Like a lot of people on here, I have no love of the Irish or any of the other 'Home' nations especially with their propensity to revel in Englands defeats and failiures, so am not feeling sorry for them. I like a lot of others on here are saddened that this blatant act of cheating has taken place and has happened during a very important football match, and nothing is being done to even bring a modicum of justice to the proceedings. I'm sure we would all feel the same way if it was any other country 'although in my case, if it was France that had suffered it would probably be a different case entirely', and just want some justice for the game of football if nothing else.
-
And that's why we love Killer so much! Totally agree with you slickmick, mr 'I can be bothered to go into the technical details' got it all wrong, the human brain is capable of an estimated 1billion processes per second, and what it makes it more relevant is that Henry not only moved his hand to the ball but also touched it twice. On the replays which i've seen it also looks like it's a very close call on a french player handling it as he and the Irish defence are attempting to head the ball as it's been played into the box just before Henry's handling of it.
-
It is disgusting cheating, and could hardly have been more blatant, Henry definetly knew what he was doing and Gallas is equally complicit. I hope that Fifa will act accordingly and follow through on their promise to ban cheats from the world cup! Seeing as there is no way that FIFA will change the outcome or replay the game at the expense of their beloved France, banning them would at least be a modicum of justice.

But seeing as she was so firmly against strikes, we'd have lots of dull 0-0's.

Yes, I saw that as well! Why did Pardew tell Papa to go out on the wing when he came on, he wou have been better deployed running through the centre where he will scare their centre backs and can pick up the passes or flicks from Lambert and Lallana. We were stinking gash yesterday and didn't have any way of changing the game in our favour, it's that lack of options that is glaringly obvious and should be Pards priority when the window opens, plus we still need to get either a sweeper or a centre back with pace, as Jaidi and Thomas looked very slow yesterday. That performance looked as though the team had been reading all of the billy big boll*x posts on here that said we'd win the game easily and were predicting 6-0 wins for us, complacency is the usual killer word in these circumstances and it seems very apt here, both for the fans and the team. Another performance like that next week will take a long time to recover from, especially as we are now entering the period of the season where Saints traditionally do very poorly and don't pick up many points, so please lads bring the pride and the passion back against Norwich on Saturday. I'd still like to see Papa played through the middle with Lambert, and Holmes and Antonio on the wings supplying them with the ammo, would think we would be more deadly playing that way, and it would help to pin the oppo's full backs back, as they always seem to be our downfall.

Doubt it will be on TV this time as there are Premier League fixtures on both the Tuesday and Wednesday evenings that week. I really want to go to the game, but am scheduled to have an operation to have two wisdom teeth removed at four o'clock on the Tuesday afternoon. So the guys had better win for me, as i'll already be in a lot of pain!
-
Not if they haven't been bothered to go to one of the games before the final, they should join the queue and take their chance! I've been to both games so far, and will be very peeved if I don't get a ticket for the final should we get there, especially if a season ticket holder that only wants a day out at Wembley gets one instead of me. Shoud be decided firstly on whether you have attended one of the rounds, then on season ticket holders!

Wouldn't work as well, as the current system. 'Which I agree is flawed' It takes time to process and collate the data from the various sources, even with the speed at which processors work now. Then you add in the human element of the ajudicator, as they will need to verify the data and give a final decision, and you may as well stick with the current system. One of the biggest frustrations we have with football is stoppages, if the game was continually being stopped even for twenty or thirty seconds at a time, I think it would ruin a lot of peoples enjoyment of a game which is all about speed. The only way around this would be to review in the wake of a goal being scored, or at half and full time, but that would also upset a lot of people and change the make up of the game, so that football played at the top level would be a lot different to that played at non league and amateur level. Part of the magic of the game of football is that it is fundamentally the same in the top divisions as it is at amateur level. I agree that we need a better system but what it will be, is a way off yet! BTW, I think this debate also points to Papa Waigo being too quick for the officals, and is not offside anything like as much as some on here think.

