Love Rickie Lambert! Always going to take a victory on the first day and against a team who comfortably smashed us twice last season! First half looked good without creating a great deal but felt Lovren and Wanyama both looked good. Not sure why the offside goal wasn't given if as the commentators said it was offside against Lallana. 2nd half WBA got right back into it and it looked that our good work would count for nowt when they had their 20 mins of pressure. Soon as the peno was given though ... no doubt! You just don't save those!

Feel like a proud dad! So pleased for Rickie! Absolutely love the guy, hopefully more to come! England need to stick to this play like England stuff rather than attempting to be a budget version of a decent team!
-
To be fair to us, they've had a lot more practice at them

Pompey 4-1 down now. I 4 1 am happy with this bottom so far!
-
Stats seem to suggest otherwise, seeing as how he played in the prem for the whole of the last season ;-) MLG will be all over this Joe!
-
I understand the point you are making but Kevin Phillips scored 13? goals that season. I'd prefer a 13 goal striker to a 2 goal a season Ormerod for example!

Where have all the derbies gone, now that we are in the Prem.?

As for Bristol Rovers they've brought in plenty so staying solvent? Only in the same way every other league 2 team does! Bet they can't wait for their big derby against York! -
Personally not massively keen on the new kit but more for the fact its not in anyway just "ours". Having a kit template thats also worn by a league 1 club suggests a lack of originality in a way that wearing "the same stripes" as a Sunderland or Stoke just doesn't do. I really don't like the golden badge either seems to me that we should have won something before we go doing something that tacky. But then again I don't buy kits so I guess I won't be bothering anyone ;-) Certainly not going to stop me being there every other week cheering on the team!

Potential player signings tomorrow with new kit???

Ha I've just read the same "rumour" on football-rumours.co.uk to put into perspective how credible a source we have here! -
Defo not, I seem to remember a half crocked Claus and Lee Holmes playing the full 90 mins ouch! As for Wanyama, seems to me like a decent signing but get the feeling that our names being put out there to spark a bidding war seeing as other media snippets seem to be suggesting we have a serious wedge to spend this window.

Andy Carroll pulls out of squad.. Lambert in?
Stu Man Do replied to bowers-sfc's topic in The Saints
Think its fairly same to say now that Lambert is never going to get an England shout. Sad reflection on the English national side when the boss decides its not worth calling up an extra player even as cover because presumably to his mind there are only 5 strikers capable of playing for England around. Have to say I hope Roy toddles off soon England are so boring to watch at the moment. I understood the need for solidity when he was dropped in for the Euros but that was a year ago and I'm not sure we have seen any improvements really. Can't believe that Rodwell would get the call after the season he's had yet someone like Cork is never mentioned. -
You'd have to wonder about the point in giving the kid a trial if he's off to the south of France or maybe not ...

Sunderland 1-1 SAINTS // Post-Match Reaction
Stu Man Do replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Reasonable first half followed by a crap 20 mins after HT and allowing them to get on top but only one team looked like they could win it after we equalised. Lallana, for me, should be dropped for Puncheon. Not only does he give us a better goal threat but he defends far better than AL. Lamberts also looking well off the boil how many times did the cameras show him having a mardy moment? All of this fades away against the back drop of although not mathematically safe, us staying up! Could still easily end up around 10th if results go our way next weekend! Get in lads thanks for not giving it up at 1-0 down! -
Get in there Punch my boy!
-
Bugger! Can't see us scoring today really :-(
-
Puncheon back in maybe? Can see Clyne at left back and Cork wasted at right back.
-
Personally thought he made a few decisions that made him look inconsistent and positioning led to him getting in the way of a few passes. Sounds like the red cards were justified but from my viewpoint he should have blown up for a foul on ramirez well before the elbow! Also a bit miffed with his letting Foster time waste so often.
-
How we've gotten to post #15 without mention of the awfulness that is Clattenberg I do not know! Hopefully this guy can't be worse than him or the other elite refs already mentioned on this list ;-)
-
I know the royal oak behind debenhams streams all the games if that helps!
-
I think we have scored something like the 3rd most goals in the league in the opening 10 minutes of a game, Man Utd and someone else I can't remember ahead of us.
-
Is that not because all the Few are away at the Nou Camp watching Pompey play Barcelona? ;-) My bet is their fans will stream away after losing to Messi tonight hehe

Saints charged by FA for failing to control players vs Norwich
Stu Man Do replied to patred44's topic in The Saints
Will Clattenberg be pulled up on the foul by Holt on Shaw in the build up to the peno incident? Unlikely ey but if the push in the box is worth a penalty then why was the push on Shaw not worthy of a free kick because it was outside the box then Mark? Although we shouldn't have crowded around the ref like that Rio Ferdinand recently got away with sarcastically clapping in the refs face so I can't see that our players reacting in an upset manner should be punished either based on that!
