  1. Didn't take a while at all, he showed he was clueless soon after he took charge with a number of comments about the situation showing a complete disregard for creditors and sporting integrity.
  2. When did Buttner say he was a Southampton player? All I've seen him say is that he was impressed with what he was shown and told about the club's ambitions. Plus, even if he did say it - why would that mean Cortese stopped the deal?
  3. He has a long accurate kick, something missing from Davis and Bialkowski's game... [video=youtube;-SHTGdf1oFs]
  4. A top flight team in England? I wouldn't count on it and even if he did, he doesn't fit the profile of what Saints have been doing in the transfer market in the last few years. Saints signed their 27 year old captain who is coming towards his peak. A bit different from signing a 33 year old on the decline. He was never really that great and now he is on the decline. Saints will be looking at better. The hcdajfu sticky thread is there for a reason, and that reason is to stop countless threads about players people would like Saints to sign. This place would be flooded with them otherwise. The hcdajfu thread is 71 pages long full of things like this, imagine if it started spilling out to the forum with individual threads. There is no substance to this other than you would like it to happen. It isn't a "rumour" it is a random whim signing thread.
  5. I bet we haven't. He is 33 years old, he really doesn't fit the profile of what Saints seem to be looking at. The last player over 30 years old Saints signed was in 2010. In any case shouldn't random "he could do a job for us" suggestions be put in this thread...? http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?37654-Summer-2012-HCDAJFU-Thread-Premier-League-Special-Edition
  6. There is no money from hosting a Rugby World Cup to justify giving some to Saints to expand St Mary's for hosting minor games in 2015. The last Rugby World Cup in 2011 had games at stadiums with capacities of 15,000 and 18,000.
  7. He is 27 years old, captained his country and Glasgow Rangers and played 111 games for English Premier League sides (far more than any other current Saints player) as a regular for both Aston Villa and Fulham. Yet you describe him as a "weary old hasbeen/never quite were/wanabee journeyman". Bizarre as ever Charlie! Steven Davis will be a key first team player and I think given his background there is a good chance he will become Southampton's captain.
  8. The Aviva mortgage probably started earlier than 2001. They needed the money to pay for the construction/materials/labour etc during the build process. So maybe 1999 or 2000 perhaps?
  9. Maybe that explains Cortese commissioning this for Staplewood training ground... I know it is out of date ( I couldn't find a more recent one), but it is still true - construction material prices in the last 12 years have increased significantly.
  10. The price of steel in 2012 has significantly increased since St Mary's was being built in late 1990's/early 2000's. As have the prices other materials like concrete. There is a lot of concrete and steel needed to make a football stadium and a lot of the overall cost of a stadium will be in these materials.
  11. What I said was true. I said "if they did the same over a year" i.e. 365 days. I did not say "if they did the same over a year using the current opening times excluding things like Christmas Day etc".
  12. After they were relegated from the Premier League he played for them on loan for an entire season in the Championship, which is where the confusion may have come from perhaps?
  13. http://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=45288&season_id=139
  14. I didn't say he would replace Fonte, I said "for all we know Adkins may bring in another centre back to replace Fonte". I don't see why that is unreasonable? Especially given the squad definetly needs more centre backs, any new ones may well be better than the ones already here and I think Hooiveld is the stronger of the current ones, so Fonte's place would be more under threat.
  15. His loan spell at the end of the 2009/10 season at Burnley. From February 9th to May 9th he played in 11 games (8 starts). Not a long period admittedly, but in that loan he looks like a regular to me.
  16. Which is why I said Steven Davis or Jose Fonte. Davis is far more likely, I just gave two options. Fonte was captain last season for a significant time - every minute Hammond wasn't on the pitch and Hammond started 31 games out of 46 in the League. Of course Fonte being captain would also depend on him getting a lot of game time, for all we know Adkins may bring in another centre back to replace Fonte in the starting XI. But until that happens I went with Davis and Fonte.
  17. He played a part in 32 Championship games last season. Yes, the vast majority were as sub for relatively short periods, but it still shows a fair degree of "trust" from Adkins. I quite like De Ridder and think he could be quite useful next season. Most of his game is good and he has a lot going for him, just needs to work on the final ball.
  18. Do you think Hammond will be " the skipper" next season? I don't, it will probably be either Steven Davis or Jose Fonte. Davis as a former captain of Rangers and his country along with likely playing a lot of games would seem a good choice. I did also say Hammond may well be kept on for this season. After that I think Adkins/Cortese will want to evolve the squad some more to the next level.
  19. So what? Do we know the reason for that? Cork may have had a slight knock. Last season Cork started 8 more games than Hammond and was the only Saints player to play in every game. You only need to watch them regularly to see which is the better player. Technically Cork is far superior to Hammond.
  20. Some simple maths will show you that if they did the same over a year it would equal... - Selling 146,000 shirts - Turning over £9.1 million Plus... - 400 shirts sold over an 8 hour day equals = 1.2 shirts sold per minute! It is safe to assume that is not a typical day at the megastore Alpine.
  21. Cork and in particular Davis have both been regulars for Premier League sides. Not a "guarantee", but when can you ever get a guarantee a player will do well?
  22. I didn't say he would "totally rely" on Ward-Prowse as backup this season. Cork, Schneiderlin, Davis all will play ahead of Hammond/Ward-Prowse. Guly Do Prado, Lallana and De Ridder can be used centrally behind the strikers and you also have Chaplow. When it comes to naming a 25 man squad, some will have to be left out. Saints already have more than twenty five over 21 players and more signings are likely to come in. I also said Hammond "may well stay this season", but it is the beginning of the end for him at Saints. Unlikely to get a new contract and if he doesn't go this summer or in January, he probably will next summer.
  23. I still don't think they have a legal leg to stand on. These players are free to join who they want.
