9 points over 38 games is actually a slightly harsher punishment than 10 over 46 games. Both punishments mean you can only get 92% of the max points possible. 9 points is slightly less by a fraction of a percentage 92.2% compared to 92.75% for -10 points.

The stadium is also next to a river. The pitch would flood if it went below the water table.

Why after 3 or 4 years? Every season the club was in the Premiership at St Mary's(including relegation season) the average was over 30k. As soon as the club gains promotion to the Premiership the first season back will also see gates averaging over 30k. 32k simply isn't big enough.

Because to receive a UEFA rating the pitch has to be a certain distance from the stands.

Looks awesome and gives the ground more character than the average bowl stadium. However I don't think much can be done to the Itchen Stand.

The roof level at the Stadium of Light stays the same all the way round which makes it look better even though some stands have an extra tier...
