Good luck! Not sure if you ever went to watch your step father before, but if you have never been there on race dad it is amazing. Before my first time, people said to me about the crowds, but I never expected the crowd to be so loud as it is in places. Enjoy the occasion and do him proud I’ve had a few niggles recently as well, all part of the training and knowing when to push, but also when to stop pushing!

Two weeks away now, anyone else on here doing it or is it just me that stupid? I signed up to motivate myself because I needed to shift some weight! Anyone done it before? This is my 3rd one, but I've been training hard this time so I'm hoping to put in a respectable time! (and no Deppo, I’m not doing it dressed as a dalek, teapot, skate, or in any other novelty costume!!)

I'm guessing you were so busy panicking about the end of the world, you missed where he said it'll happen in a billion billion years (or something like that!) Personally the thought of the sun expanding and crashing into the planet in a billion billion years is of little interest to me. Now if he'd been telling us about the end of the world happening in 2012 then maybe we'd all worry a bit more!

I would guess people who don't work, but then surely they would usually be exactly the kind of people that would not be bothering to waste a day doin something requiring such effort I'd say I'll come, but I know I couldn't be bothered!

Have any of you ever been on any kind of protest/march? If so, what was it about and what were your motives? (ie did you really feel strongly about the cause, or just go for a laugh/because mates were going/etc?) I see that protesters are supposedly going to try and ruin the royal wedding at the end of this month. I am happy that we’ve been given an extra days holiday for the wedding day (and that’s as far as my interest in the event goes!!!) but I wonder what kind of person wishes to use their extra days holiday to travel to London and march/cause a fuss? Personally I am too apathetic / lazy to wish to go on any kind of protest march, especially on a day of my own holiday. Maybe if there was something that dramatically impacted me personally in a negative way then I might change my mind, but until that happens I’ll limit my protesting activity to the occasional moan in the interweb. Do we have any active protesters on here?

I'm sure things are made to be complicated these days so that you have to call out the 'professionals'! My hot water stopped working Monday morning. I called the heating system company that installed it just over 2 years ago (so just outside its warranty) and then called the landlady with the call out costs. She didn't want to shell out that though and wanted to get 'her man' to look at it. He came on Tuesday, had no idea what it was and suggested I got someone more knowledgeable in! FFS, another day wasted. Got the company I initially called in to look at it, finally got it fixed yesterday.

I'd 'sort of' agree with the popularity contest comment, although I'd see it from a slightly more professional stance. As you say you are good at your job and get on well with the boss. It's not about kissing ass as such, but getting on with the right people is key. I manged people a while back and redundancy is a good way to get rid of the deadwood if it's tackled correctly and professionally, where selected people can be justified based on their 'performance'. If you work hard and have a good working relationship with your boss then why would they get rid of you, they will work the system to ensure you stay and that they get rid of people who are poor performers, difficult to work with, etc. Also you have said you are 'young' and 'fit', so it sounds like there may well be some additional reasons why they may wish to keep you on, such as to be groomed for their peado ring.

+1 I do Bournemouth to Aldershot, or Bournemouth to Southampton parkway a couple of times a week and I can't say I've noticed any difference in the mornings or on the return trip. In fact last week on one morning I decided to travel later thinking I'd miss the usual crawl and was surprised to see it was so busy past 9 as well!

I honestly find it hard to believe that people generally will stop driving due to the cost. Ok there may be a small amount that start car sharing, but generally people aren't driving about to kill time, they drive because they have to. Public transport doesn't help as it's not an attractive alternative, the majority will just have to deal with the costs. Are you sure people aren't just changing their route/travel time to avoid seeing you each morning?

Ah good to see you back Deppo, it was obviously only a temporary ban. In your absence I started to have to look elsewhere for a favourite funny poster as I needed to fill the Deppo void. Thankfully Turkish made me lol a few times yesterday and whilst it’s good to see you back, it’s nice to know I now have a back up ready for when you are next banned.