Attendance against Charlton in the JPT
SFKA South Woodford replied to Footballfan's topic in The Saints
Surely if the Itchen and Northam stands are almost fully sold out, then more than 15,000 must have been sold already? Wish I had waited to get my tickets now, as i'm in the Northam/Kingsland corner and would rather be in my normal seat, next to the centre line in the Kingsland, to get a better view. -
Yes, it was Nathan Dyers little brother!

I went to Bristol on a friday in October and found that the last train back with a connection to Basingstoke was around 9.45, and I almost missed that due to the cab I ordered turning up almost fifteen minutes late. So I wouldn't try and get home by train after the game. The last train to Southampton leaves Waterloo just after 1am though, so you may be able to get back via London, but it will be expensive.

Totally agree, we let the oppo get too many crosses into our box for a team that is so dominant in other areas of the pitch. I include Harding in this as well, as although he is good going forward and looks good against moderately good wingers, as soon as he comes up against one of the better ones he's found wanting. I know that is not that often because of the division we are in, but if we want to get automatic promotion next season 'should we not make the play offs this season' then we will have to be more ruthless and not give the oppo a sniff to ensure that we don't drop crucial points.
-
I agree with others in saying that he wasn't having his best game on Saturday, but he wasn't playing that badly either. When an oppo fan says that your player was onside when he scored, as he does in the match report posted on the other thread, I think it's safe to say that he was onside. I also think that all the marginal calls go against him, as the officials at this level are not used to having someone as quick as him to officiate over, so just call him off when a lot of the time he's not, there was an occasion on Saturday when he was a couple of yards behind Lewington when the ball was played over by Morgan, and the lino flagged him off as he got to the ball first. It didn't help his effectiveness by having Lewington virtually sitting on top of him on Saturday and our players passing to his feet rather than just ahead of him, so he would of been able to use his pace a bit more. Everyone has the occasional dip in form, but he will recover and remains a key ingredient of our team.
-
Biggest surprise for me, was that the ref didn't give them a penalty when Jaidi and Easter where tussling for the ball, Jaidi won and Easter just fell over, I thought he'd give it for sure, as he'd given them everything else. I'm starting to think there is one set of rules for Saints in this division and one set for all the other teams, as our players are constantly getting dumped on the ground or jumped into or on, our having players trying to scythe them in two, and yet we don't get a free kick, and yet as soon as one of our players goes near theirs and they fall over, a free kick is given. The reffing is awful at this level especially for us.

Brilliant, give someone the power to end someone else's life with one squeeze of a finger from yards away. You don't solve a problem by escalating it's consequences! Could you imagine what it would be like if you had hoolies 'tooled up' i'm sure that mockney geezer Guy Richie would be able to make another crap film out of that idea.
-
Yes, but to be fair that could be down to all of the other political parties being almost as big a bunch of clowns as the Labour party and their cronies. It's going to be a difficult choice of who to vote for, Beavis or Butthead!

Well if they've had enough of democracy, lock them all up and throw away the key. They wont complain as they don't want to live in a society that allows them to practice their hate filled brand of religion anyway. While we are at it, can we lock up Mel Gibson on his next visit too? I believe in a higher power and consider myself christian 'although i'm not a practising christian', but to me religion is only a guideline, not in how to be holier than the next person, but to live with each other in peace and harmony and teaches respect for other people. It only becomes dangerous when you get zealots that start putting their own spin on it and start spouting it off as the true gospel of god. In my view these people and their followers are often weak willed and not understanding their life, look to religion as a way of explanation or as a way of having something to blame for their lot in life, rather than going and doing something about it for themselves. If it is a way of making your life better, then surely we'd all be well off as we could all pray for god to see his way to giving us all a few bob and he'd oblige.

