  1. I've also gone for very good. He has shown some weaknesses, specifically his tactics in the Chelsea games this year spring to mind when he effectively gave them the central midfield after some bizarre substitutions but our overall form, style of play and determination in getting us back into form after our recent stutter have been impressive. Certainly I would have bitten your hand off this time last year if it could have been suggested we would be in this position now. He has done very, very well.
  2. I totally agree with the sentiments about prioritising the cup, yet equally, we are not going to have that busy a fixture list as the season closes out so there is no reason why we cannot give all remaining games a damn good go. It is a bit odd as a fan seeing the season fizzle out to a certain extent by January, it's the first time in a decade (League 1 -10 season notwithstanding) that we havn't got a key aim in sight in the league. It's never usually dull being a fan of this club!
  3. The will never pass. She was such a divisive woman.
  4. Only so much space. It could so easily become a mosaic, and still a subjective one at that.
  5. Adam Hammill?
  6. I only remember that happening after his rant.... then it was evident sarcasm and Kelvin seemed to realise how ridiculous it all was. There was a moment as he finished his rant when you could see his head drop, he knew he'd let himself down. The 'Pompey fan on a string' song seemed to be on loop that day too.... seriously, who came up with that sh*te!?
  7. How could I!? One of the heroes of Hillsborough!! Oh and Pearce, was trying to remember him..... Wasn't he the guy that went into Non-league and strung things out for a few years? (Ok, ok, general description I know....)
  8. Was convinced Burley was about to be sacked after that game. The one where Kelvin ranted at the away end after they (I was there but didn't have a go, truly) had a go at him. Phil Ifil too, saw him against a Saints youth eleven at Kettering back in the summer of 2011. He sank quickly, even quicker then Wright.
  9. God, Chris Lucketti. He did well, prefered him to Perry. Naturally we kept Perry! haha. He did a job, sweated it out during the relegation season then helped us build in League 1.
  10. We seemed to go through so many randoms around that time. Easy to get lost.
  11. Good work lad, have a sugar cube! Really, thankyou for actually making me laugh in this dismal place.
  12. Was sure he was with us until the end of that last day survival season, seemed to be always injured by that point mind. Edit: Checked the mighty wiki: Yep, retired in April 08 due to a hip injury.
  13. Was Makin with us by that point?
  14. Still only 38. He really went down the pyramid after leaving us. A couple of appearances at Blackpool before ending up at Lewes I believe. To think that Moyes wanted him at Everton in the year they finished 4th.
  15. At what game was this, the Sheffield United match at the end of 07/08? A response of 'really' though.... Always struck me as a modest pro, probably why he was shunted all over the pitch depending on Burley's mood, he knew he wouldn't kick up a stink.
  16. Strange that someone with so many posts on a forum would be so reticent to express their own viewpoint.
  17. It would appear that way yes.
  18. So what would you rather do? It's easy to criticise but not so much to provide insight and alternative.... but you would at least be respected for trying....
  19. Perfect for a Rhodes type player. Gotcha.
  20. Care to be more specific? That's a rather general answer. Also, how would you recommend we create more chances?
  21. I disagree. His off the ball movement stretches the defenders similarly to Jay while he provides some unpredictability with his ingenuity on the ball, he is not having a run in the team thanks to the form of Rickie and Jay and as such hasn't been able to assert himself. For me that shows how well our strikers are doing to keep him out just as much as highlighting how disappointing it may be that he isn't scoring as many as we would hope due to his price tag. As for can't thinking of many that would, well.... the system that we play gives our strikers a very tough time. To genuinely improve things further I feel we would need to sign someone from the very, absolute top draw. Until (!?) we can offer European football we will struggle with that. Incidentally, how would you look for us to create more chances, which is a point you stated earlier? Please don't tell me I have to go all Paxman before you finally state some opinion of your own. I'm not sharing any more of my own until you do.
  22. And the points countering that where that his other attributes wouldn't fit the way we play. That is an opinion it seems I share with a few other forum members, no doubting his finishing ability but he isn't someone who would sufficiently improve our first team. For better or worse we operate a certain system, anyone we sign will have to fit.
  23. Sorry Pastor, but he clearly said: Not that I was actually explicitly saying that, taking that on though statistically we are actually about bang average in the league as far as chances are concerned, as seen in the half season stats breakdown thread. Couple that with the record of our forwards at the same level as Rhodes I would say that chance conversion isn't the specific issue.... and even if it was there is no certainty based on my opinion and the sketchy record of championship top scorers coming to the Premier League that he would be any kind of certain solution. Taking Jay Rodriguez as an example, he was never fiercely prolific at Championship level but it was his other qualities (movement, positional sense which complimented his finishing) which has allowed him to adapt and thrive.
  24. Where is Glasgow? I genuinely want to know his opinion on how we should tackle the issue that we are not making many clear chances.
  25. Don't forget Earnshaw, Ellington, Ricketts, Ebanks-Blake,. Scoring a hat-full at Championship League level is not an assured stamp of ongoing or premier league quality.
