We came 6th in 2016 only playing one striker. It isn't the number of strikers that is the problem.

Looking at the squad we could be left with...
Matthew Le God replied to Dazza82's topic in The Saints
i) After QPR's 2013 relegation they sold... 2 first team players (Samba & Mackie) ii) After QPR's 2015 relegation they sold... 2 first team players (McCarthy & Austin) Everyone else that left did so because it was the end of their contract, free transfer or retired. -
If Gabbiadini had done something wrong then Carrillo would be on the bench. No mention of Carrillo being ill or injured, so appears Gabbiadini preferred over him.
-
Does your imagination not extend beyond Norwich connections or Hoddle?
-
Why Championship experience for manager and players? A game is between two clubs, the league is just a label for the game it has no baring on the outcome. If Saints are relegated and have a team and manager next season that has only ever previously been in the top flight why is that a bad thing?
-
Why are you fine with relegation? It will be a disaster for the club.
-
Lemina is injured and Boufal is ill. How are those things his fault? The signing of Carrillo, sure blame him. But not the other two.
-
What evidence to you have to jump to that conclusion?
-
Normally confuses football fans in stadium when you say the 62nd minute, they start it at 62:00.
-
So from 61:00 to 61:59?
-
In front of Alex McCarthy's goal to stop us conceding 3 for the 5th game in a row...
-
Does sitting on the bench help develop a 20 year old keeper who now has a season under his belt any further? It would be better to send him to a decent League One club and get regular game-time.
-
You've stated as if fact... but is it based on anything other than the Sun article? An article which doesn't actually do as you say and say a bid has actually been made. That hasn't existed since 2003/04. When 2nd tier of English football was called the First Division.
-
No it isn't. 2015/16 Gap from Saints to 4th place = 3 points Gap from Arsenal to Leicester = 10 points Saints were 1 win in a 38 game season away from being level on points with 4th place. If you finish a 38 game season 1 win away from being level on points for a position... then you were clearly contenders for it!
-
If you end the season only 3 points away from 4th, then I don't see how anyone can say they aren't contenders. 2014/15 - 7th 10 points away from 4th 2015/16 - 6th 3 points away from 4th Cortese was not at the club for either of those seasons.
-
We were contenders for the top 4 in the 2015/16 season. Finishing 6th and only 3 points away from 4th place. Cortese left in January 2014

For what exactly?

Jan Bednarek - Official: Signs for Porto
Matthew Le God replied to Pamplemousse's topic in The Saints
The mention of Bednarek by Hughes is for a continuation of the 3-centre back system we used vs Arsenal. So it would be Hoedt, Yoshida and Bednarek. Not Yoshida missing out. -
Club says they want to score more goals after relegation. Hardly groundbreaking stuff! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43737853

Guido Carrillo - Official: Free Transfer to Elche
Matthew Le God replied to Mr X's topic in The Saints
That is extremely unlikely. -
An England captain with 84 caps and played for Chelsea, Manchester Utd and AC Milan. Who was he underrated by?
-
When would you have scheduled the Swansea and Leicester games for then?

The opening post and my initial post was about the overall squad value being close to £100m, not how much we could raise this summer. Obviously the season has been poor, but I think we have a lot of underperforming players who would still retain huge value. The average value per player would be a lot higher than the £4m the opening post suggests, I don't see how it is unreasonable to suggest that.
-
Nope I think you are. 1) Have players that haven't played higher than the Championship been sold for £15m? 2) Did relegated Sunderland sell their keeper for £30m? His value didn't collapse due to his team being relegated. A £100m valuation equals an average value for a squad of 25 players at £4m. That is ridiculous if you think pretty much any 1st team Saints player is worth £4m, let alone the average being £4m. Our loaned out young players like Gallagher and Reed would likely fetch more than £4m if sold, let alone the current first team squad.
-
It is significantly more than £100m. Some people on this forum underestimate the current crazy transfer market, players who have only ever played in the Championship are being sold for £15m. If relegation happens it doesn't mean player value falls off a cliff, Sunderland were relegated last season and got £30m for their keeper last summer!