Big mistakes by the echo there then, especially as the echo site is pretty poor and certainly not worth paying a fee to look at. On the subject of Martin Chivers, i've seen and read several articles where he has said that Spurs is the club where his heart belongs, not Saints. Also remember seeing some quotes in the London papers from him where he was quite scathing of Saints in terms of setup and the clubs and fans treatment of him. I suppose he might have changed his opinion over the last few years though.

I really hope it doesn't go the way the way of the Dodo as well. As with others on here, I remember getting back to Central after a slow walk back from the game at the Dell to see the guy standing between the ticket barrier and WH Smith's selling copies of the pink, and thinking how amazing it was that they could get it printed and out for sale in such a short time, was always a good read on the train back to London and it allowed me to save reading my programme until I was home. I remember some of my friends looking through it in London and their comments about how great it would be if there was a paper in London that covered the local league football as well as the Football League teams, we all had dreams of seeing our names or photographs in print of a report on our local league Saturday and Sunday morning teams matches, and were envious of the coverage things like the tyro league got in the pink. I still think it's well worth saving even if it's not quite as good as it used to be, perhaps the Echo management could look at publishing it on Saturday evenings again with a few well stocked outlets around the city i'm sure there would be plenty of sales to people on their way home after the game.

How many Oldham tickets did we get?
SFKA South Woodford replied to View From The Top's topic in The Saints
Surely you mean North of Doncaster Yorkie?, i've been unfortunate enough to visit there a few times now, and Donnie is a real sh*t pit, and is as depressing as french or swedish art house cinema. Rotherham's not much better either! -

SFKA South Woodford replied to View From The Top's topic in The Saints
I worked in Didcot for three years as well and agree it is a bit of a hole, but to say it's the start of the sh*t hole that is 'Up north' is a tad wrong in my view, there are some very nice villages and towns in North Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire, however as soon as you get anywhere near Birmingham things get decidedly grim, especially when you travel between Brum and Wolverhampton, when I travelled that way a few years back it looked like Hiroshima or Nagasaki with buildings knocked into heaps of rubble. -
I would think that the 500,000 a year in mortgage and the few hundred grand a year in interest payments to Aviva and Barclays that the club are no longer paying is going some way to paying a good chunk of their wages. That doesn't mean that I think Mr Leibherr isn't putting money into the club in other area's or for the other part of the wage bill. I'd be surprised if the club is currently operating at anywhere near the level of loss it was last season, and is probably not that far off of break even, with the increase in attendances and season ticket sales coupled with the cost cutting which was carried out. Although according to the few down the road we still owe millions to all the creditors!

Saints 2-2 (5-3 on pens) Torquay - Match Reaction
SFKA South Woodford replied to Arizona's topic in The Saints
Why is 4-5-1 such a superior formation Bungle? In our case it means that our deadliest striker is constantly playing with two defenders on him and his back to goal, which are both hardly conducive to him finding the net as much as we need him to. -
The only reason to note James, was for being a pansy and not wanting to get hurt by putting a proper challenge to win the ball! Someone needs to tell him that he's more likely to get hurt going in half hearted than full blooded. Are you seriously trying to say that Mellis was better than Papa yesterday? Papa scored one and had a hand in two of the other goals, the only reason Mellis looked better than usual is because he was in centre mid where he will see a lot more of the ball, even then he didn't do much with it.

Can't believe some of the criticism of Waigo today, yes he had a few bad moments, but his good moments more than made up for them and he battled for the ball 'and won it, Saga take note!' and closed down well. He produced a few pieces of absolutely sublime skill in front of the Kingsland stand in the second half, amongst them were the pieces that allowed him to beat their players down the wing and the one in the box to cross from which Lallana should have scored, and one where he won the ball when he got between two Gills players and just when he looked like losing it a great drag back and nutmeg of a gills player as he laid it back to James. The run he went on just after he had scored, and after closing down and winning the ball back for us from their kick off in the first half was excellent not just in terms of skill but also attitude. I agree he's not the finished article and there is room for improvement, but if he keeps improving at this rate he will be a very decent player for this level.
