Another way of putting it : Les Reed is widely recognised by the football media as a master in the transfer business ! He has signed players like Mane, Tadic, Fonte, Bertrand, Pelle, Wanyama, Lovren, Van Dyck, Forster, Cedric, Lambert and Alderweireld. He has expanded and improved the infrastructure of one the finest footballing academies in the country and is well respected by his peers ! I'm struggling to think of a director of football with a better track record in recent years !

Nice, you try to think out of the box and you are classed as 'moronic' ! I could have just have slagged off the manager and most of the players (see the match thread!) but I preferred to offer a constructive alternative! By all means disagree but remember that common courtesy costs nothing !
-
Given that Charlie is likely to be out for a while and that the others couldn't score in a brothel. Would it not be worth a try to have Fonte and Yoshida at the back and Virgil up front ? We are runners by out of options, at least until January so could do a lot worse ! Not holding my breath mind
-
So have the Liebherr family and Les Reed but you seem to spend most of your time slagging them off !
-
TBF that article relates only to the 6 wealthiest clubs in the country (who always have the biggest/strongest squads) ! My point included, Fulham, Everton, Swansea, Newcastle, Wigan and Birmingham who are in a different category and all suffered ! Anyway, all about opinions and at least we have had a proper football discussion rather plumbing the depths of personal abuse which seems to have become the norm !!
-
Are you suggesting a '3 piece' forward line ??? :)
-
I beg to differ, many clubs have suffered by playing in Europe - Birmingham and Wigan actually went down when they were involved and since the inception of the league format only 4 teams from 12 have maintained their PL positions and they were the biggest clubs with the biggest squads ! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2522055/The-Europa-League-bad-health-Premier-League-clubs-improve-it.html Pull has stated a couple of times that fitness per se is not the problem but that intensity and concentration is. I tend to agree with him !

Arsenal 0-2 Saints - Reaction & Semi Final Draw
eurosaint replied to Lighthouse's topic in The Saints
Credit to Puel for such a clever team selection, he is brave, innovative and a great believer in giving youth a chance ! Only downside this evening was reading total crap from some of our thick posters on the pre match thread ! COYS -
Good line up, win tonight and there should be a few embarrassed posters on this thread ! Bring it on...... COYS

Gone from sublime to ridiculous ! Until a few weeks ago we heard only muffled sounds but yesterday the level was like a Status Quo concert in the 70's ! TBF, I could just about live with the Beatles and the Who but the other stuff was in excruciating ! Cannot be beyond the wit of man to strike the right balance so please take note Saints PR department !

I'm sure that no Skate will get upset by this post as they will not understand a word of it ! "Wot wif all them big words 'n that, innit !"

Puel emphasised in his after match interview 2 things : Concentration and intensity. It is not physical tiredness per se, it is the ability to maintain your highest level as the games come thick and fast ! I mentioned earlier that Thurs/Sunday matches have taken their toll on league positions for most teams in the past and we do not seem to be an an exception ! Noticeable also how well Chelsea and Liverpool are doing without any European involvement ! Keep the faith !
-
He's been around with the usual drivel but has had a lot of competition tonight ! If you fancy trawling through this thread then I suggest that you keep a bottle of vodka by your side or even a few happy pills cos you sure as hell are gonna need them

Disappointing that we dominated the game but lost ! History tells you that playing on Sunday following a Europa league match on Thursday has an effect. Newcastle, Everton, Fulham and Swansea all suffered, Wigan and Birmingham were actually relegated ! Anyone who expects a top six finish as well as reasonable cup runs is (IMHO) way overly optimistic ! The manager and players are doing their best but given that we are playing up to 3 times a week we have to be realistic ! No doubt we will have high spots and low spots in the coming months and I can live with that ! Unfortunately the overreaction on this forum to any defeat can be embarrassing (verging on moronic !) and really gets me down at times, I suppose I should ignore it but for some reason I keep coming back ! Grrr....
-
Beaten by a better side today but with even their reserves being £30 million (ish) players, there is no disgrace in that ! This result will not define our season so best we move swiftly on to the Inter match on Thursday ! COYS

From the video he still looks like a raw talent, a talent nonetheless. Perhaps with pompey's training and facilities we can hone those ! Read more at: http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/football/pompey/j-lowe-set-to-arrive-on-block-as-pompey-dream-comes-true-1-7652252? :):)

"The 4 goal striker is a firm Fratton favourite" ! Nice to see they set the bar so high
-
To be even more fair, our 4 away games against Man U, Man C, Arsenal & Leicester were all teams who finished in the top 5 last year and WHU were 7th so you couldn't get much more difficult than that ! If you assume that we have a better chance of home points against bigger teams then the 2nd half of the season bodes well ! I realise that we dropped silly points v Watford and Sunderland but Puel had not yet settled in by then so may be excused for that IMO !

Can't believe that Clasie is getting stick (from some !) because he really did well today ! His booking was harsh as he clearly got the ball. He then he had to tread carefully but still kept winning the ball and probing with through balls ! I reckon that he is a 'players player' and that they recognise his contribution even if some posters on here cannot see it !

Positives : 1) Puel's selection and tactics. 2) Non first picks - Martina, Yoshida, McQueen and JWP all play well. 3) No fear, took the game to big name opposition. Negatives : 1) Spurn too many chances. 2) SWF trolls back as usual cos we lost ! COYS

I'm a bit disappointed to hear that it was sporadic around the stadium, I sit in block 29 (towards the chapel end) and it was absolutely clear as a bell for the first time ever, we even talked about it whilst listening to her so I am not imagining it ! Maybe they turned something around which was good for some but negative for others ! Ah well, maybe some day......
