a second. Once we calmed down and imposed our play we took them apart. A great example of class telling.

Many people think. Many people post on SantsWeb. Very, very few do both - especially at the same time. Hope that's helpful.

Rumour has it Saints are in big trouble!

Yes indeed. As we all know, there is only one thing worse than being talked about... -
Yes, Lawrie brought in older players, almost all of whom served us very well, some for a season or two, others for longer - Alan Ball, Mick Mills, Frank Worthington and others. But that's only a part of the picture. It was during his time as manager that we established a superb youth set-up, with selection centres in various parts of the country, not just Southampton. This produced the likes of Steve Williams, Nick Holmes, the Wallace brothers, Steve Moran, Ruben Agboola, Graham Baker and others. We also brought in excellent young players such as Mark Wright and Mark Dennis and experienced pros like David Armstrong and Peter Shilton, all able to offer many years of service (no, they didn't all stick around, but that's hardly the point here). Look at it this way - at the time that Lawrie left we were a very good side, with a number of excellent home-produced players and more coming through. If that's not planning for the future then I'm not sure what is.

Whenever I read stuff like this, I think of the words of David Hume, the great Scots empiricist of the 18th century. He wrote some very wise things about miracles, the basic thinking behind which is very pertinent here: So, what would be more miraculous in this case? That there is some nefarious collusion involving Alex Ferguson, Darren Ferguson, Craig Levein and various others - or that Craig MacKail-Smith has simply been selected for the Scotland squad? And why are you addressing your post to somebody called 'contraire'?

Because Solent seemed obsessed with recalling Puncheon last night...

Ditto. Let's face it, good old 'Arry has fallen out with/frozen out his fair share of players over the years.
