On the face of it you've got a bloke who didn't really have an exceptional scoring record in Scotland (albeit apparently used out on the wing for some of that time) who had a purple patch in L1 and seemed to do OK in the championship until his injury. It's not the most exciting link we could have had although it's probably one of the cheapest options.

Ideal pre season friendly - decent opposition and both players and manager should have learnt a fair bit. My thoughts: Bit harsh on Charles to play at CB - it's obviously not his position and he'll not be playing it unless absolutely necessary Edozie needs to knuckle down a bit - talented kid but needs to work a bit harder. Seemed to lose the ball far too much. Neither Livramento or KWP look comfortable with an inverted fullback role. Bree didn't even look like he fancied it enough to try it. Lavia is phoning it in. Sam AA looks awesome. We'll need to manage him but great prospect and deserves quite a lot of first team minutes. Will Smallbone should start against Sheff Weds. Links up play well, good first touch, great vision and more than capable of providing key passes. Out of everyone so far he's been the standout for me. Defensively still a few question marks but RM should be looking at a formation that means we can cover that. Seems like we'll be playing it out from the back most of the time - don't really mind that but he needs to be pragmatic enough to put less emphasis on that all the time we don't have a defence capable of it.

Think you're being overly pessimistic there - at the most 15M? We should be getting our money back or thereabouts otherwise it's not worth selling January window wasn't great in the context of getting us out of relegation but we ended up with Alcaraz, Sulemana and Bree - all of whom could be important players for us. Tall Paul and Orsic weren't great though.

I saw two clubs were interested, forget who, but that wasn't a very concrete link. You seem quite sure - where did you hear that? I hope we get our money back on him.

TBH if it's to bring a striker in then Tella is already proven at this level so wouldn't really make sense. I know Tella isn't an out and out striker so not quite apples and oranges but you get the drift. Not much point in swapping someone who knows the club and has a proven record at this level for someone who doesn't (and obviously depends who we would bring in but unless it's Piroe then they're unlikely to have the same a similar or better scoring record). I guess keeping Sulemana is understandable but if we lost both of them then I'd be gutted. Would have expected Sulemana to have featured by this stage so I'm half expecting him to go as well.

He's only got two years left on his contract - they'll be desperate to shift him on now while they still can but I reckon 18M + add ons would probably do it. Hopefully he doesn't block any pathway to the first team though.

Agreed, I thought he was good too. Good vision and moves the ball quickly - for a side that's going to be possession based I think he'll do well.

Possibly if we sold KWP but can't see it otherwise. Apparently West Ham want him as well. There does seem to be a glut of decent right backs around.

They did say at the time he signed that there was a fair bit of competition for his signature and obviously offering terms like this gave us a bit of an advantage. Have to remember we did get him for only 5M which is a steal. Would we have felt happier paying anything up to 15M but kept more of the profit? Probably. At the time we were still owned by Gao and money was a bit tighter than it was last year. I'd really hoped he would stay but nevermind.

TBF he did say he was looking forward to working with a squad that had more dynamic forward players (or something like that). It hasn't stopped Tino or Amo-Ameyaw in pre-season making some dribbles so I'm hoping he'll be able to make use of players that can take people on. In particular Sulemana and Tella need to be encouraged to do this. Edit: Just seen you were talking in relation to Bree - so points above not so relevant.

That's entirely disputable. Ukraine recently attacked the Kurch bridge (again), they've taken out many ammo depots, killed Russian generals in targeted strikes and appear to be causing havoc with further disruption to logistics. That's beside the point though - you said, "I'm in little doubt that they can support themselves with more than the west are supplying Ukraine" and you simply don't know how much the west is willing to supply Ukraine. There's no sign of it stopping and if anything the west is supplying even more. Now you can speculate that it might stop but, as I pointed out, that's exactly the same as you moaning about the people speculating on Russia running out of missiles.

Pretty sure the last link I read had mentioned at least two prem clubs were in for him so not unexpected. TBH we're well stocked in that area anyway and if it's possible then I'd rather keep both or one of Tella and Sulemana than bringing Borges in. Also got Amo-Ameyaw who looks like he needs a pathway to first team minutes so I'm not really that bothered.

Seems like Scammacca and Antonio are more likely to leave than Ings. I'd be happy with Ings coming back but wages would be a big issue even if he was prepared to drop down. We'd also need to shift some more players too.
