Imo if you are single dad taking two young kids somewhere by yourself you want quite a bit of commercialisation - pools, waterparks, rides, entertainment. A week is a long time with only the beach to rely on.

I took my two here as a single dad a couple of years ago when they were 5 and 4. Good beach 300m away, waterpark nearby, kids club and evening entertainment. The biggest problem for the Royal Mail is that postage costs have been kept artificially low - 32p to have something hand delivered in Scotland ffs, try getting that from DHL or UPS - but at the cost of inevitably compromising its service standards. Ironically if the Royal Mail were free to compete on an even playing field I think they would wipe the floor with much of the competition.

Which in itself adds another layer of cost - the government regulator and contract managers dealing with the commercial company's contract team. For these kind of privatisations there are no savings and no efficiency gains - just items shifted off balance sheets.

Bingo! Currently the military get to hone the skills of their aircrew by flying regular real missions whilst providing economies of scale to staffing and servicing of equipment. Now we have to pay for private aircrew, servcing facilities, a profit for the company and then pay again for RAF / RN training missions. Genius.
