  1. Close, but no cigar . That pair of matches was in 1978 I think, a couple of years pre-Keegan. I was at the first leg game, and Nick Holmes' goal was astonishing. Surpassed though, especially in terms of its context, by the one he scored against Liverpool at the Dell in the 1982-3 season. Danny Wallace's first against Liverpool the following season was superb too - brilliant move, amazing finish.
  2. Take another look at that barbeque...

Can anybody hear it on SaintsPlayer? I'm getting nothing! FFS.

    How about...

FFS - 20 minutes gone and we haven't even looked like creating a chance yet.

    How about...

Total f*cking shambles in my view. Doesn't look like any of the team were even on the bus today. P*iss poor.
  6. Alan Ball (yes, it can also be a verb). Pulis (as in 'He had a shocking game. All he did was pulis around the midfield all match - he didn't contribute anything')
  7. Good grief! No wonder he's thinking of a career move...
  8. True, but just think of the clientele.
  9. You said it was hypocritical to criticise the EDL for their views; it is not hypocritical at all. I was not questioning their right to exist, merely your assertion about hypocrisy. You are also making assumptions about my views and beliefs; odd considering that you don't know me, let alone what views I hold.
  10. So what should they be criticised for then? Their dress sense perhaps? How and why is it illiberal to disagree with somebody else's beliefs? Or hypocritical, for that matter? Given that it's impossible to agree with everyone, ergo it's unavoidable to disagree with people, so your argument makes no sense at all. The issue with the EDL, however, is not simply about what they believe; it's also about the way they behave. For example, they make themselves out to be pacific, non-racist and not anti-muslim, all three of which claims are clearly false; they also organise marches which are deliberately intended to intimidate and provoke, much as the National Front used to do back in the 1970s and Mosley's Fascists did in the 1930s.
  11. Bit of finger trouble from me earlier. Work getting in the way of the interweb. My post: was in response to this one: Any chance of an answer, now I've actually managed to include the quoted post?
  12. Are we to take it, then, that you are no longer a supporter of either the BNP or the Ku Klux Klan? You've expressed your support and admiration for both those organisations in the past.
  13. Enjoying it? I think all this chocolate talk simply mars the debate.
  14. He's easy to spot. He's just so dominant.
  15. Sure was a fine record shop. Great variety of music, good prices too from what I can recall.
  16. This really should be moved to the All Gold threads.
  17. I know it may seem a tad unfashionable to start a thread about football on the main board, but Anthony Pulis has joined Barnet on loan for the rest of the season: http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2288615,00.html Best of luck to him - and them.
  18. I only wish I could share your optimism.
  19. Chainrai's a secured creditor, not a football creditor. The Premier League will ensure that parachute payments go first and foremost to football creditors, such as clubs owed transfer fees, ex-players owed payments (hello, Sol!) and the like. I'm pretty sure that Chainrai can't get his mitts on any parachute money until all those are paid off in full.
  20. Have a look at The9's post quoting the relevant law, then see if you still think that the Exeter scorer was within his rights. Whether Fonte was getting there or not is irrelevant; his run was blocked by a player who was not in a position to play the ball (the crucial criterion).
  21. I think the funniest thing about that web site is its home page: http://sospompey.bigcartel.com/ You'd kind of expect some big campaign or something, wouldn't you - or at least the beginnings of one. You'd be disappointed. Or not, as the case may be!
  22. How about this bit? In general, their report reads like something written by a supporter rather than anything else. Lots of editorialising, also seems to be going for a chatty, humorous style. Not sure that it works, to be honest. I liked the comment about a "bumper 6370 crowd" though - wowzers.
  23. A very interesting read, and well worth a thread of its own. I feel the comment that the first half balance of play was mostly down to Ferguson getting it wrong gives too little credit to Adkins and Saints; deprived of our best player, Adkins used a formation which he obviously expected to counter United, the players stuck with it excellently - and it worked. The tactical switch that Ferguson made was clearly pivotal, but it would be foolish to ignore the quality of the players brought on at that time. Giggs and Nani would cause problems to any defence, after all. As the Zonal Marking piece says, though, another important aspect of the switch was to free Paul Scholes to play the way he does best; the previous formation didn't really allow him to.
  24. Excellent performance - matched them, if not more, for a good part of the game. Their subs made a huge difference, as you'd expect. But it was great to see us going head to head with the Premier League leaders and only just being edged out. Now for the league!
  25. Sounds good to me. He can power the floodlights at Nottarf at the same time as losing weight.
