Play and Pay when chanted by large numbers of people in unison sound very similar. Thus it loses the effect as it sounds like the Northam is just singing their song.
Which is why "Wind up Pompey, Pompey wind up" works better. Has two meanings and is clearly recognizable rather than pay/play confusion.

I think the aim is to sell as much merchandise on the back of the Wembley trip as possible. This is one of their ploys. Not going to work on me but it will for a lot of people.
I'd imagine the Huddersfield and Walsall fans thought it was cringeworthy.
The three match officials last night all laughed at it when they were warming up.
Every match he is required to announce ticket details he always get the figure and info wrong. For example last night he said in the 2nd phase of Wembley tickets you could buy direct from the ticket office in person. He also said that the Southern Final of the JPT only had one leg.
Just a couple of countless **** ups during the season he has made.
Nope, it is possible to win 1 or 2 games in the playoffs and go up.
Play off semi is two legged and you could lose or draw one of the legs and win the other.
Could even draw both games in the semi and win on penalties. Thus only winning the final.
You are a bit confused.
The two aren't mutually exclusive!
If Saints lose a League One playoff final then they can still win League One the next season.
Are Leicester looking like mid table team in the Championship after promotion from League One? 5th place after 33 games.
Would Saints spend more than Leicester in the summer if promoted? Based on spending so far I'd say that is very likely
If we used your logic of if Saints went up they'd have to consolidate in 2010/11 season in the Championship then I assume you mean go for promotion in 2011/12. If Saints go up next season instead then it delays the promotion push to the Championship for a year.
