  1. 9 from 25 games, as opposed to our main striker who has the glorious amount of 10 from 27. Given Long has played many times as a winger/attacking MF rather than an out and out striker, actually getting 9 from 25 is a reasonably decent return. Mane by way of comparison has scored 7 from 34. (all data based on PL goals only). Yes if we need to improve we need a striker who can score more than 10 a season, but replacing Long is not the real answer is it? We need to upgrade #19 (and maybe we have with Austin). I think I'm right in saying that Pelle has played in more games when he hasn't scored that Long (no doubt someone will verify the accuracy of that statement). Of course its not all about their goals, there are other contributions that strikers make, but to have a go at Long really is missing the real point.
  2. Nothing against Terry personally, but he was allegedly a nasty piece of work according to those that knew him, disliked by many in the Club. Doesn't take away from him being a great one-club man and a Saints hero. Same with Lawrie, his huge ego is what made him what he was. Is having a huge ego really that big a deal, for a football manager, after all some of the greatest are also guilty of the same, Mourinho, Fergie, Cloughy to name but three. If Lawrie was not liked by some in the Media, then hard luck, seems to be a plus point for him in my opinion. Well done Lawrie for ****ing off Media jerks , couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of ****s.
  3. Why would they be docked points when the failed drugs test was after the Europa League match?
  4. No need to send, its written clearly at the top of the Forum page. "100% Saints discussion. Please keep it on-topic and civil. Abusive behaviour is not welcomed." Pity so many do not follow the guidance and no-one does anything about it.
  5. Lawro predicts 2-0 to us (fair enough) but thinks we are on course to follow last season's eighth-place finish with something very similar. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36091973
  6. Everton are not top six. Vardy is all of the things you highlight, Leicester are "top one". You seem to have a vivid imagination when it comes to some of your observations about "foreign" players, if you seriously think Mane gets more vitriol than JWP or Steven Davis.
  7. Couldn't decide between Ramirez and Lee, so decided to vote for Van Dijk instead. Really hard to see any genuine alternative.
  8. Clearly must have been selected by Cortese, no-one else is capable of making such mistakes. Part of his legacy no doubt.
  9. Top 4 guaranteed, technically not CL (even if you ignore that 4th place does not qualify for CL, only CL Qualifiers), but it would take Man City to win the CL and Liverpool to win the EL - ain't gonna happen is it. Also PL possible champions now down to 4 teams.
  10. He was OK when assisted by Glynn Snodin, but poor before and after. Not really a major criticism, some managers have to have good backup staff to do well. Burley needed Snodin, just like Hoddle needed Gorman.
  11. To make it simple for you, Din, "To some extent" means that in some respects, not all, not entirely. If you don't think the big lumps who pose as centre back footballers in the Championship and below do not knock seven bells out of players like Ramirez (lightweights) then fine, that's your opinion (possibly misguided according to my opinion and that of many others). But why do you have to continue to be so ****ing rude when people have a different opinion than you. Having a discussion where people have different views than you, is what Forums are about, but you are clearly unable to deal with that concept, and so just make yourself look a complete tit when you post. Clearly you also don't understand "musing", because if you did you would realise that it was posted as a thought. that's what musing is, thinking about possibilities. It was a possibility, but thankfully it did not come to fruition, as with many other "musings". You do seem to have a real problem distinguishing between suppositions, thought, musings, whatever you like to call them, and facts. But due to your lack of understanding you keep trotting out old quotes because you think its big to belittle other people, whilst not realising that by doing so you demonstrate time and again that you are a complete and utter *** Lets hope that we can return to some sort of discussion now, but I doubt it, maybe you will dig out another old post and quote out of context again, just to help if you want you could always go back and dig one out about Tadanari Lee.
  12. Oh dear, thought it was only Big Din Fry that had comprehension issues.
  13. Davis out. Will be a major miss, we really don't often perform well when he is missing.
  14. Out for 2-3 weeks, might be available next week. Not a broken ankle in that case. Big miss.
  15. Think the issue is that he just didn't fit into their systems, and can't be or won't be moulded to do so. With Poch he did not not have the fitness to play the pressing game effectively, with Ronald not so sure what the issue is because he is clearly more talented than Tadic and definitely works harder and tracks back more than him (though that is not saying much). His fitness had definitely held him back to an extent in the past though, he was still suffering from the dead leg he picked up 2 years ago at the start of the season and there was a report that he had fallen out with the Saints medics who he felt had not helped him fully recover from that. Seems to have been resolved now though as he is clearly working hard and being very effective at Boro, where to some extent it is tougher playing in the rough and tumble of the Championship.
  16. You play with Tadic on Friday nights? Explains a lot I suppose.
  17. At least three of those infringements would still be open to interpretation. Was he in an offside position when the ball was kicked or not, did the ball hit his hand/arm or not, did he actually touch the ball or not. Shirt pulling is probably the least open to interpretation but is also probably the least given foul out of that lot.
  18. And another
  19. Cracking save bu Fraser from Fonte as well. Jose knows where the goal is.
  20. No way.
  21. On sale today, have until 15th May to renew.
  22. Actually he hasn't. Wijnaldum 9, Saints Midfielders 13 (Tadic 7, Davis 2, W-P 2, Romeu 2). There is some discrepancy between sites on how many Tadic has scored.
  23. but the fact that THREE managers have failed to use him says something more. THREE? Please elaborate. 44 league appearances in his first 2 seasons says otherwise, and hides the fact that he missed a loot of games through injury (dead leg and ankle ligament), suspensions (3 matches for elbowing Shane Long), after effects of Uruguayan jaunts and personal issues (I seem to recall the death of a close family member, was it his Mother?). Maybe you mean Steve Bruce (though even he played him 22 times). Not making excuses for the guy, he's not our problem any more in a couple of months, but some perspective is needed. Its interesting that a respected coach, former assistant to The Special One seems to be getting something out of him, albeit in the Championship. He's 25, still think one day he will make it, but probably not in the PL, his game is better suited to La Liga or Serie A where there is not the intensity of the blood and thunder of the PL.
  24. I'm sure Long would have played, but he was injured. He was ideal for the Leicester game. Long and Mane would have caused them problems as long as we didn't keep pumping **** poor floated crossed into the area of course. Huth and Morgan must have thought it was their birthdays and Christmas combined yesterday with those tactics combined with the Pelle statue.
  25. Rubbish. Our home support is poor and our away support is usually good. Leicester home support is very good and they create an atmosphere as noted by players and pundits. It has nothing to do with it being a lack of young kids, its about the way our ground is organised, and because there are too many people who think it is embarrassing to do things like use clappers as Leicester do, which whether you like them or not actually makes an atmosphere, just like the old football rattles did in the old days. Look at the crowd, its not just young kids using the clappers, its people of all ages and in all parts of the ground. Instead of mocking a Club that actually does things right, people should learn lessons from them, and not be "embarrassed" by such things as clappers, foam hands and so on. But the main thing is at St Mary's the ground needs to be re-organised so that there is a home end, until that happens our home support will continue to be poor.
