  1. He wasn't. Struggled for first few minutes after he came on as sub (was quite a surprise for the kid to get called on, and so early). Looked a class act. Has been on the radar for a while now, was quite a star in the Milk Cup last season.
  2. Thank you, was trying to work out who it was.
  3. AskRupert@saintsfc.co.uk
  4. From what I understand Keegan fell out with Lawrie in his second season, because he felt that Lawrie should have strengthened the team defensively, which Lawrie failed to do (in KK's opinion). Which when you think about his managerial career is a little ironic.
  5. Its only the OP that said 40 years, it was clearly 36 years ago. The Club were just recognising it was on this day (yesterday, the 10th) that he signed. "Former Saints manager Lawrie McMenemy speaks to Southampton's official YouTube channel about the day he completed the famous signing of Kevin Keegan from German club Hamburg" Of course what everyone is remembering is when they heard the news (the press conference), which was not the same day as when he signed, which as Lets B pointed out was a Sunday while everyone heard about it on a work/school day.
  6. Signed on the 10th, I realise I put it was announced, didn't mean that.
  7. 10 Feb 1980 he signed. That's 36 years ago today. He didn't actually join until the summer though, first game against Shamrock on 23 July 1980. Bit odd to be making a lot of this today.
  8. Jake Vokins, looks quite decent considering his age. Was quite a star in the Milk Cup last year.
  9. Just a note but he has a career record of better than 50% clean sheets, 148 out of 292 in all competitions. Admittedly a lot were with Celtic, but it would seem it is not simply him being behind a super defence at Saints.
  10. 5 games confirmed http://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/suspensions
  11. Can we rely on the talented Mr Stuart "one-goal" Ripley helping us out though?
  12. Its 10 actually, including the Cup, according to the OS. Good job there is no relegation. Still ManU are even worse.
  13. So, as I said his recovery has taken 3-4 weeks longer than expected when the operation was originally planned in November.
  14. Any team that can't shoot?
  15. No Clasie or Romeu either, which leaves our MF a bit thin. Not to worry though, this is not the final pre-match session which is usually featured by the OS before a game. We don't play until Tuesday.
  16. Yes, he has because he's played more often than not at RB. The same problem as when he first joined, he was awful at RB, and blinkered people stuck with that view for years (still do). He is ****ing awful at RB, no two ways about it.
  17. No he isn't. He's a liability when played at RB. That is all. He is a perfectly adequate backup CB.
  18. You would more likely have heard Spurs singing it at White Hart Lane, unsurprisingly.
  19. Surely about the one thing we don't need to do is replace Yoshida. He is already the more than competent backup for the left sided CB, either in a 4 or a 3. We also have Gardos for the right side, once he is fit again. With Stephens and Turnbull coming through as well, the CB position with Bertrand showing he is well capable of playing on left of a 3 is the one area where additions and not only not needed but highly unlikely. Just so long as we get proper backup for Cedric, so that there is never ever a reason for Ronald to play Yoshida at RB again, we do not need to replace Yoshida. Besides how can you replace the irreplaceable?
  20. Spurs have been singing it since time immemoriam certainly used to sing it when I first started supporting Saints in the mid 60s. Really don't know what the issue is. Its not "our" song, its an American jazz "hymn", which we nicked from the US of A.
  21. I think its embarrassing that we sing an American song, we don't want people to think we play soccerball do we? We should revert to the "Bells of St Marys". If other teams "fans" stole that there would be hell to pay.
  22. Wonder why he has not been able to use Twitter. Was he banned from using it by the Club while he recovered again? Looks like his recovery is taking a bit longer than expected, Ronald originally thought mid to end January he would be back.
  23. Apart from Cedric being out from Dec 22nd to Jan 8th due to groin injury. The latest that I know of. Groin injuries just became less of an issue when Lallana slung his hook didn't they? Pity our "pioneering medics" were not able to help resolve the after effects of Gaston's long term dead leg issue. Still well done to the Medics.
  24. Oh no he didn't http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/35408240
  25. I did say I have never been there. Drove past (nearly) yesterday. I'm sure it is a fine place to live. Probably better than Middlesbro.
